@13tomabram I agree, that is why GM used a the 6.2 instead of the 7.0. It couldnt handle the boost from the supercharger. Although I do agree that in the days of the old muscle cars there is no replacement for displacement, I don't believe that is the case any more.

I was agreeing with another person who was stating facts to another comment about why the 6.2 was used for the ZR1 instead of the 7.0. Because of the displacement of the 7.0, The cylidner walls are too thin to handle the boost from the supercharger. These facts came from released statements from GM when asked about why a blower wasnt just applied to a 7.0 Z06.

@Dutil35 you are totally wrong, this car has a long fifth gear, it drops rpms alot, you can hear it, fifth gear is the top speed gear on the z06, and on the zr1 its got a mutch shorter 5th gear, and top speed is in sixth gear, and the rpms are at 7000 rpms, not 6200 as in the zr1, you are wrong:)

I could not have said that better myself. People love to get on here and tell us that our cars suck, when half the time they come from a country that doesnt even make cars period. I know our cars have some issues and are not perfect but Covettes (notably Zr-1) is world class whether they like it or not. I have had my Corvette for almost 18 years, it has 241,000 miles on it and its never had the valve covers off. It doesnt burn oil and gets 24 MPG when I dont hotrod it haha.

Perhaps you can explain how GTR (530HP) with Dunlop tires beat the Corvette ZR1 by 4 seconds despite ZR1 having over 100HP, more than 1/4 TON weight savings, bigger tires (equals better grip), stock GoodYear F1 and optional Michelin Pilot PS2 tires (both tires are actually far superior than the best Japanese tire: Bridgestone. Dunlop is crap versus those other 3 tire manufacturers as far as # of racing victories are concerned). What happened? And it happened again in TOP GEAR?
Also in most races in the world, 0-60 MPH (0-100 KPH) is the reality on the street. Z06/ZR1 have better power/weight ratio so they are best at rolling start type of races. GTR is a heavy AWD car that is superior in the take off races. Invest the same on GTR as people invest in ZR1 (cost 2x more than GTR outside North America), and you will get a GTR out of hell (1000HP AMS/Switzer GTR) that burns rubber to the ground from a rolling start. 1500HP GTR is coming from AMS soon!
Common dude, Z06 and GTR are 2 totally different cars. Z06 I think is still much better than a ZR1 in many ways. Unfortunately, for ZR1 fan boys, GTR is in that discussion as well. Z06/ZR1 have far superior power/weight ratio with a very powerful GM built V8 engine. It has plenty of electronic toys to improve its handling, it has traction, abs, etc. A true driver's car (ex: Ultima GTR, McLaren F1) don't have those guys. BIG DIFFERENCE!

I never seen a C6 Z06 blow up and they have been out for 6 years. I seen 2 IN person here in STL blow up going down the track and both were stock as a rock. The 7.0L Z06 runs 11.80@125mph stock. The ZR1 runs 11.30@125mph. Z06 is tried and true boys

@vm2003 one has awd with an electronic launch system while the other one has rear wheel drive. its much easier for a awd drive car to run a faster 1/4 mile because it can get a better launch. i know what video you got this information from and the GTR only had a lower top speed at the end of a 1/4 mile. have that same race but for the distance of half a mile and the GTR would have lost by a lot.

Did you know 2011 Nissan GTR does 0-60 MPH in 2.8-3 seconds flat on standard tires (production car). It crushed ZR1's RING time on damp track conditions.

I live or seas and see this happening all the time. They talk about the ZR1 running 205 crazy. When some owner I know with Z06 running 201 to 208 on the autobahn. But in the US were I am form they stated the speed to be between 194 to 198. Are the Z06 sold in Germany and Dubli faster. So is the ZR1 a great buy when I have been in a Z06 that runs fast then what stated by GM.
They really aren't any faster. The same vettes sold over seas come from the same plant in bowling green, ky. Manufacturer claims constantly get proved wrong. back in the LS1 days they claimed hp ratings in 01-02 f-bodys to be a qaint 325 horses. I have seen several dyno more like 340-350. A lot of GM's claims are constrined by marketing, government regs, and keeping insurance companies happy.
The T56 6 speed and tremmec 6 speed trannies in the z06 are geared to allow speeds up to 228 mph
Scratch 228. I just checked the ratios... For a factory ratioed WS6 Trans Am with a 3.42 rear gear and a T56 6 speed tranny 6 gear would allow the car to run a top speed of 270 mph. Now that's saying you also have enough umph to get the car up to that kind of speed.
Something I would also like to point out is the title of this post says a top speed of 270 kph which is only like 167mp so I'm reckoning that's what the crossfire topped out at lol
Just an FYI: In 2002, GM ran a WS6 around their test track in Arizona with the speed limiter turned off. It hit 170 mph. I have a 2002 TA (non-WS6). I've hit the speed limiter once. I think it's set at 164 mph.

