  • Ricky was and probably still is misunderstood, but man could he play. Miss him in burnt orange. Hook em Ricky!

  • such a humble & nice guy always liked ricky man.. Even when he was smoking alot & got into a deep thought process of learning & understanding himself i mean we sit back & judge but every1 has a past.

  • Earl Cambell had one thing ricky didnt, he could absolutely punish people for trying to tackle him. Cambell was a strong mf'er

  • Damn, you can see the toll Earl's style of running has cost him later in life. Ricky blew it,- Campbell was a BEAST though.

  • @2SANFRANCISCO WTF does "Ricky blew it" mean?

  • @lizsharon06 ''Ricky blew '' ( much like marijuana ), an opportunity to be an all time great. Thats ''WTF'' it means.

  • @2SANFRANCISCO He IS an all time great. You think because he missed a couple of yrs means he's not good enough? Somehow it diminished his skill and ability? His performance while on the field speaks for itself. People like you dont know jack shit about football. All you know is hype

  • @Potandthekettle Less than 10k career rushing yards, only 5 seasons 1k+ yards, barely 4yd/rush average, only rushed for 10+ TD's ''twice'', less than 3k career yards receiving, only ''8'' receiving TD's, - with ''50'' fumbles,- 30 of them lost.....oh, and Suspended for a season. Get the fuck outta here with your '' dont know jack shit about football ''. Williams blew his potential All time great career..... go light up another joint with Ricky and enjoy all your ''hype''.

  • @2SANFRANCISCO He has 9,565 yds, 72 tds, 4.1 avg in ONLY 9 YRS, 4 of which were SHARED with Ronnie Brown. You PURPOSEFULLY ignored that and that makes you a HATER. He didnt blow anything lol He's proven through his skill and talent that he's one of the all time great backs. Anyone denying that is just an asshole. Straight up

  • @Potandthekettle As you have PURPOSEFULLY ignored his slightly above mediocre rush stats, and PATHETIC receiving stats- and the fact an NFL RB's career at a high level is only 8 years on average,- and thats WITHOUT taking time off in between,- AND every RB shares the backfield to some degree. Had the skill set and talent to be a HOF RB, but he blew it all lol. Quit being a HATER. Anyone trying to press there lame ass opinions on others is an asshole. Straight up.

  • @2SANFRANCISCO mediocre?? 4.2 is NOT mediocre. 4.0 is NOT mediocre either. Pathetic receiving stats?? He's ABOVE AVERAGE for a RB. Nothing you're saying here or have said is in favor of your argument. In fact, all youre doing is being a hateful douche. You've made it quite clear WHY you dont think he should be considered at its in the last sentence of your second post. Fucking ridiculous how people like you can attempt diminish what he's done. And everyone knows WHY

  • @Potandthekettle Your the definition of '' fucking ridiculous''. Everything I've said supports it, and the stats don't lie douchebag. In your own little shit talking world, Ricky is an all time great...well, that'll be your little secret, and personal opinion. Fucking ridiculous how people like you have nothing better to do but talk shit on you tube, and press their opinions on others. We both know NOONE EVER brings him up in the all time great convos,- and everyone knows WHY.

  • @2SANFRANCISCO You're ONLY looking at his stats and yet that doesnt even support your argument, even after selectively pointing them out(strawman argument.) You on top of it call something "medicore" thats not even mediocre and you ignore the rest. His averages are on par if not better than current hall of famers and he was the best RB in the league before he was run into the ground by Wannstedt, the NFL, and a douchebag Steeler player and yet he STILL made a comeback despite the obstacles

  • @2SANFRANCISCO And people like you are the reason why he gets so much negative press. You know damn well WHY. It has nothing to do with his actual talent(among the greatest ever) or EVEN his stats. It has EVERYTHING to do with him smoking weed. Thats something you, nor most assholes will ever admit. And I'M pressing my opinions on others? WTF ARE YOU DOING?? This is a simple argument, and you failed miserably by your hate being exposed

