  • even though any dream will do finished... i don't know- about 6 years ago, i'm still raving about it! OH DEAR. the series with the men were the most genuine, the most talent-centred, the most heart-felt, the best.

  • this is my first 'disliked' video in Youtube to date.

  • I like this song!

I HOPE YOU LIKE MY VERSION!

    Thanks!!

    x

  • @JavierFontana Very nice version. Nice to see a male singing it slowly instead of speeding it up as so often happens.

  • @rcolemanuk Thank you!

  • what i didnt get though was lewis was always in the bottom two so didnt andrew notice he must of been crap

  • Les Miserables is not pop. I'm a huge Les Miserables fan (I'm going to see it at the o2 in October- anyone else gonna be there for the afternoon performance?) and this has ruined one of my favourite Les Miserables songs.

  • i dont like this performance.... was horrible!

    the best ever.... susan boyle

  • Awful. Both of them.

  • Wow, nice!

  • lol amateurs

  • Ben is out of time a lot of the time sooo........ I vote lewis.

  • sorry but does it matter if lewis was an understudy?

ive seen ben in hairspray and lewis in joseph when lee mead was ill, and theyre were both as amazing as eachother, its just a shame that bens voice didnt sound as good as lewis' in THIS particular song.

  • Both fail

  • definately blue has the more operatic voice they are two different types of voices..

  • Up until "I had a dream my life would be" I supported the one in blue but when they both sung for that section i switched over to the orange.

  • well it's not bad for pop music, but they voice are hasn't power!!!! Sorry, but they are cute.

  • POP music??? Excuse me????

  • @ZannaRay I mean, that for this song need not so "pop" voice, here need opera or more pawerful, do you understand me?)

  • the blond boy is the best. this song makes NO sense when a guy sings it. llyod webber wishes he could write like this.

  • Can men not have feelings too?

  • @whatever3009 - What a sad, sorry life you lead. But then what made you WATCH the clip in the first place? I'm straight, always will be. But I have feelings too. Maybe you haven't had many life events in which allow you to relate to the songs. I don't know. But everyone's allowed an opinion thanks for yours.

  • @whatever3009 That's insulting. A straight man can have all the emotions, compassion, and love in the world and you think gay guys are the only ones that feelings? Will you judge everyone by the darkest end of the scope? Please widen your views.

  • @whatever3009 you, mate, are one very sick individual, I take pity on you and hope to fuck you never have any kids to carry on your misogyny, although I think its more probable that you are hung like a hamster and secretly pray for a jolly rogering!!!

  • the one in blue definitely has a stronger voice. terrible arrangement of this song though..

  • Generally Ben (in orange) was the better singer. Lewis was not as good. That's why Ben went on to have a lead role in a West End musical and Lewis was an understudy.

  • YOU WISH THIS SONG WAS YOURS LLOYD WEBBER! MAWHAHAHA!

Sorry, I had to do that...

Um, interesting...since this song is about a single mother...but still its a nice take (they changed it it "she" instead of "he")

    But whatev...

Its ceritanly is a hard song ot act to for guys...so it is impressive for them

  • I think Lewis would make a cute Raoul in PotO.

  • Ben and Lewis were among the weaker contestants but because the judges thought they looked the past, ALW saved them a couple of times, including over far better contestants.

Ben is doing quite well for himself though.

Lewis (one of the producer's clear favourites) stood in briefly for the winner, Lee Mead, while he was on holiday but wasn't very well-received (surprise!) and recently auditioned on GMTV for Troy in the West End production of HSM but didn't get the public vote there either.

  • What a couple of castrati. Give them some testosterone. Then, those outfits....ALW expression, priceless. LOL.

  • The blond dude is hoot !

  • they don't sound that brill tbh, u have to sing this song with passion nd emotion otherwise it sounds stupid nd flat...sorry boys but it has to be said, that wasn't the best...

  • they're both so lovable in their own way!

It's sad how these talent search shows destroy peoples' dreams, especially when they make fun of people who have big dreams but not so much talent.

  • the blond ones the best

  • god. these young teenboppers. no soul, nothing behind the eyes. A great performer will only come around once a decade, I hate these cookie cutter conveyer belt shows.

  • What a boring redition of this song......

  • Comment removed

  • the idea of singing for andrew lloyd webber makes me nervous sitting here. must say i don't like blondies voice.

  • andrew lloyd webber ROCKS!!!!!

  • Andrew made the wrong choice.

  • yeah two weeks earlier in letting lewis stay in.

  • I loved both Ben and Lewis although I agree that this may not have been the best song for them to sing.

I saw Lewis as Joseph while Lee was on holiday last January and he was amazing!

Also I have seen Ben as Link Larkin in Hairspray and am going to see him again in 3 weeks.