That's why I said if you have enough umph (power) to get one up that fast the factory gearing mathematically will allow a top speed of 270 mph with the engine at 6500 RPMs. GM figured with that kind of gearing carried to the vette they wouldn't have to worry about gear constraints. Everything becomes aero and hp limited from there
you cant really mod a zr1 because its already pushed to the limit because of the 6.2 liter whereas the z06 has plenty of room for improvement with the 7.0 liter.
F/I wise the 6.2 will have higher limits. It has thicker cylinder walls thanks to it's lower displacement. The main reason GM went with the LS3 block in the first place

I always had Germans (BMW, Merc) or Japanese, corvettes are my favorite American car but I wish they did a nicer interior I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for a nicer interior I especially don't like the way the steering looks it looks like a Cobalt steering, but corvettes have amazing performance for the money

@SaintStyn Not true at all. The ZR1 has a forged rotation assembly and the block is stronger. You can put more boost in the ZR1 motor than the Z06.

@13tomabram I agree, that is why GM used a the 6.2 instead of the 7.0. It couldnt handle the boost from the supercharger. Although I do agree that in the days of the old muscle cars there is no replacement for displacement, I don't believe that is the case any more.

@camirocz I never said that a Zo6 needed a supercharger nor did I ever say that a Zo6 was a slouch! I was agreeing with another person who was stating facts to another comment about why the 6.2 was used for the ZR1 instead of the 7.0. Because of the displacement of the 7.0, The cylidner walls are too thin to handle the boost from the supercharger. These facts came from released statements from GM when asked about why a blower wasnt just applied to a 7.0 Z06.

@Dutil35 you are totally wrong, this car has a long fifth gear, it drops rpms alot, you can hear it, fifth gear is the top speed gear on the z06, and on the zr1 its got a mutch shorter 5th gear, and top speed is in sixth gear, and the rpms are at 7000 rpms, not 6200 as in the zr1, you are wrong:)

I love this video...I dont know why some people dont like it. Most Europeans I have met are really cool and are nice to talk to and I respond in kind. I respect all carmakers if they have a car worth having. I am not the Flag waving American that thinks all foreign cars suck, a lot of German, Sweeden and English and other European cars (Japan too) are world class+ well built. I could not have said that better myself. People love to get on here and tell us that our cars suck, when half the time they come from a country that doesnt even make cars period. I know our cars have some issues and are not perfect but Covettes (notably Zr-1) is world class whether they like it or not. I have had my Corvette for almost 18 years, it has 241,000 miles on it and its never had the valve covers off. It doesnt burn oil and gets 24 MPG when I dont hotrod it haha.

Nope! My best bud since my high school days has a GTR (runs some ebay accounts and google adword/adsense shit) and my uncle has a ZR1 (runs a legal and underground car import export business). I am just a part time Trauma/Emergency nurse and part time online sports/stock investor and big time Vette/GTR/and other car fan. I just can't believe how Nissan managed to outmatch Vette on ANY race track with so many performance disadvantages. I WILL BUY BOTH JUST TO SATISFY MY CRAVING

Perhaps you can explain how GTR (530HP) with Dunlop tires beat the Corvette ZR1 by 4 seconds despite ZR1 having over 100HP, more than 1/4 TON weight savings, bigger tires (equals better grip), stock GoodYear F1 and optional Michelin Pilot PS2 tires (both tires are actually far superior than the best Japanese tire: Bridgestone. Dunlop is crap versus those other 3 tire manufacturers as far as # of racing victories are concerned). What happened? And it happened again in TOP GEAR?

Also in most races in the world, 0-60 MPH (0-100 KPH) is the reality on the street. Z06/ZR1 have better power/weight ratio so they are best at rolling start type of races. GTR is a heavy AWD car that is superior in the take off races. Invest the same on GTR as people invest in ZR1 (cost 2x more than GTR outside North America), and you will get a GTR out of hell (1000HP AMS/Switzer GTR) that burns rubber to the ground from a rolling start. 1500HP GTR is coming from AMS soon!