  • @Potandthekettle You, like Williams,- are a second rate EPIC FAILURE. I simply returned your favor of '' opinion pressing''....and you can't handle it, just like Ricky couldn't handle the NFL, nor life. LMFAO! Go light up another joint with your ''idol''. He blew it, and you followed suit in this ''convo''... exposing yourself as the asshole you are. Check all the ''true'' greats stats,- they ALL exceed Williams,- even L.T. & freaking AHMAN GREEN whoop his ass! LOL! Hilarious!... HATER

  • @2SANFRANCISCO S.A.D. could cripple anyone in life, specially when you have cameras and millions of people watching you. You're a piece of shit for judging him or anyone with that condition. Forget this argument, you FAIL at being a decent human being

  • @2SANFRANCISCO And whats with the "true" greats stats?? Are you saying there are hall of famers who dont deserve recognition? And I pointed out that not only his total stats are on par with the greats, his AVERAGES are on par as well. Ahman Green LMAO You're clearly an idiot

  • @Potandthekettle Dude, this guy could possibly be the most skilled running back of the last decade. Don't forget, his stats take a fall because he spend like 3 or 4 years away from the NFL, in the CFL, or something like that. Ahman Green played through his early years, to his prime, to his days where he could barely walk. If you call Williams second-rate, you're RETARDED. Setting the NCAA rushing record, and rushing for 1800 yards at Miami. How's that for stats?

  • @riseagainstmeatloaf You responded to the wrong person

  • @2SANFRANCISCO Emmit Smith averaged 4.2 a carry

  • NO COKE! PEPSI

  • Kind of a funny lead-in to this piece featuring two Texas greats -- showing the score of a 45-0 shellacking of UCLA over the Longhorns! I had to look twice to make sure I'd read it right!

  • God...UCLA RAPING Texas U. Football has changed so much in 14 years haha.

  • UCLA was bustin dey azz

  • He must have smoked some damn GOOD WEED....because he got less and less motivated. Such wasted talent. He could have been in the top 5 rushers of all time.

  • @UniverseCoach dont blame it all on the dope, mainly his lack of motivation led to more smoking... pot doesnt make you lazy he did it himself

  • @88lostprophets88 Lack of motivation? You have either never seen him play or youre just ignorant.

  • @UniverseCoach He got less motivated after dumbass wandstedt kept rushing him into brick walls in 03. He rushed him more in that 2 yr time span than any other back. I dont know how in the world you can question ricky's motivation when he is one of the hardest working players out there. And really, he IS one of the top 5 rushers of all time. His talent and the stats he'll end up with back it up. The only problem I saw with ricky's situation was the NFL's stupid policy that makes no sense

  • damn, texas down 45-0 in early 3rd quarter?

  • very nice, sweet person. i dont understand why these fukers on espn and in the media in general give him a hard time. people in austin know how he is a good person.

  • Earl Campbell ran faster when going through people than when trying to run away from them!

Also, I don't get the Ricky hate. That guy isn't out shooting people, beating his wife or sending texts of his dick to people. He's just wired a bit differently than most players, but not in a way that makes him a bad guy.

  • I knew Ricky Williams was a future low-grade NFL player when he said in an interview he was gonna come back to Texas his senior year so he could continue to party. If money does not motivate you by the time you are 21, you are not worth much. It takes a ship-load of motivation to train and play at the upper lever in the NFL. In addition, everyone knew Ricky smoked a ton of weed. Pot destroys motivation... most people know that.

  • @label1877 He had social anxiety and didn't know it. I smoked pot too because I had social anxiety and I had nvr heard of the disease I just thought something was wrong wit me so the only way I could calm myself or not commit suicide was smoke pot and i think he did the same for that reason too.pot relaxes u not kill ur motivation. pot is equivalent to smoking and alcohol.