So I think that even though they may not be at their best in this video they are both amazing performers and will both get far.

  • it looks like the brown haired guy is looking for the lyrics on the roof

  • I loved both Ben and Lewis thought they were both really good singers, this just wasn't the best song for them in the sing-off.

I saw Lewis as Joseph last January and he was amazing and I have seen Ben as Link Larkin in Hairspray and am going to see it again in 2 weeks.

This wasn't a good choice for them but they are both still amazing performers.

  • They suck

  • WOW!!! How awful!!! Blondie kept scooping all over the place

  • Lewis's timing kills it for me.

I don't agree that this song is only for women. Michael Ball did a great job of it. Their voices just didn't gel at all. Having said that, I know they're supposed to be against each other but it just didn't sound... nice when they sang together.

  • ...o_O

  • Why cant men sing this song? A few SEXIST comments here. Cant men have dreams shattered too? hmmm

Yes in the show the song is designed to be sung by Fantine. But this isnt Les Mis, Its a song from the show being sung in a totaly different atmosphere and so there will be a different feel to it.

I have heard several other 'male' versions and this easily matches up to the professionals. (Michael Ball is one)

What if a woman was to sing Bui Doi or Greased lightning. would there be the same comments?

  • They're just awful though. The acting is horribly cliche and indicative and they're far more focussed on the singing than the emotion.

  • They just stand there it bugs me SO MUCH!!!

  • Yeah it's a great song...

    for a girl!!

Why not something from Miss Saigon or Blood Brothers?

The walk forward on the key change just killed it for me.

  • the coats need to go.

  • Absolutely fatal. This song was purposefully writtne for a WOMAN! Making two male singers perform it was cruel of Lloyd-Webber. They're good singers - it's just that this was totally the wrong song.

  • Good point there about the harmony. Good job they were competing against each other to get the best vocals across.

  • ok this is one of those songs which should only have female vocals. they both murdered it

  • FATAL!!!!!!!

  • Haha - I REALLY don't think Andrew understands what this song is really about! Ahaha.

But in all seriousnass...that was really bad! They're always really bad...I don't get why Andrew doesn't think they're always really bad...GAH! So plastic!

  • Wow. no really....wow.

  • If you like this, give a listen to Neil Diamond's version. Check out the change in lyrics. Enjoy!

  • Ummmm this is so ridiculous. ALW... the king of elevator music. Joseph? lol and why to these guys have to sing a woman's song? This is so stupid.

  • I'm happy to read that Ben moved on to better things, like actually being in a lead lol. I was a bit annoyed when the host said "You shared a dream, but for one of you it's OVER!" lol, I'm sure it was scripted, but geez.. just because you fail a competition doesn't mean you fail in life.

  • Blimey, this is abysmal.

  • i liked more of ben...

  • They were both shit and so was the programme.

  • What's with the weird coats

  • Its already been explained further up the comments.

  • Yeah, thanks ALW. You are no help at all...

  • Oh Dear.

  • I look forward to seeing him on stage very soon !

  • prove it!

  • That was awful!

  • this pisses me off a lot because im a guy and i sing this song better than them because i actually care about my talents. they both sucked on this song. *POOP*

  • People read the info that is provided in the box above and then google it. There is enough info on this page to figure out where this came from.

  • Why does Andrew Lloyd Webber love Lewis soo much??? Jeez, he should have gone out weeks before...he was in the sing off that many timess....

  • I just wanted to know what competition this is. And secondly, what's wrong with the song choice?! It's not fitting at all. This song has to be sung from the heart, from love. These boys make it obvious that their not interested.

  • is it just me? but did he pick the wrong guy?

  • What kind of competition is this?

    ...

I mean I know Andrew is here and all but wtf is this. The song was not even the right gender and what's the point of them doing a duet over it if it's a competition? If one screws up, the other is misled - that doesn't even make sense!

  • The song has been performed by several men before, so that is irrelevant. Michael Ball being one. A good actor/ress will be able to cope even if the other person 'screws up'. So the point is to pit the two together to see which one can stay into the next round/week and the other one goes home. Can I also point out that Andrew was also taking into consideration the REST OF THE WEEKS activities as well, not just the songoff. They both did well as anyone who has seen les mis on stage will know.

  • just wanna say "LOL"

  • Sung by a man - this song turns into a complete joke and loses all meaning. She took your childhood in her stride, eh? Worst song choice ever.

  • you can tell they really didn't want to do this

  • Only a person who has clearly suffered a broken heart can truly sing this song.

  • Well, Ben had the last laugh anyway. Lewis might have understudied Lee Mead as Joseph, but Ben ended up as leading man in Hairspray, which is undoubtably one of the truly wonderful musicals on in the west end currently. He's come on in leaps and bounds and even performed on John Barrowman's latest album, so well done to him!