Common dude, Z06 and GTR are 2 totally different cars. Z06 I think is still much better than a ZR1 in many ways. Unfortunately, for ZR1 fan boys, GTR is in that discussion as well. Z06/ZR1 have far superior power/weight ratio with a very powerful GM built V8 engine. It has plenty of electronic toys to improve its handling, it has traction, abs, etc. A true driver's car (ex: Ultima GTR, McLaren F1) don't have those guys. BIG DIFFERENCE!

You Corvette guys make me sick. Everyone on these boards know that Nissan GTR owns Vettes on too many levels, cost less, 10x more functional, better 0-100 KPH times (real street race) and beat ALL the production Vettes on the WORLD CUP / SUPERBOWL Finals of all race tracks called NURBURGRING race track in Germany. Every other Vette race is irrelevant. BTW, GTR has a 3.8L V6 that crushed 7L V8 Z06 and 6.2L LS9 V8 ZR1 on Nurburgring. Z06 was king of cheap sportscars until GTR came in! =)

I hate ZR1. Z06 was nutty fast and still to this day I get smoked by stock C6 Z06's in my modded WS6 trans am that smokes stock C6 base vettes. I never seen a C6 Z06 blow up and they have been out for 6 years. I seen 2 IN person here in STL blow up going down the track and both were stock as a rock. The 7.0L Z06 runs 11.80@125mph stock. The ZR1 runs 11.30@125mph. Z06 is tried and true boys

@vm2003 one has awd with an electronic launch system while the other one has rear wheel drive. its much easier for a awd drive car to run a faster 1/4 mile because it can get a better launch. i know what video you got this information from and the GTR only had a lower top speed at the end of a 1/4 mile. have that same race but for the distance of half a mile and the GTR would have lost by a lot.

Did you know 2011 Nissan GTR does 0-60 MPH in 2.8-3 seconds flat on standard tires (production car). It crushed ZR1's RING time on damp track conditions.

I live or seas and see this happening all the time. They talk about the ZR1 running 205 crazy. When some owner I know with Z06 running 201 to 208 on the autobahn. But in the US were I am form they stated the speed to be between 194 to 198. Are the Z06 sold in Germany and Dubli faster. So is the ZR1 a great buy when I have been in a Z06 that runs fast then what stated by GM.

Manufacturer claims constantly get proved wrong. back in the LS1 days they claimed hp ratings in 01-02 f-bodys to be a qaint 325 horses. I have seen several dyno more like 340-350. A lot of GM's claims are constrined by marketing, government regs, and keeping insurance companies happy.
The T56 6 speed and tremmec 6 speed trannies in the z06 are geared to allow speeds up to 228 mph

Scratch 228. I just checked the ratios... For a factory ratioed WS6 Trans Am with a 3.42 rear gear and a T56 6 speed tranny 6 gear would allow the car to run a top speed of 270 mph. Now that's saying you also have enough umph to get the car up to that kind of speed.
Something I would also like to point out is the title of this post says a top speed of 270 kph which is only like 167mp so I'm reckoning that's what the crossfire topped out at lol

Just an FYI: In 2002, GM ran a WS6 around their test track in Arizona with the speed limiter turned off. It hit 170 mph. I have a 2002 TA (non-WS6). I've hit the speed limiter once. I think it's set at 164 mph.

haha yeah... with a stock LS1 and a lot of straight track that sounds about right.
That's why I said if you have enough umph (power) to get one up that fast the factory gearing mathematically will allow a top speed of 270 mph with the engine at 6500 RPMs. GM figured with that kind of gearing carried to the vette they wouldn't have to worry about gear constraints. Everything becomes aero and hp limited from there

you cant really mod a zr1 because its already pushed to the limit because of the 6.2 liter whereas the z06 has plenty of room for improvement with the 7.0 liter.

F/I wise the 6.2 will have higher limits. It has thicker cylinder walls thanks to it's lower displacement. The main reason GM went with the LS3 block in the first place

@WestlandLynx666 uiteraard, maar dan heb je mijn comment misschien niet goed begrepen. Ik zeg "all things considered" en daarmee bedoel ik o.a. (!!) de prijs/prestatie verhouding. Een Koenigsegg is wel net eventjes wat duurder :-)
Een Z06 is in principe voor iedereen die spaart "haalbaar" en dat met wereldklasse prestaties.
Verder snap ik je opmerking uiteraard wel, een Z06 is natuurlijk geen partij tegen een CCX maar daar gaat het mij dus ook niet om.

i'm buying a Corvette Z06 next year, it will be my First American car. I always had Germans (BMW, Merc) or Japanese, corvettes are my favorite American car but I wish they did a nicer interior I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for a nicer interior I especially don't like the way the steering looks it looks like a Cobalt steering, but corvettes have amazing performance for the money