  • @BedazzledCupcakes But which came first... Social Anxiety... or the pot ? Do you think that maybe...the pot caused the anxiety problem? Hey, I think pot should be legal but I have never seen a pot user care about much of anything other than getting high again.

  • @label1877 You do make a good point although I'm not sure if pot can really cause Social Anxiety. I really don't know.

  • @BedazzledCupcakes If you dont know, then how do you know this person made a good point? WOW, you people amaze me

  • @label1877 OMG, you actually think pot can cause social anxiety disorder? REALLY? LOL If you bothered to research this at all, he had SAD since he was a teen and had a traumatic childhood with a perverted father who used to make him and his sis take pics of him jackin it. So before you criticize or come up with bullshit to somehow bash him or his weed smoking, at least dont be ignorant about it.

  • @Potandthekettle OMG, you mean there are folks still confused about the long term affects pot has on someone? As far as researching pot... I know first-hand. I am 48, my Dad taught me to grow weed at 14. In '77 I alone grew 6 pounds of mid-grade. I had 2 distributors. I was the richest 9th grader in my school. Never come close to getting caught... too smart. I alone noticed that when fellow A students started toking... they become C students... they did not care. Who's ignorant 'bout weed?

  • @label1877 WTF are you blabbering on about? Did you even read my posts? You dont seem like a stoner, youre acting like a crack head! My posts had nothing to do with long term effects of weed and i dont care about your experience with it. Regardless, your posts are ignorant. And apparently, youre ignoring mine.

  • @Potandthekettle hahaha really

  • @label1877 Then how do you explain 1850 + yds and a pro bowl in which he looked like the only player trying? You obviously dont know jack shit about his play, or his work ethic. He has been known by many players in the league to be one of the hardest working athletes in the NFL. "low-grade"??? He's got close to 10,000 yds about 70 tds and a 4.1 rushing average and 7 tds a year. Those numbers rival hall of fame players. You are VERY ignorant

  • @label1877 i guess he smoked pot to give everyone else a chance to catch him

  • a time when the world didn't have justin bieber

  • @Exotic47

Justin Bieber was born in '94. I assume he looks and sings about the same as he did in 1997, though.

  • texas got killed back then and no one said any thing but now UCLA just barley beat them and evry1s spazing out

  • How good of a season Ricky Williams had last year(2009) just proves how good he actually is. Longest hiatus ever in NFL history(6 years) a player has had between 1,000 yard rushing season (and he was #2 most the season). The guy is possibly the most physically gifted of any runningback of all time. Mentally he drifted but he was born a machine. So natural, he could have easily eclipse all the rushing records.Hes doing very well these days for the time he missed, hes close to the 10,000yd club.

  • DAMN.....45-0, LMFAO

  • Ricky might have did drugs but, it didnt change how he played he earned all he acomplished. Just leave him alone

  • Ricky seems like a good guy. Not cocky at all, very humble.

  • Payton, Sanders, Cambell...great people off the field. the best on it...coinsidence??

  • seriously weed? come on thats not even a damn drug. its not a big deal, and he shouldnt have got suspended for it.

  • "What Earl didn't say is he ran over 4.6 PEOPLE every time he carried the football!" -- right on, tru dat!

  • Ricky just didn't have the heart! He could have been a great one.

  • man who would think earl campbell only ran a 4.7? hell he was one of the greatest ever. I played high school with guys who ran 4.4 all the time a one ran a 4.3.

while i dont condone smoking dope ricky williams did suffer from anxiety and supposedly weed is one of the best anti-anxiety drugs around

  • @utubecenseorstruth im sure he ran a faster time. Back then they didnt have direct time. Didnt have laser time.

  • I respect this guy with everything... he used to have sad disorder which I have and I know how much of a pain it is... so stay up ricky do ya thang brah

  • FOR THE YEARS, PLAYS, MEMORIES AND THE SACRIFICE!!! i play semi-pro football and i swear upon my honor that i will dedicate every rushing attempt to your legacy!!

