I waited years for warlocks to be able to get legendaries and just before firelands hits i get told i wont get one pretty much cos the officers ddn't like me, the 1st went to
GM mage who was bad
Officer warlock who was ok
Officer Shamman who was very good
Bad Spriest
Bad boomkin
then healers got the embers before me, despite the fact i out dps'd everyone of them and showed up to all raids and made no noob mistakes and im still now going to 10m firelands trying to get the 391 weapon.
I remember doing the Bendiction quest chain on my priest in vanilla. that was a ton of fun, doing a hard class specific quest that proved you knew how to play your class. bring back more of that style.
I like legendaries, they bring a special touch to the game. But yeah I gotto agree a bit. Firelands was so easy that my guild cleared the whole instance every Wednesday on 3-4 hours. I played warlock by that time and worked unfortunately on Wednesday night. So missed about every and was mainly nominated for it. The guild died eventually for SWTOR. So I had to find a new one and had real trouble finding one cause i didnt have dragonwrath and FL was impossible to pug for ember/cinder reserves
my major problem with dragonwrath is that u have to rely on a guild to get the legendary and that is what causes the issues. my fav quest chain for an item is quel'dalar and the fact that its almost soloable was great. only needing a 5 man party to help u gain the weapon once was awesome because i didnt have to rely on a guild and i didnt have to fight over it with anyone else in the guild. when my guild was in FL, there were 4 ppl in the raid grp that was on the quest. i agree with lore on this
@15:30 - class specific stuff - if you haven't checked it out, check out SW:TOR. That game pushes a class specific story on you throughout your entire leveling process. Instead of stupid breadcrumb quests to move you from zone to zone, your overarching class story is what gets you moving from place to place. The leveling experience in TOR is about a million times better than WoW's has become.
would be nice if they figured out a way to make a legendary that you could use for more than 1/3 (if that), of an x-pac. although that has been said many-a-time.
The thing about "I need to be in every raid" is not unique to legendary wielders (see maintanks and raidleaders). But yes, I do agree, legendaries are not worth it..
I don't care what anyone says, Diablo is awesome. Going from multiple 10 mans each with a rogue in it, to having an average of say 3 rogues in a 25 man setting, forces most guilds to not ignore the issue of legendary weapons all together so long as they exist in the game in the way that they do currently.
As a warlock who's finished the 2nd Dragonwrath in our 10 man group, everything you've said is pretty much true. Now the guild is "taking a break" and it feels awful being married to this guild for the rest of its life span. The guilds likely gonna disband before MoP and I'm stuck for the whole process.
I'm remembering the hunter-specific quest chain from Vanilla WoW for "Rhok'delar, Longbow of the Ancient Keepers." Though it was not a "legendary" weapon, the quest chain certainly made it -feel0 legendary. It evoked the sense of "I have earned the right to call myself a hunter," simply because of how HARD the quest chain was.
In short, the bow was more of a tangible status symbol of one's achievements. If legendaries accomplished this, then I wouldn't mind them continuing to exist in the game.
Great topic. I agree 100% and with the idea of improvements. Benediction kind of rings a bell in that respect and I'm sure they can refine that idea they started. Another problem I could list is the players in a heroic 25-man are obviously dedicated and love the game. How does a casual in a 10-man get a legendary over them because there's eight in the 25 guild? Scrub-a-dub over here walking around with their slow staff while raid-a-holic played for seven years misses out in a group of his peers.
My guild -Modest- on Kilrogg just got a kill on heroic Spine with only one legendary in the comp (Mage). Could it have been easier with 3 more legendaries? Yes. Would it have been easier with 2 rogues and 3 mages? Yes. But we did it without those advantages. It is doable. This means it's not a broken item. It'd be broken to me if this wasn't killable without legendaries but is just not the case. I think when hunters have 416 bows they will catch up to a reasonable place on the charts h
Hmmm I think a person, if they really want a legendary, should be able to get it by undertaking a difficult and time consuming SOLO requirment. Therfor the whole "who gets it" is taken away and also its not up to the guild to do it with the person, they have to do take initiative and do it on their own so it doesn't waste the guilds time if they quit.
So you want it to be a Gladiator reward? Getting Glad is pretty much the only way to show you are a master of your class unless you are part of a top end guild.
@MyMantenna I would love this. I'd rather not be able to get a legendary because of my own skill, rather than being unable to get raids together/progress/all the problems of raiding.

