All Volunteer Fire Departments by the standards of NIMS/ICS should have a way of communication by radio or pager. The siren SHOULD be used for severe weather warning. Perhaps you can bring that up so Volunteer FD can respond without the...YOUR GONNA DIE BITCH(!!!) alarm going off.
At 4:16, that's exactly how the sirens sounded at my cousins house in easton. You would hear the ACA Screamer first then after 4 seconds you'd hear the Federal Signal model 5 wind up.
Alright I don't have the time to sit here and read all the comments so if someone has already posted a similar comment I apologize. First of all, most weather alerts that use an "air raid" siren are nothing more than a solid blast that last for about 3 minutes. When volunteers use the siren its usually a series of blast that are normally 3 blast. Have a good one.
you will only hear a difference if you know what to listen for in both sirens. My fire department has 2 sirens. 1 for the rescue squad or 1 for the fire department. Only the people who are apart of the fire department tend to know the difference. But come on, you hear a fire truck siren. That time its kind of obvious. If you look up and see the clouds twisting, you will know the difference. Some times it is obvious which is which
I remember when i was at my aunts and i heard the ACA Screamer going off and the Federal Signal Model 5. Well. It was just to let people know the fire department was coming out. She lives behind the Royal Farms restaurant. Shes a good distance from it but you can still hear them. The spot shes in the sirens sound weird but that's cuz were a far distance. Where i was at when i heard them it sounded like there was 2 ACA Screamers and 1 model 5 siren. I think theres 3 sirens. 2 ACA's and 1 FS Mod 5
I read what you wrote on the video and would have to say. If they are going to abuse the outdoor warning system they need to take it down. If this problem is continuing I will contact someone who will take care of it. You don't sound a fire siren when a storm is rolling in. I have gotten counties in trouble for that. It is a stupid move because people panic and think something drastic is happening.
@HowWouldWeKnowTheDif I want to send you a link of a vid thats also token in easton Maryland. I took the vid. My aunt lives in easton and we were having a party and i heard the sirens going off. If you listen closly to the vid. Tell me if the sirens you hear in my vid are the ones i hear at the beginning of this vid,
One town I lived in had three separate sounds for three different "calls"....one, the alert was for the county VFD; the attack was for the city VFD; the third was for tornado warning...once you understood what each was for, it wasn't so bad.
it seems as if you're just to ignorant and arogant to realize the difference. and no, you do NOT need a siren to tell you that theres a thunderstorm, they are there for tornados and huRricanes, if they blew every time a rain drop came into town I'm sure you'd be pissing and moaning about that too, right? get a life and find something else to bitch about, and do us all a favor and become more informed, you are clearly just a no life having stuck up dickweed
Respondents are making fun of you but in truth your point is well taken. One signal needs to be used as a warning of emergency vehicles heading out and another signal used for weather emergencies. In the case of tornadoes there usually is llimited time for anyone to figure out what he or she is hearing.
all I gotta say is if you're that damn retarded to not the difference then something is wrong with you hell look up proscan on your computer and download the client version then you can hear all the fire calls.
Why don't they just use the steady alert tone for Tornado? FEMA CPG 1-17 specifies that a Steady Alert Tone is for general emergencies like a tornado and the Wailing Rise-Fall is only to be used for an Enemy Attack.
Its called LOOK AT THE TV! If it says tornado warning or severe thunderstorm warning, GO TAKE COVER. And I would invest in a CB radio to listen to the fire calls (thats legal) and invest in a NOAA weather radio for weather updates
if i was in that situation, i'd prolly go inside and take cover anyway, however, watching to the end of the video, i do believe it was a fire siren, due to the Power Call siren on a passing emergency vehicle for the first siren, then on the second siren, another passing emergency vehicle as told by the federal Q siren. another reason could be due to the fact that only a severe thunderstorm warning was issued and not a tornado warning.
i dont know it sorta depends it sorta sounds like a weather siren. but maybe some companies have them like tht.. well if it didnt keep on blowing then might have been a minor wreck or something like tht.
Here in WI the fire siren is up and down for a couple minuets. The Tornado siren is a solid blast for several minuets. We do not have a siren blast for any severe weather expect tornadoes. I'm guessing it is the same in your area.
At 5:57 you can HEAR AND SEE the fire engine!!!!! And at the beggining, If you heard the Wee-Woo at 1:40-2:00, that is a secondary fire engine siren that they use instead of using the actual Federal Q siren that you can hear at 5:57. Dude, I work for a very busy volentere fire department, I would know. It was probably both fire/"iminant danger".