  • Absolutely terrible!

Worst version I ever heard. What an insult to a timeless piece of music. Bland, generic, emotionless vocals, sat on top of a sped up, over produced, and mediocre arrangement.

Listen to Ruthie Henshall (not Susan Boyle) at the Les Mis anniversary show to hear this piece of art the way it was meant to be done.

  • I agree Susan did, but i believe these guys did too. knowing they had the possibility of being booted from the show. Its a career all the men on the show wanted.

I think they sung it very well, but again the song is well written and perfectly placed for both situations.

  • Susan Boyle sung from her heart......... naturally they cannot compare to what Susan did acheieve.

  • guapos¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • their are not good singers as well as Susan ,, but i like them ,,jeje they are handsome,

  • Susan did sing this better, but they also messed the word up it supposed to " he " not she

  • Yep but it would sound weird a Man singing 'He slept a summer by my side'

The other version i have of a man singing this song they also change the he's to she's to make it fit.

  • I think that Ben should have been saved. Poor him when he tried to thank Weber for this experience and the host just treated him as a bad loser and sent him off. I think that he should at least get to say his thoughts to Weber without being interupted by some obnoxious host.

  • Ben went on to bigger and better things in Hairspray ... a much better show than Joseph IMHO.

  • buuu flipados de caras bonitas....me parece que en el retrete se pegan horas, pk no tienen fuerza ni pa cagar jaja

  • it amazes me wot they call talent these days!

  • I agree; they're competent, but both just mediocre at best.

  • what the hell is with the cheesy jackets? and why would you have males performing a song written for the female voice? this is just way too bizarre.

  • The idea of the jackets was that they were in a competition for 'Joseph and the amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'. This song is the singoff and both boys were fully aware that one of them would shortly be going home have to hand back their coat. So they were both under immense pressure from the singoff.

Andrew chose Lewis over Ben not just on the song but the whole weeks work. I think lewis shone through on the acting part in the week (which isnt in this video). Ben has played Joseph since.

  • Too high for guys >_>

  • susan boyle brought me here...

and my comment for this video, it sucks.

    ..i.,

  • falta fuerzaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa faltan huevos hay

  • People, The comments section is for discussing THIS video from I'd do anything.

While we all know that Susan Boyle recently did a version on Britain's got talent (however good it is), here is not the place to put comments like 'Susan Boyle brought me here from Canada, Argentina, Spain etc'

Please keep comments to discussing THIS video (comparisons ok) or i will block the comments section.

  • I completely agree with you.

Commenting that someone else sent you to this site is idiotic, stupid, a sign of herd mentality. BTW, the producers of Britain's Got Talent admitted to CBC (Canada) that they staged the entire scenario of Susan's performance & shamefully manipulated the audience & viewers emotions.

YouTube should have a policy that stupid comments made by idiots and trolls be removed automatically.

BTW, I think both of these singers are excellent.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • they didnt sing that good. l cant sing like that though. xD

  • the blue one sang horribly, without emotion, and furthermore, looked a complete eyesore.

    Oh what bad taste.

I do believe that Susan Boyle is leagues above though!

  • Neil Diamond did a remarkably good performance of this song on his album Hot August Night II.

  • How ridiculous. Ben was SOOOOO much better than Lewis! Oh well, I always thought Andrew Lloyd Webber was a jerk. Look how he treated Patti Lupone.

  • So glad to be able to hear this sung by male voices. Thank you to Susan Boyle for introducing me to this fantastic song.

  • Comment removed

  • Bravo Susan. You're the best one. Kiss

  • Beautiful. They sang beautifully.

  • These guys were on two years ago and Susan Boyle is brand new. I think back when they did it it was FANTASTIC ut Susan is good.

  • i hated this. susan rocks!

  • Susan is still the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Susan Boyle, you are still the best. We love you.

  • SUSAN!!!

  • at the beginning of the tape the blond haired guy is on the left. when they start singing he is on the right. what's up????

  • IT ALL ABOUT SUSAN! man she PWNES THESE GUYS HARD!

  • This sucks

  • They both are good singers but I think they are not a good duet.

  • so poor after susan boyle did it ! it will never be the same !

  • Susan's delivery was just so powerful no one has come close to her version and feeling even the performer in the play. These boys don't even come close and not being mean but God Susan felt that song. These two lack the power in their voices. Interesting to see all the versions of this song.

  • nope this was not too good to hear. They didn't grab the feeling of the song. Oh and Susan Boyle's performance of this song is what brought me here. Though I applaud the guys' efforts. Though I think they couldn't grab the tempo right, and they seemed to approach the song differently than what I would have thought. Though this is just my opinion. Thanks for sharing this video though. :)

  • Hell i thought both are good!!!! Ok maybe am wrong.Lo0l.