WOW used to have some more personals story lines and experiences, but they got rid of them all, and they paled in comparison to SWTOR anyway.
@CJICantLie Because those requied you to get a group for a dungeon that no one would ever do anymore, especially not at the right level. No one go through Sethekk Halls HC at lvl70 anymore, except to boost a friend or to try to get the Raven God mount, so no swift flight form for druids until they can solo it, for example.
I did it at lvl70, and did Dreadsteed at lvl70 too, and even then it was an awsome event! I got the priest-staff Benediction at lvl80 and I still loved it!
bored to tears of not only farming old content, but seeing the recycled formula blizz uses to keep subs goin month after month after month.... sure your online friends are great. sure you have the addiction habit of logging into wow each day. sure you've had so many great times and great memories in game.. but... seriously its time to stop. blizz doesn't care about how to implement a legendary item to make the game epic. its executives care about how to make the community spend another 15 bucks
i think class based quests the first patch of an expansion to give each person a chance to get a decent weapon to start out with, that always seems to be a struggle for quite a few people.
Hey Allen about the legendary, i really agree with what you said and in addition to that some guilds have kicked a lot of people without legendary staff or even made their old players standby just because a person who has a legendary will do higher dps than the person without the legendary staff. I really hope they change all this crap about legendary staff or weapons
@Soleman1989 Perhaps instead of guild bound make it possible to trade, but to get it you require some ridiculously hard-to-get achievement, based around time spent in game and skill, not drop %.
Eg: Clear what you had to to get the legendary 20times, or the equivalent of how long it took to get the Legendary.
hmmmm that quest chain idea reminds me of something... hmmm... what could it be.. OH WAIT they use to have an amazing fun quest chain for both paladins and warlocks to get there epic mounts but they were to hard for the little kids who wanted everything handed to them instead of actually DOING the work and playing the game so they removed it and just let them pay to get it.. ooo that is so much fun man i hate blizzard for making WoW so damn easy.
That solution sounds a lot like how endgame rewards work in City of Heroes, the majority of rewards that are spesific to one player are cool emotes, auras or costume parts that you can apply to your character model. The latest trial (raid) even drops a reskinned pistol model that you can either give to your pistol using character or sell it on the auction house if you don't want it.
i would love it if they would change legendaries to be like the custom equipment in SWTOR. you have this item, but you keep changing out its guts to make it useful.
you actually dont have to solo the rogue boss. you just have to wait for someone else to attack it and get some hits in on it. doesnt even have to be in the same faction. one of my friends 5 manned it
Diablo 3! Legendaries are ok to have imo, i thnk they just need to implement them better. The problem is, the only way to do that is probably making them a little less legendary, in the sense that they wouldnt b as good and,a little easier to get. Another great marmot though. Keep up the good work!
They should just stop making them, im stuck farming FL for a staff that probably wont' even get used well because the guild im in really isn't that great. wouldn't be a bad idea to have those "psuedo-legendaries"
We didn't have a rogue in our 10m, I was a Prot Warrior. Luckily I talked our dps DK into tanking for me so I could play my rogue, which was my main up until cata. This is the first legendary I'm getting that isn't old content and one thing I really hate is the randomness of the gems. I got some shitty luck and I killed 6 more bosses than another rogue in diff group and he was only 9 gems behind me. Thankfully I got super lucky this week to make up for it, but it is quite frustrating.
They could always give class quests per expansion. Make them really difficult, skill based and scaled to a degree. Add in the transmog Lore mentions and BAM, players wanting more story get it, people wanting to show epeen get it, people wanting better version Legendaries, BAM you get it.