  • Everybody is talking about ricky but did any of you notice the other man!???.. if you are watching it you know its earl campbell, and do you see his limp... its kind of sad cause now hes confined to a wheelchair. All those years of power running in the NFL really took its toll on his body and now some describe him as simply "A Hurting Man". When you look at some of his old footage/highlights it would seem that he has a sort of invinceability but he is now paying the price.

  • Comment removed

  • how the hell was texas losing to ucla this bad?ricky williams is a beast in the wildcat formation.

  • Mack Brown wasn't there yet...Texas wasn't that good then.

  • the wildcat didn't exist in '97 you moron.

  • no hating on ricky.... but this is kind of like when muhammad ali and sugar ray leonard were conversing on that talk show... I couldnt help but think how much better ali was than leonard. same here. ricky is good, but Earl was untouchable

  • Amen. There was no greater power back than Mr. Campbell.

  • Larry Csonka

  • Jim Brown was pretty good too... Only back to average 100 yards every game of his career

  • no one will ever do that again. especially if they lengthen the season.

i hope they don't cause it will mess up all the season and career records even more

  • untouchable he got kacked up all the time he just never went down he bounced off and ran for a TD Totally agree

  • he was a bad ass back then i miss the old ricky

  • Thats why he has the tinted visor, its so no-one that he dosn't know can make eye contact with him

  • Rickys misunderstood by many people the good thing is...he don't give a shit...he's a great guy screw all the haters...just makes him stronger

  • Ricky is such a shy and nice guy.

He isnt an asshole, just different.

  • He has social anxiety its way more than just being shy.

  • social anxiety can ruin a life if untreated just like chronic depression. Thank God Ricky got treatment for it...all the best to him.

  • I know i have SA

  • You stole that from Wiki

  • not anymore, it shows how talented Ricky Williams is. He was one of the best college runningbacks of alltime. Came into the NFl and had numerous 1,000 yard seasons. He left came back a couple of times and now is able to regain his old form. If you watch him these days with Miami, hes running almost just as hard as he used too, and they impact hes having with Ronnie Brown together if funominal. He has over 8,000 career rushing yards thats with missing a good 3-4 seasons. Hes not a pothead.

  • anyone that walks away from a job because they would rather smoke pot is a pot head.

  • @Stevenio hes not SHY AT ALL. your a fucking dumbshit. hes not shy at all you dumbass!!!!!!!!!!! ricky is a dumbass too for sounding like a fucking girl. he aint shy, hes really outgoing you moron

  • @SuperBlaze46 Grow up

  • @Potandthekettle you grow up,. your the one using non existent improper terms.

  • @SuperBlaze46 WTF are you talking about, all I told you was "grow up" based on your childish post. I never even talked to you before that.

  • check out the new miami dolphin them song

  • i like ricky though. he is such a flake, but he seems intelligent. he just kinda marches to his own drummer. he doesn't hurt anyone.

  • It's hard not to like Ricky Williams.

  • Sticky Eicky Ricky

  • i remember Earl Campbell running over guys like a mack truck. real horsepower

  • Ricky was a great runner early in his career, unfortunately, he had social anxiety disorder..and often took marijuana at times. Unfortunate downfall..he did look like the next Earl Campbell..

  • Right back at ya, roremster. The comment was fine.

    RICKY IS BACK THIS YEAR

  • earl campbell is awsome

  • 45-0 OUCH!

  • That was an infamous game in UT history that is affectionately known (by those of us who hate them) as "Rout 66" because UCLA smoked them by a final score of 66-3. In Austin.

  • naw i say bo jackson and ricky williams or maybe marion the barbarian can do it

  • 45-0 lol

  • Try 66-3. The infamous "Rout 66" game that was the dark night of the bonghorns. They got it together after that, but they were really soft in '97.