If you heard the Wee-Woo at 1:40-2:00, that is a secondary fire engine siren that they use instead of using the actual Federal Q siren. AND if the whatever siren went off a second time it is fire siren,or a huge fire.
Neat video - the sirens sounded quite neat together in semi-attack. With all due respect though, its a simple siren signal - if it's not to alert the towns folk of a fire call, and someone logically puts a dark sky with hazardous weather forecasts together, the siren becomes a mere prompt. Tune in to a TV, radio, or All Hazards tuner to learn more - sirens can only convey so much. Typical STWs will never prompt a siren activation lest a TOR watch is already in effect.
in response to the multiple sirens this is common in serious accidents, i live a quarter mile west of one fire station and 2 miles north of another and have heard the sirens from both going off at the same time quite frequenty...
Sorry to double-post comments like this, but one thing I noticed: the first time when you were outside, those sounded like one was a Federal Signal 2T22, but the second and FINAL time you heard sirens, that had to be a Federal Signal 2001 - most commonly used for "Imminent Danger" situations. Hope maybe this helped.
It's too bad they don't just straight-out do the same thing all over the country: having "Alert" as a 3 minute thing for imminent danger. Though, in my state, we have NO all-clear.
This is an incredibly haunting video you made. (Did I remember to rate this video as "Like"?)
OH FOR FUCKIN SAKE! THAT IS A FIRE SIREN! DID YOU HEAR AND SEE THE FIRE ENGINE THE SECOND TIME? It was probably both fire and tornado sirens at the same time!
As a southern Maryland EMT, I have to say that your complaints are pretty unreasonable. If we didn't sound those alarms, you'd complain. If we sound them, you continue to complain. It's your job as a citizen to find out what those alarms mean. And from the sounds of things? That's a fire alarm. Three cycles. That's if your local jurisdiction is the same as mine. I'm sure if you went down to the firehouse and ASKED, they'd gladly tell you.
ok if the air rad gose off ones its an amblance call 2 times its a fire call 3 times with both and 8 times is the take cover now idk how ur county dose it but thats how we do in in st.marrys md im a firefighter so ied know lol
1 time, i wus @ a waterpark when a t-storm hit. i heard a siren go off the whole time the storm was. i didn't know if it was 4 lightning or a fire call.
These are tornado sirens. If you listen you can hear several of them going off at different times. fire horns within the same town or Township all go off at once so they sound like 1 horn. we have 2 horns -1 at each of our volunteer fire departments in the township, and they both go off together. most weather horns are 1 constant blare. Fire horns sound intermittent until all the guys get there then are turned off. Weather horns are tuned on and off -on a few minutes, off for a few. (like here)
They being the town should have never shut off the siren if there was a severe weather event. SeattleKid8. I'm in full agreement with your suggestion. I would also highly suggest purchasing a Weather radio. Many towns here in NH keep the old sirens going, As they double as a Civil Defence siren.
The only thing is that old sirens like the Thunderbolt over heat if they go longer then a 5 minute warning. The max is 10 minutes. Sirens do get hot when they sound unless its the 2001 siren due to the air intake feature. The 2T22 gets hot and can only last a 5 minute warning. Thats why the sirens rest and then sound again.
mindbreaker21601 is a dumbfuck. Don't listen to him. You can see the pridiciment but it looks like a storm. Listen to the tone next time. A weavering "attack" siren is for severe weather and a high then low siren is for a fire.
You have to be some kind of a fucking dumbass not to know when a big storm is coming. do you watch the news. can u see the fucking skies. dont rag on the fire department for ur retardation. ur a fucking moron
we do not use sirens where i am from for anything. (shelton ct) the town does not want to pay the upkeep. But i do agree that they should really figure out a set way to alert people. It is confusing and could possiably injure someone. if there is nasty weather out dont use the siren unless there is a reason(ie tornado, hurricane, etc) I would assume the ff have pagers? use those. just my 2 cents.
Although the fire call and air raid are similar.... If you ever hear an air raid I doubt you will need to worry long after. As with almost every county in the U.S., Sirens are NOT used for general severe weather. They are ONLY used when Tornado Warnings are issued. This does NOT include thunderstorm warnings. The sound is also different. A steady tone sounds much different then the up-down tones. Youtube tornado sirens.
Actually, I am seeing more and more towns sound the sirens for bad storms. Like my old county, they sounded their sirens due to a bad storm the video is on my channel. Along with another towns not to far from here. Not trying to sound mean here but just because they are tornado sirens doesn't mean that they are ment to be used for just that.
The two signals you listed are too similar to each other. It would be better if the signals were more like this: Three long blasts (15 sec. on/10 sec. off) for fire calls, 3-5 minute steady "alert" blast for tornado warning, and a 3-5 wavering (5 sec. on/ 5 sec. off) tone for immanent danger. These patterns are used in many European countries to differentiate signals.