Never liked the idea about spending countless hours, weeks, months, etc. to get one item pointless. Considering its one way for Blizzard to keep subscriptions up for dedicated players. Most people work, why would you want to have another job that only pays back in a virtual world that you'll never have complete ownership in? Just how I see it.
The only thing that's "legendary" about legendary weapons is the long-ass, time consuming, but very fun quest chain. once you finally get the Legendary you feel like you have deserved it. I'm still working on getting Shadowmourne and Val'anyr on my level 80 twink Paladin. I do have Cataclysm and I do have one 85 already. I just really don't like Cata, only thing I liked was the questing, but other than that I loved playing at level 80.
How about one legendary per Expac that you get at the start of the expac and it won't be complete until the final patch of that expac, but with lore in every patch connected to it, like shadowmourne but spread out and building up until the final boss.
What blizzard could do is keep the legendarys and let us transmog them. For people like me who worked really hard getting my thunderfury even if i did pick it up in bc it was just as hard to get it as it was for the 40 mans. They should let us transmog the gear that we worked so hard for.
i hate that myself as a rogue in a 10man group i cant sit out at all since i gotta get the gems which i hate because i feel like im robing ppl from being able to raid i like getting the legendary i just dont put myself up on the priority list
PS: wow is light years ahead of DCUO in quality but the fact that you only ever have to equip something once and the style of what you equiped gets stored in a database permitting you to sell the item and still change the look of any new piece of gear you get for free, you can also change the colour. There are very few good things about DCUO but i just had to mention this one.
I believe that there should only be one legendary per expansion. It should be a bundle of things you must collect and can be constructed in different ways, based on your class. It's available to all classes. It should be implemented in the 2nd to last raid, so people can feel like their getting ready for something epic.
How about that legendary items are quest related that include some lore heavy stuff and that all legendary items scale with level (so shadowmourne - dk and pally only, azzi blades - warrior and rogue only) and so on?
@ANDELE3025 - btw, Shadowmourne was for warriors, paladins and Death Knights only. but yeah I do like your idea. once you finish the LONG-ass quest chain for the legendary I'm pretty sure nobody wants to use it for just one tier of content and then replace it in the next tier. legendaries should scale with your level (kind of like a BoA weapon)
@Peregora23 I know it was W,P and DK only, but it still didnt make sense on warriors and kinda on protection pallys (i wished that they made some ashbringer replica for pallys and a trinket shard of frostmourne for dks - hell even a passive spell youd get that showd that you are imbued with its curse would have been cool, with small blood ghouls/frost wyrms/shadow gargoyles twirling around you while in battle not weird stretched faces that explode after the 19 stacks...).
@Peregora23 tbh shadowmourne was mainly a dk/warrior wep pallies dont need shadowmourne... cause the dps sucked soo if a ret pally got shadowmourne they were a badass and not a shit ret pally
@rcw56 I'm not understanding you. you said Shadowmourne was mainly a DK/Warrior weapon but then you said if a ret pally got shadowmourne they were a badass. explain more plox? :D
i know transmog has had some good feedback but in comparison to what DCUO does it's severly lacking. I mean look at the amount of stuff that looks great that you've had in the past imagine you could just choose any style of sword (or bow, dagger, staff etc...) you've ever come across and transmog it into that. Naturally this could only be done after the feature was implemented but it would be a massive leap from what they're doing now. DCUO character customization is a great example for any game
what about a guild wide quest that can be completed and unlocks the ability to get it for the whole guild, and so it cant be obtained as soon as you get in the guild, put a personal quest chain and/or a required achievement to start the quest. It would resolve the problems of singling a person out in the guild, only the higher end guilds would get it, not required to be at every raid, and overall most the issues that you just described (p.s. i prefer the kitty staffs bliz has made honestly)