  • ricky can still help the dolphins a little

  • Great to see two great Longhorn legends together. Sad to see Earl limping so badly, there are only a few RB's who could take as much punishment as Earl. I think Marcus Allen and Ottis Anderson could be in The Tyler Rose level for toughness, what say you football fans ???

  • ottis anderson! i havent herd about him in a while. the U!

  • well devin maybe be in my top five return men but there are a lot that are great in that category too and i dont know a lot about tht

but i gotta admit hes good

  • earl cambell rocks

  • my top five are

    1.Jim Brown

    2.The Sweetness

    3.Barry Sanders

    4.Earl Campbell

5.Emmitt Smith or Gale Sayers kind of a tie

jim brown is first because well he was a gift from football gods

6,2 235-240 lbs, massive body that could run past slower d-linemen or truck over linebackers or dbs hes just my idol i gotta admit

P.S. I'm a fan of The "U" but hell devin hester didnt do shit and besides he aint a fucking running back so shut the fuck up

  • Is Devin Hester #1 in your top 5 return men??

  • brandon jacobs is 6'4 and a half and 264 pounds and is speedy as crap for his size. what about him? =]

  • jim brown is my number one too u got good taste in yo running backs

  • I'm not a Cowboy fan but I'm surprised you don't have Tony Dorsett in the top 5.

  • Ricky williams is dumb, he fucked up his career

  • fuck you, people like u are fucking retarded, let me tell you somthing, is it fair that shawn merriman took steroids and made the pro bowl?.. no but when ricky smokes cronic(not performance enhanceing btw ;) ) everyone bashes him for no reason? fuck that... all he did was smoke some flippen weed who gives a shit

  • true.

  • Fact is, NFL owners pay for a lot more than just running the football, they pay you to be the face of a billion dollar business, which sells to families. Its about the fact that they expect you to show character, and follow the rules, set a good example. BUSINESS not game anymore.

  • Earl Campbell was the best.

  • 1. Emmitt Smith

    2. Walter Payton

    3. Marcus Allen

    4. Thurman Thomas

    5. Marshall Faulk

  • And where exactly is Jim Brown on your top five list? Thurman Thomas? Come now.

  • RICKY IS BACK! HE'S BACK!

  • He helped improve the dolphins to 1-14 yay...

  • if you knew anything youd know he got injured the first game he played, he had like three carries, so stfu

  • I think the most interesting thing about this clip is the score. 45-0 at Texas with 10 minutes left in the 3rd? That's unbelievable.

  • 45-0 WHAT!?!?!?!?

  • First of all, Earl Campbell was NOT 255-260 pounds.... more like 230...... Ricky Williams is a dumbass for gettin caught with pot......and Earl Campbell owned all in his day....just goes to show that it doesn't matter if you have the speed of a TE, as long as you truck people like one....

  • earl and ricky..no school can top that

  • best powerback ever...earl campbell

    best scatback ever....barry sanders

    best runningback ever.walter payton

..o yea and the 40 is so over hyped and over blown that it is actually funny..i kno football is bout 10ths and 100ths of seconds..but its sad watching a great runningback get skipped over in the draft because of a 4.6...and then see a "sleeper" get picked in the first round because he pulled a 4.2 out of his ass then turn out to be a bust

  • i love sweetness but no way was he better than jim brown or gayle sayers

  • Personally, I think it goes:

    1. Sanders

    2. Brown

    3. Payton

    4. Dickerson

    5. Campbell

  • umm sayers records have all been blasted by courtesy of "THE U"'s Devin Hester!

  • Hester can suck a nut

  • no........

  • Wait. I think Bo Jackson Should get honorable mention here. Although his career was cut short, He was as dominant as any on this list.

  • it's not enough just comparing numbers.