well as a fire fighter in easton the siren allows pepole to know that fire personal are in route. and also lets childern know to get out of the road. and the fact that there is sirens in the back round it is deffently a fire call. it and as you say just an accident. thats kinda screwed up. but you seem that you dont care.
if for some reason something happend to you or your home you would want that siren to be blowing. to let you know they are comeing. most people know the differnce.
@mattmiles60 yeah its fire call sounds like a structure or a dwelling fire the way the siren sounded quick wail less than 2 minutes and then the tones for mutual aid for surrounding VFDs maybe an EMS call or Resuce MVA call idk or an AFA
@mattmiles60 In a big city it would cause chaos. Especially like down here in the South where Tornado's are common. We just use E911, Motorola Harmony Radio system's, and Nextel iDEN to communicate and rely emergency information. Our dispatchers just keep the caller on the line to let them know there is emergency response on the way.
@mattmiles60 That is why the firetruck has a siren on it you dumbass. You don't need an outdoor siren to alert people of a fire unless the fire is explosive or there is a chemical that can harm a wide spread community. Now if this area is going to use sirens the way they do. They need to get modulators so people know wtf is going on. Apparently they sound the sirens whenever and that is why this guy is confused.
it is a fire call most likely, because the siren does not generally sound when a severe t-storm warning is issued, there would usually be a tornado watch along w/ it. so being stormy and all, it was likely a coincidence.
Im a Firefighter in Easton. The Siren is a community alert siren to alert the community that fire department personnel are responding in personal vehicles to the fire station and also the apparatus will be on the road. As my fellow firefighter said before, the sirens are used 99% for emergency response and 1% for testing. one ring up and down is a medical alert, and any more than that is a fire/rescue response.
A Severe Thuderstorm Warning should not, and in most cases does not provoke a Siren Response. The only exception is in extreme severe weather (Hail larger then Baseballs and/or Winds over 80 MPH). Otherwise, If you dont know whats going on, that's your fault. If you want a warning for each event, get a NOAA All Hazards Radio.
Wow that's dangerous. Our sirens activate Alert constant mode for Tornado warning, and Attack signal up and down for Tornado touchdown or other imminent emergency. My center dispatches FD through use of Nextel and Pagers
Why does Easton MD sound the sirens for two minutes for Tornado Warnings thats too short in my city of Minneapolis MN they sound the sirens for five minutes of steady Alert for both Tornado Warnings and Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for Distructive Wind gusts in eccess of 75 MPH or higher also the sirens are tested in Alert and Attack of the monthy test on the first Wednesday of the month at 1:00PM my city uses Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1000Ts 2001s and Model 2s which are downtown
We use air raid sirens in Australia to alert the general public of emergency calls and to notify volunteers who missed the initial pager call that theres a call out
I'm a member of the Easton VFD. If there was iminent danger, or severe weather, then you would be alerted first by television. And even if there is a sever weather watch, I don't think the sirens go off for that unless there was severe tornados or hurricanes, something in that nature. I'm almost 99 percent sure that the siren you heard was in response to a fire call
Talbot Emergency Management NOW says the Imminent Danger Signal is 6 seconds up and 2 seconds down (not 20 up 2 down, which they told me last week). No one seems to know what the Fire Department siren is, but if you count along with the sirens in this video you get about 5 seconds up 3 seconds down. How are we supposed to differentiate between the two sounds? They also told me that Imminent Danger would NOT sound for a national weather service severe thunderstorm warning? Why not?
@HowWouldWeKnowTheDif I live in MN, and they sound the sirens for severe thunderstorm warnings with gust fronts and any other high wind phenomena. That would be extremely stupid if they wouldn't use them for it out there in MD. Don't know anything about the volunteer fire dept stuff (I'm from the suburbs haha)
@HowWouldWeKnowTheDif the second round of sirens going off was the fire wistle i know this because i heard this sound every monday night on work night at the fire hall
I talked to the County Emergency Management Department and was told that the Fire Signal is 20 up 6 down and the Imminent Danger Siren is 20 up 2 down. They seem to be satisfied that we would be able to notice the difference between the two speeds of wavering tones. ? I think maybe no one has taken the time to compare the two signals side by side before.
I think you should go to the city council and tell the fire station to sound ATTACK (wavering tone) and sound alert (steady tone) for tornados, severe storms etc. If it really becomes a problem I think your town should get electronic sirens with voice and more tones.
that looked to me like power flashes in the video