they should make it just be a drop in general and make it super hard to get. also they need to make WoW more of a GAME than a job. only reason why i stopped playing. it was a chore and stopped being fun.
see that was my issue when I heard about transmog not working with Legendaries, the reason they said they didn't want to allow that is because they didn't want a bunch of people running around with legendary weapons because then they would feel less special, but that's completely illogical! Like Lore said, the person who has that transmoged legendary STILL had to do all the work required to gain that legendary in the first place, why the hell can't they use it for looks after it becomes useless?
I think there is something to that Queldelar quest. The aspect of it I think could be useful in applying to a legendary is that a legendary weapon is morph-able into different classes roles.
Allows a guild more control in deciding how to distribute the legendary. Maybe you want your guild's main tank to get it, or a holy paladin, or a particular good hunter could be given it. The must not have some game changing proc (ie: 15% healing into an absorb proc/dragonwrath duplicating a spell)
I agree to some stuff but someone like me who does show up for every raid every night on time prepared we deserve something special over the ppl who don't show up every night and aren't as dedicated as us ,and does anyone else think we should have a paladin/warrior tank legendary by now? last one was 6 years ago we have had many dps legendarys and a few healer ones in the past and only 1 tank one i want my legendary shield already XD
About class quests; exactly lore, i miss class quests so much. All the druid shapeshift quests, shaman totem quests, war stance quests, lock pet quests, the lock/pally epic mount questline, priest/hunter 60 weapon questchain. And of course the awesome druid epic flight form quest. Why blizz, why do you hate us so.
There is also an after effect to this too. I am a warlock who is in a guild doing HM progression and in FL we were a 25m HM guild but with a lot of people being burnt out and members leaving we had to size down to a 10m. Unfortunately I am the only caster in this group without a legendary and I feel like my dps is constantly being compared to the other casters we have which were chosen to receive it. In some situations it feels like I am being singled out for this fact.
...and that is why you're supposed to give legendaries to guildmasters and dedicated officers. Problem solved. They're the ones running the guild, doing all the organizing, being in all the (main)raids, and so on and so forth.
I thought that too, but a corporation's primary responsibility is to its shareholders, not the people that use its product or service. If Lore worked for them, his role would be to improve the game as long as it meant making more money (even if the majority of players opposed the changes he made). I'd be surprised if he hasn't been approached by Blizzard, but his independent objective analysis has been great. He also doesn't need to constantly advertise like Swifty.
Also, really like your idea for a personal chain that required raiding. One way to achieve it would be to require some items amounting to some percentage of valor points: like primordial saronite for Shadowmourne could be bought from the vendor or dropped in a raid. Except to ensure the raiding people or rich people don't have too big an advantage, they could be BoP and from VP only. The only big thing is not having the specific on use... Maybe the quest could reward a reuseable temp weap. buff?
I think another cool thing about legendaries is their special proc ability that sets them apart from other items (like trinkets I suppose). Perhaps if one item per tier per role had an on-use but sacrificed itemisation for on use (and were balanced accordingly) then it'd fill that niche (would still be highly desired, but not a necessity).
Also, it's endearing to see an American say that they feel bad for getting something someone else lacks. Surprised the highest comment isn't "Communist!".
Totally agree, also Rhok'delar/Lok'delar and Benediction/Anathema were the perfect implementation of epic feeling, awesome reward and not a gamebreaking loot at the end of it
@liambuurns Hardly... I've had a WoW sub for like 4 years and have all their games registered in Battle.net since they launched the new setup. No beta.

