It's really amazing how big a difference those sprung floors make. The intensity of the moves olympic gymnasts do today are just way more intense. I'm not downing or hating, I'm just saying lol, don't take it the wrong way.
There is a big difference between a step on landing and a very low double tuck with a huge stumble forward. She almost touched the floor with her hand. No way that 2 judges (out of 4) could give her a 10. As I said before, 9.90 to all the finalists would be a fair judging. Everything else is just a personal preference.
Comaneci did a nice double back in her first pass (cut off from the video).
Because Nelli stumbled at the end of the second pass.. Nelli was actually lucky to tie for the gold. Probably a farewell gift by judges for her last performance before retiring.
@akimbohr At the same time, you need to compare their tumbling and artistry.
Comaneci did a 1.5 twist to a full twisting back handspring and a double twist as her only passes. Her dance was uninspired and boring.
Kim did a double pike, a double twist and a double tuck. She was the first to do two double backs in competition. She also had better artistry. She drew the crowd into her routine and had more charisma than Comaneci. Considering that steps weren't deducted as much back then...
@macassar88 (Comaneci actually had a step on her landing in 1976 on one of the routines that got her a perfect 10) Kim should have beaten Comaneci who was actually the one who benefitted most from unfair scoring.
There were better dancers than Nadia. Yelena Mukhina for example and Nelli Kim, Maria Filatova and Nathalia Shaposnikova. She's a great gymnast but her dance wasn't so good.
I think this routine was too fast paced. They should have capitalized on her long lines and made it more graceful. All that jumping around is for smaller gymnasts.
@tristalista totally agree- I remember reading (or watching on a documentary, maybe) where Nadia tried to convince the Karolyi's/Pozar that she wanted more mature choreography and less 'little kid' movements, but they weren't too willing to change it up for her. A shame- she is way more mature in 1980....reminds me of Moceanu's '97 floor- way too young and cutesy (granted, Domi WAS pretty young). I remember at Worlds that year when Bart Connor was like, "yeah, she needs a new routine...."
her weight is sickening....if a "normal" person(a person who does not do gymnastics)goes to the doctor with this weight, the doctor immediately tells her to gain weight.Isn't it dangerous for her to carry her few kilos?!Here she was 18 years old.I wonder if she had her period or not...many people with no body fat have no periods.Which is not healthy at all.I call her anorexic here.It is not normal even for gymnasts.

Great video, but it pisses me off as well. Nadia was ROBBED by the Russians for the 1980 Olympic all-around gold medal. It was a f***king travesty.

she looks so different here. i liked her with her cute ponytail :)

She seems less at ease than in 1976. She was more developed and also less graceful. Still a lot of talent though.

It seems to be missing because the owners of the dvd it came from (or video) probably received the cut-off version of Nadia's fx.

I have added Nadia's complete version of her 1980 FX to my favorites-thanks to user morogawa if you want to check it out. :)