  • earl could run a 4.7 that is very fast..ricky could run a 4.4 (off the charts speed) but earl was way stronger then ricky and he wasnt scared 2 hit u head on so imagine a man who could run a 4.7 bench over 350 hitting u head on..thats something i would never wana do

  • in terms of college and professional football, 4.7 isnt "very fast".. for certain positions (runningback included), a 4.7 would be considered mediocre speed.. a 4.4 is considered fast, but still not elite speed.. however what they're saying is true.. in certain situations, its possible to run much faster than normal, and earl campbell didnt need breakaway speed to gain big yards..

  • 4.7 is like fast for like a TE and LB a running back avg. should be like 4.4-4.5

  • ur stupid. back then that was fast as hell and also for a guy that weighed 255-260. thats fuckin amazin

  • your stupid. the guy said that 4.4 forties are "off the charts speed". he didnt say then or now. open your dumb eyes are read before you say anything. 4.4 40s are quick for RB's. 4.7 is not by any means very fast. even then there were guys who were fast. Gale Sayers had track speed and if he ran a 40 he would have run appx a 4.3 or maybe lower.

  • alright dude yea the 40 is overrated but if u really think of how big of a difference of 4.7 n 4.4 its almost nonexistant, thats y football is more about angles and y people who run bad 40's for instance anquan blodin n jerry rice slipped in drafts, so if u run a straight line yea runin a 4.7 is much different than 4.4 but how often do u run in a straight line untouched? that is the difference of game speed n timed speed

  • wow cambell didn't was 255-260 more like 225-230

  • this was truly a special moment right here. it was even before ricky won the heisman just like earl. earl campbell is by far the greatest powerback in the history of the game. Its too bad his body is now paying the price of his hard running style. by the way, he is not that old.

  • Now that Earl can't walk anyone more because his body has finally broken down because of the NFL.

  • Actually its a congenital spinal defect.

  • you guys are kidding rite?? you cant even compare this guy to Barry Sanders, lol, morons.

  • You're right, because both Earl and Barry played during the same time period.

    Moron

However I do agree that Sanders was the best running back, but he wasn't that much greater than Earl

  • he was alot better than Earl, ALOT

  • A lot?

    Give me a break....

  • Stupid loser, earl would CRUSH barry.

  • Really you cant compare them.

Its like comparing Mike Turner with DeAngelo williams

to totally different type of backs

  • i totally agree... you just cant compare and power back to a speed back :)

  • fuck yea earl the crusha fuck up anyone in his path quit smokin ricky 2 years was enough quit playin pussies in canada

  • If I was going to get one retro-NFL jersey (I can't justify spending that kind of $ on it), it would be a #34 Houston Oilers jersey. 'Nuff said.

  • In my opinion, Earl campbell was the greatest there ever was, I don't think there will be another like him for a long time. Ricky through away a lot of his career and won't ever be close to Earl.

  • hell yeah...u used to just truck muthafuckers ova..

  • You can tell Earl paid the price over the years. Look at how hard he was limping

  • Yeah, he's in a wheelchair now. But I don't think that's from the price of being a power running back like he was (if that's what you were referring to) but just old age.

  • it is because of the wear of his NFL career. he was just on HBO Real Sports talking about how the doctors have confirmed that was what it was from.

  • Its definitely from all the hard running he did and wear and tear the NFL put on his body, but also what a lot of people don't realize is that he has a back disorder that greatly hinders his movement and makes him what he is today. Doctors have said that if the disorder would have been found when Earl was in Jr. High then they would have told him to never play football. And about the old age, Earl really isn't THAT old. If he was 22 in '77 then he would be 52 right now.

  • Yeah except Campbell had a successfull NFL career, Ricky turned into a pothead piece of shit. And look at that score damn, Texas sucked dick that year

  • Cut the guy some slack. It isn't as easy to be a pro football player as people think and the guy would like to smoke some pot, who cares what he does?

  • Oh so true

  • yes I know this scrore looked bad but this was a really good team. They won the big 12 by beating nebraska in the big 12 championship game. and that was when nebraska was NEBRASKA!! it was when they had tom osborn not that idiot callahan.they suck now.