bored to tears of not only farming old content, but seeing the recycled formula blizz uses to keep subs goin month after month after month.... sure your online friends are great. sure you have the addiction habit of logging into wow each day. sure you've had so many great times and great memories in game.. but... seriously its time to stop. blizz doesn't care about how to implement a legendary item to make the game epic. its executives care about how to make the community spend another 15 bucks

i think class based quests the first patch of an expansion to give each person a chance to get a decent weapon to start out with, that always seems to be a struggle for quite a few people.
09seveyw 1 month ago
Hey Allen about the legendary, i really agree with what you said and in addition to that some guilds have kicked a lot of people without legendary staff or even made their old players standby just because a person who has a legendary will do higher dps than the person without the legendary staff. I really hope they change all this crap about legendary staff or weapons

Guild bound legendary...just solved ur problems...
Soleman1989 1 month ago

Diablo 3! Legendaries are ok to have imo, i thnk they just need to implement them better. The problem is, the only way to do that is probably making them a little less legendary, in the sense that they wouldnt b as good and,a little easier to get. Another great marmot though. Keep up the good work!

SamsusAlleria 1 month ago
They could always give class quests per expansion. Make them really difficult, skill based and scaled to a degree. Add in the transmog Lore mentions and BAM, players wanting more story get it, people wanting to show epeen get it, people wanting better version Legendaries, BAM you get it.
silverdante87 1 month ago 21
@silverdante87 Agreed, the class quest per expansion or even 1-2 per tier would be awesome.
I like what the did with rogue one too in that it was back in the worgen starting zone too. Nice to see the zone get some use.

Infernalhazard 1 month ago
The only thing that's "legendary" about legendary weapons is the long-ass, time consuming, but very fun quest chain. once you finally get the Legendary you feel like you have deserved it. I'm still working on getting Shadowmourne and Val'anyr on my level 80 twink Paladin. I do have Cataclysm and I do have one 85 already. I just really don't like Cata, only thing I liked was the questing, but other than that I loved playing at level 80.
Peregora23 1 month ago
How about one legendary per Expac that you get at the start of the expac and it won't be complete until the final patch of that expac, but with lore in every patch connected to it, like shadowmourne but spread out and building up until the final boss.

Why not have a class specific legendary for all classes? This gives multiple players legendary options in a raid group.
Vilelated 1 month ago
What blizzard could do is keep the legendarys and let us transmog them. For people like me who worked really hard getting my thunderfury even if i did pick it up in bc it was just as hard to get it as it was for the 40 mans. They should let us transmog the gear that we worked so hard for.

PS: wow is light years ahead of DCUO in quality but the fact that you only ever have to equip something once and the style of what you equiped gets stored in a database permitting you to sell the item and still change the look of any new piece of gear you get for free, you can also change the colour. There are very few good things about DCUO but i just had to mention this one.
eltonjesus69 1 month ago
I believe that there should only be one legendary per expansion. It should be a bundle of things you must collect and can be constructed in different ways, based on your class. It's available to all classes. It should be implemented in the 2nd to last raid, so people can feel like their getting ready for something epic.
misjif2341 1 month ago
How about that legendary items are quest related that include some lore heavy stuff and that all legendary items scale with level (so shadowmourne - dk and pally only, azzi blades - warrior and rogue only) and so on?
ANDELE3025 1 month ago
@ANDELE3025 - btw, Shadowmourne was for warriors, paladins and Death Knights only. but yeah I do like your idea. once you finish the LONG-ass quest chain for the legendary I'm pretty sure nobody wants to use it for just one tier of content and then replace it in the next tier. legendaries should scale with your level (kind of like a BoA weapon)
Peregora23 1 month ago
@Peregora23 I know it was W,P and DK only, but it still didnt make sense on warriors and kinda on protection pallys (i wished that they made some ashbringer replica for pallys and a trinket shard of frostmourne for dks - hell even a passive spell youd get that showd that you are imbued with its curse would have been cool, with small blood ghouls/frost wyrms/shadow gargoyles twirling around you while in battle not weird stretched faces that explode after the 19 stacks...).
ANDELE3025 1 month ago
@Peregora23 tbh shadowmourne was mainly a dk/warrior wep pallies dont need shadowmourne... cause the dps sucked soo if a ret pally got shadowmourne they were a badass and not a shit ret pally

@rcw56 I'm not understanding you. you said Shadowmourne was mainly a DK/Warrior weapon but then you said if a ret pally got shadowmourne they were a badass. explain more plox? :D
Peregora23 4 weeks ago
i know transmog has had some good feedback but in comparison to what DCUO does it's severly lacking.

It would resolve the problems of singling a person out in the guild, only the higher end guilds would get it, not required to be at every raid, and overall most the issues that you just described (p.s. i prefer the kitty staffs bliz has made honestly)

brusco867 1 month ago
see that was my issue when I heard about transmog not working with Legendaries, the reason they said they didn't want to allow that is because they didn't want a bunch of people running around with legendary weapons because then they would feel less special, but that's completely illogical! Like Lore said, the person who has that transmoged legendary STILL had to do all the work required to gain that legendary in the first place, why the hell can't they use it for looks after it becomes useless?
flameaxel 1 month ago

Lore not working for Blizzard is not working for me.....
pergidium 1 month ago 50
@pergidium