fire is a wind up of about 5 and winddown of like 7..
a weather alert is 3 minutes on, 1 off, and a cycle 3 times. then once more for all clear

Am i the only one that heard the powercall after the sirens shut off? :D
Antipwnsurmum 2 years ago
mindbreaker21601 is a dumbfuck. Don't listen to him. You can see the pridiciment but it looks like a storm. Listen to the tone next time. A weavering "attack" siren is for severe weather and a high then low siren is for a fire.
SecretService80 2 years ago
You have to be some kind of a fucking dumbass not to know when a big storm is coming. do you watch the news. can u see the fucking skies. dont rag on the fire department for ur retardation. ur a fucking moron
delladabeasturmom 2 years ago
we do not use sirens where i am from for anything. (shelton ct) the town does not want to pay the upkeep. But i do agree that they should really figure out a set way to alert people. It is confusing and could possiably injure someone. if there is nasty weather out dont use the siren unless there is a reason(ie tornado, hurricane, etc) I would assume the ff have pagers? use those. just my 2 cents.
dvwart 2 years ago
my town only uses our siren in the up and down mode for severe weather, my fire dept. no longer uses the fire call siren

They need to replace the Model 5 with a Thunderbolt 1003 or 3T22.

Or if you are that concerned, what you can also do is goto Radioshack and buy a cheap scanner and monitor the Talbot County Fire Dept. on 159.1800

Not trying to sound mean here but just because they are tornado sirens doesn't mean that they are ment to be used for just that.
crazywarriorman 2 years ago
The two signals you listed are too similar to each other. It would be better if the signals were more like this: Three long blasts (15 sec. on/10 sec. off) for fire calls, 3-5 minute steady "alert" blast for tornado warning, and a 3-5 wavering (5 sec. on/ 5 sec. off) tone for immanent danger. These patterns are used in many European countries to differentiate signals.

bigbluecrane5 2 years ago
well as a fire fighter in easton the siren allows pepole to know that fire personal are in route. and also lets childern know to get out of the road. and the fact that there is sirens in the back round it is deffently a fire call. it and as you say just an accident. thats kinda screwed up. but you seem that you dont care.
if for some reason something happend to you or your home you would want that siren to be blowing. to let you know they are comeing. most people know the differnce.
mattmiles60 2 years ago 4
@mattmiles60 yeah its fire call sounds like a structure or a dwelling fire the way the siren sounded quick wail less than 2 minutes and then the tones for mutual aid for surrounding VFDs maybe an EMS call or Resuce MVA call idk or an AFA
JKSK8ERLIVE 1 year ago
@mattmiles60 In a big city it would cause chaos. Especially like down here in the South where Tornado's are common. We just use E911, Motorola Harmony Radio system's, and Nextel iDEN to communicate and rely emergency information. Our dispatchers just keep the caller on the line to let them know there is emergency response on the way.
highlanderhybrid 10 months ago
@mattmiles60 That is why the firetruck has a siren on it you dumbass. You don't need an outdoor siren to alert people of a fire unless the fire is explosive or there is a chemical that can harm a wide spread community. Now if this area is going to use sirens the way they do. They need to get modulators so people know wtf is going on. Apparently they sound the sirens whenever and that is why this guy is confused.
turbocountry 10 months ago
it is a fire call most likely, because the siren does not generally sound when a severe t-storm warning is issued, there would usually be a tornado watch along w/ it. so being stormy and all, it was likely a coincidence.
SUPERGLUE55 2 years ago
oh i love how at 1:07 you can start to hear the Powercall siren of an ambulance or the Chief vehicle.
Bensmithstation60 2 years ago
Im a Firefighter in Easton. The Siren is a community alert siren to alert the community that fire department personnel are responding in personal vehicles to the fire station and also the apparatus will be on the road. As my fellow firefighter said before, the sirens are used 99% for emergency response and 1% for testing. one ring up and down is a medical alert, and any more than that is a fire/rescue response.
Bensmithstation60 2 years ago
A Severe Thuderstorm Warning should not, and in most cases does not provoke a Siren Response. The only exception is in extreme severe weather (Hail larger then Baseballs and/or Winds over 80 MPH). Otherwise, If you dont know whats going on, that's your fault. If you want a warning for each event, get a NOAA All Hazards Radio.

