It's probably been mentioned but if you press b you can lock your "ball thingy" in place which makes like MUCH easier. Also the little "S" pickups speed you up which can help but also can make it a bit hard to control if you speed up too much! It's a great game with a lot of layers. Just takes a bit of practice ^_^
Well done mate. This thing's absurdly hard...I just picked it up today on the PS2 SNK Selection, and managed to claw my way to stage 2's boss before deciding I'd had enough for the day. I know I keep banging on about it, but if you dig this, you will most likely enjoy Hellfire too. Very similar kind of thing, but with a bit more control.
Btw, picked up Gynoug after watching your video and have to say it's now my favourite MD shooter hands down. Cheers!
@Lorfarius I think it's cos it nails all the balances right. It gets you back in the action right away if you die, it penalises you a little but doesn't leave you standing with a peashooter like R-Type, and once you get the hang of a level, you can normally cane it reasonably well. It's a shame Last Resort doesn't spawn you straight back in when you die/continue. I would probably put it in my top 10 easily if it did. I'm getting better at it though lol. Stage 3!
Are you trying to play at difficulty 8? Ouch! I know its somewhat of a pain to change it on multicarts but you can still. 8 is the default on there I think.
As always a really entertaining video, the developers of last hope were inspired by last resort when developing the game. Last Hope was actually originally released as a very limited neo geo aes cart, with the dc and neo cd versions released later on down the line
That looks great - some brilliant sprites and backdrops in there. The default weapon does look a bit useless...but that's not exactly uncommon for the scrolling shoot 'em up. :P
A classic Neo Geo shooter. I love the style of graphics in the game especially the first level. It's a pretty tough game so you did pretty well considering you hadn't played it.
Oh last resort - amazing amazing graphics. Oh a NeoGeo with a multicart is the only way to be able to play these games in some sort of affordable way...
I played this for the first time the other day (SNK arcade classics vol1 ps2) and i liked the R-type pod style thing..you can lock it into a certain direction with another button and gives gameplay good depth and makes it more fun.
But yes, it is a brutal shooter..i only got to the boss of stage 2, and gave up (for the mean time)..i'll be back!

@zombified660 I love Gynoug, just at the right level of difficulty and something alluring about it as a shooter. Glad you picked it up :)
