When I first saw this scene I lost it. She's basically permanently cut off from her past and who she was. It's not who she is anymore, just sort of where she came from. So in a way, a part of her is dead, and in a way, it had to die to make her who she is today. In a sense she's mourning her own death in this scene (and loss of innocence). I have my own personal stuff going on that sort of echoes Faye's memory loss in terms of the aforementioned, so this hits really close to home for me.
I just turned 40.This makes me sad to watch.I love it.I have been watching anime for over 36 years.Sucks my time here is almost over.Time realy does fly.
@tanania You are Sooo right about the relate on many levels,we need this kind of motivation from time 2 time in the days of our lives if it's just taking a math TEST,going on a DATE,or 2 settle down with that squeeze of yours all in all, I think we all need 2 watch this ! X)
No lie, this is probably the saddest yet inspiring anime scene I've ever seen.
On the videotape she was just a sweet and innocent little girl trying to uplift herself in the future, but sadly Faye doesn't remember any of it. It truely is a tear-jerking moment.
From reading all the comments here, it's a good thing to know I wasn't the only one to get emotional while watching this scene. It's so sad. But cute at the same time. It's just bittersweet is what it is :'/
Oh, man.... this scene gets to me so bad... This is totally pure Cowboy Bebop~ They'll have their fun and games scenes but when they need to have some affirmation, they'll do it right~
ah fuck.. the Japanese dub. no thanks.

Come on, this is one of the most powerful, intense, subtle and human scenes ever done in animation. Someone has to say it.

"does the light and the wind, the air and the smell, all feel brand new?" That's something we ought to ask ourselves everyday.

On some level, everyone is still who they were at that age. Only the lucky have their pasts cheer them on.

It is better to have nothing but memories than to have nothing at all. But for Faye...well...

Scene is better dubbed. No, I'm not trolling.

Not certain if this scene is better subbed or dubbed.