  • This song is for females, in my opinion.

  • don't be a moron. there's no such thing as a song being "for females". music is universal and transcendent. that's like saying certain paintings are for females.

  • They didn't feel the song the were singing! Had they liked the song they would have sung it much better than they had!

  • God this is a tough song to sing. I think the guy in the orange sang better in this clip, but, for me, the guy in he blue has more potential. Just seems to have a bigger voice, but it needs more tweaking...

  • I think the guy on the left (Orange coat) had more emotion then the guy on the right. the guy on the right seemed still and not a lot of emotion like the other dude.

  • Cant get over the coats...this is a comedy routine right?

  • remeber, about the coats..

this is for joseph and the TECHNICOLOR DREAM COAT!

  • I think Lewis was the stronger voice on the night, not perfect but at this stage of the comp I think they were great.

  • They weren't THAT BAD. I've heard MUCH worse. :)

  • this sucks!

thanks for ruining my favourite song :|

  • why do they have to wear those ugly jackets?

I was surprised at the end. I thought the orange one seemed much better, I felt it more in his face, and the blue one's voice kind of annoyed me. Although I did notice the orange one didn't hold one or two notes as long as he should have. Maybe that was why? I don't know.

  • it really wasn't that good... was it?

  • ok...

    wtf?

    they suck.

Andrew Loyd Weber looks royally pissed with them.

  • why was lewis saved?! He was so flat!

  • Wow...they really suck. How did they get on this show anyway?

  • they both sucked!

    Good thing they both

    never won Joseph.

  • yuck!!!

  • my ears are extremely offended

  • I think this song sounds brilliantly sung by man

  • whats with the hideous coats? haha

  • ben was definately worse than lewis, but now ben is now link in hairspray! i hate the arrangement!

  • When the announcer said "Neither of you wanted to sing this, but YOU MUST!"

I was like hell yeah they didn't want to sing it! They probably knew it would sound terrible with their voices and was never meant to be sung by male vocalists.

But they do have great voices on their own.

  • theres a guy at my school who sings this and it sounds really good

  • i think its more to do with the fact they're both obviously struggling with it so must find it hard, although i don't think it's that difficult

  • wow. wow. this is nauseating.

  • I couldn't agree with you more! Horrible!

  • Who does the presenter think he is? Ben should have won anyway.

  • Why the hell was the blond guy smiling at the end? He ruined the end of his performance!

Otherwise they both very emotional- there vocals were good too, and they gave me a new perspective of the song, which I'm singing in an audition next week.

Anyway, I still think they did their best- but who is who, and which one won and what year was this in?

  • None of the 2 actually won the competition. It was a man named Lee Mead and it was to play Joseph in the west end. The competition was in 2007. I just uploaded this clip because I love the song so much.

  • i think theyre ok...

  • Why are they singing what has to be a woman's song? Because it's so lovely and gentle when Fantine sings it. Ew. They ruined it :(

  • i love bennnnnnnnnnnn after hairspray i hugged him and he went "grrrrrrrrrr" ahahah

    but i love lewis too.

so it was a lose lose situation rlly;)

  • they really suck

  • Wow these guys suck!!!!

Can we please have some real actors back in the musical theatre?!

  • i really hate lewis.

  • I cried during this, 1st time I'd heard the song. However Ruthie is totally amazing. You'd think that there were no male MT songs the amount of womens song they had to perform

  • wheres the power? too lame for me, you fail to me

  • I think its not a bad version. Of course any song performed out of its original setting is going to loose a lot of power. You loose the build up, the setting, the set, the lighting, the atmosphere. So I think its a good performance performed by the lads on a song that was designed for a woman who just got fired with a kid to look after and no money.

  • pshhh lower harmon y took a breath in shame, and the higher held on strong. THATS SAD,MAN. high ish harder for guys then lower. if itad been women, and the higher took a breath i'd chastise her because high is easier for us.

  • Ben was better in Hairspray then Joseph

I still think Ben was still better

  • Its kinda great!!!!

  • men shouldnt sing this.

  • WHY...?????

  • Well, it doesn't seem like a song a man would sing. It doesn't really suit men.

  • I'm so glad lee won. I saw him last night in London and he was absolutely fabulous <333

  • I didnt like it.

  • Is he the dude playing link in the London cast???

  • i find it so creepy hearing guys singing this song.

  • Thank you! It's horrible :(

  • they weren't bad, it was just the fact that the show had them sing together, which was stupid, cuz, they're in competition with each other, they can't sing the same through the whole thing so they sound good as a duo, they needed to shine individually. That's why it sounded bad together, cuz they were being themselves and trying to show how they as individuals would sing that song, not as a duo. and that host sucked: cut off ALW and cut off the guy when he was trying to thank them! "ya sorry.."
