well im not sure where they get released, does anyone know? I would hope its not back by the oil slick. But then again thats their natural habitat.... so hmmmmm
nodlon20-- It is my understanding that all the birds that are rehabilitated are released into clean areas that are approved by federal and state agencies, as well as by the IBRRC. These people qualify, at least in my mind, as heroes. They do not have to do this job; it's a labor of love. Good on you.
It is interesting that according to the Center for Responsive Politics that Obama was top recipient of BP-related donations during the 2008 presidential election!!! Wake up people!!!
You know; I see a lot of mixed reactions about this; but I think that even if many of these animals die anyways, and even if thousands are washing up on the shores: at least these people are doing SOMETHING to try to help. It may seem futile, but these guys aren't giving up just because it looks impossible. Impossible is just a word used as a reason not to try.
It's so SAD!! And all that is for one bird!! Can you imagine how many need to be cleaned? And what are the chances this Pelican won't dive back into oil slicked waters?? So SAD!! I cry for all the wildlife. I would love to go down there and help them! I hope they released the Pelican somewhere far away from that nasty stuff!
Thank you to everyone putting time in at the rehabilitation centers. Those BP fuckers need to do 12 hour shifts cleaning all the oil covered wildlife that will be showing up at the centers.
Thank you so much for taking care of these beautiful creatures. They are in desperate need of your help. Keep up the good work. You are making a differance.
i really hate you BP guys. i hope people will boycott the whole BP company like i will do you for fckn up our planet!! please stop with this kind of PR exercise no one believe this. F*CK U BP
This is a bullshit PR ploy! One Pelican compared to how many others? Dead animals are washing up on the coast in the thousands. Entire beaches are covered in fish, dolphins, turtles, birds...whenever a pic is posted, an hour later it's taken down. I applaud the efforts of those trying to save the few animals they're finding alive but this doesn't make me feel better at all.
Thank you for all your efforts in helping to save our wildlife, especially the pelicans. I know you're doing all you can and the rest is up to God. Please know that I appreciate you and your staff for saving one bird at a time.
This is a PR exercise used to make you feel better about what is happening. What they don't say is that the vast majority of these birds/animals die shortly afterwards due to ingestation of oil that gradually destroys their internal organs. They will not mention this to you. They want you to feel that this issue is not as bad as you suspect. They want to maintain a positive public image in an effort to minimise impact to the company and its interests. They are manipulating you.
I would like to become certified to wash oiled birds. If anyone knows how I can do this, please contact me. Thanks.
