i had a twin turbo 5.0ltr V8 sd1 in holland running 1200bhp with racing exhaust and tons of other race spec parts on it topped it out at over 240mph on the A4 going to wards schipol airport
2.6 wasnt a bad engine its just they de tuned as not to upset the 3.5 as the y found the 2.6 was actually more capable .. qoute from a rover sd1 book i have lol me couldnt care less love em what ever drive train it has .. and i have seen a twin turbo model now that was special !!
Sorry (don't want to fall out!) but the machine gives 'at the wheels' accurate figure. Flywheel bhp is guesswork. My 3954 injected TVR motor is healthy and gives 195 at the wheels, but of course weighs very little. TVR claims 275 flywheel for it, but that is bull.

these cars were slow then and even slower now with the square stearing wheel my old man had loads and they were slow , the engine was class the car is about two tonn in weight
I think some of you guys need to learn the diff between flywheel and 'at the wheels' bhp.Even a decent 5 litre TVR Griffith won't put out much more than 225 at the wheels. Add 15-20% to get flywheel guestimate. I love RV8s, but let's keep it real.
My dream was to tvr one of these up! I bought a crash damaged 1990_TVR 400 se for £2400 with the aim of getting a local garage to do the transplant. I then stupidly spent anothger £950 on a 1986 sd1 VdP. To cut a long story short - it didn't work & I ended up spending about another £4.500 on the VVR. It was worth it in the end though & I got the old wedge up to scratch! I STILL WANT A SUPA QUICK SD1 THOUGH!
What !! have you ever seen a rolling road !! This was filmed at Rovercraft in Maidstone and they were one of the top tuners of the Rover V8 engine in the UK before closing.
This rolling road is now installed in Tonbridge (forgot the company name sorry) but its now owned by the tuner in my Starion pt2 video (the one who states the power figures at the end)who set up this company after leaving Rovercraft (sorry I forgot your name).

The straight six engines were actually quite poor !!
I have never heard anyone say the 2.6 is more capable than the 3.5 v8 engine and I have been tuning V8's for over 20 years.

when the hell was a Vitesse ever slow? in 1985 Autocar recorded a Vitesse at 7.6s 0-60...quick today.
they said "it takes a very fast car indeed to better the Vitesse's 0-30, 60 and 100mph"
I have the original road test right by me
the 2600s and so on were very slow...but the Vitesse was very quick and the 3500 quite quick also

how much power did it make. mine made 231bhp at the wheels on its last visit to rovercraft.

it was not that much unfortunatly - i think it was around 200bhp at the wheels

What r they supposed to be ? bhp wise?
Were the late models twin plenum?
tpvalley 2 years ago
I think it they were the same as the normal ones at 190bhp but adding the exhaust makes a nice difference.
You could not 'order' a TP model. It was just pot luck that you got one or not unless you knew someone at the dealers.

Standard they were 170@wheels, 210 @fly supposedly. Stock SPs were 157@wheels, 190@fly.