Wow that's dangerous. Our sirens activate Alert constant mode for Tornado warning, and Attack signal up and down for Tornado touchdown or other imminent emergency. My center dispatches FD through use of Nextel and Pagers
highlanderhybrid 2 years ago
Why does Easton MD sound the sirens for two minutes for Tornado Warnings thats too short in my city of Minneapolis MN they sound the sirens for five minutes of steady Alert for both Tornado Warnings and Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for Distructive Wind gusts in eccess of 75 MPH or higher also the sirens are tested in Alert and Attack of the monthy test on the first Wednesday of the month at 1:00PM my city uses Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1000Ts 2001s and Model 2s which are downtown
garyhstorms09 2 years ago
We use air raid sirens in Australia to alert the general public of emergency calls and to notify volunteers who missed the initial pager call that theres a call out
rstewart0403 2 years ago
I'm a member of the Easton VFD. If there was iminent danger, or severe weather, then you would be alerted first by television. And even if there is a sever weather watch, I don't think the sirens go off for that unless there was severe tornados or hurricanes, something in that nature. I'm almost 99 percent sure that the siren you heard was in response to a fire call
crookardjr 2 years ago
maybe theyre warning for both :P

maybe but i the sky is that dark then u'ed think red danger "red danger = Doom's day"
silenthill123321 2 years ago
it was imminet danger BUT to me it sound's like Red danger siren
silenthill123321 2 years ago
Talbot Emergency Management NOW says the Imminent Danger Signal is 6 seconds up and 2 seconds down (not 20 up 2 down, which they told me last week). No one seems to know what the Fire Department siren is, but if you count along with the sirens in this video you get about 5 seconds up 3 seconds down. How are we supposed to differentiate between the two sounds? They also told me that Imminent Danger would NOT sound for a national weather service severe thunderstorm warning? Why not?
HowWouldWeKnowTheDif 2 years ago
A severe thunderstorm warning is usually EAS only in most places. Tornados are normally what most places warrant as worthy of siren activation.
Antipwnsurmum 2 years ago
@HowWouldWeKnowTheDif I live in MN, and they sound the sirens for severe thunderstorm warnings with gust fronts and any other high wind phenomena. That would be extremely stupid if they wouldn't use them for it out there in MD. Don't know anything about the volunteer fire dept stuff (I'm from the suburbs haha)

No. It's an ACA Screamer and a Model 3.
crazywarriorman 2 years ago
I talked to the County Emergency Management Department and was told that the Fire Signal is 20 up 6 down and the Imminent Danger Siren is 20 up 2 down. They seem to be satisfied that we would be able to notice the difference between the two speeds of wavering tones. ? I think maybe no one has taken the time to compare the two signals side by side before.
HowWouldWeKnowTheDif 2 years ago
Where i live for a tornado warning its just a steady tone for fire calls its 13 seconds up and 13 seconds down
Enjoi4659 2 years ago
Low pitched one sounds like an ACA Banshee. Very nice.

If you lived by the fire hall and no firefighters show up after the siren goes off, then you'll know to head for the basement!
flyboyandmeg 2 years ago
I think you should go to the city council and tell the fire station to sound ATTACK (wavering tone) and sound alert (steady tone) for tornados, severe storms etc. If it really becomes a problem I think your town should get electronic sirens with voice and more tones.
