Wow Rajasthani musicians dholak, harmonium and Nathaswaram combined with Korean folk music very interesting and that Korean seems to play the Indian fog horn or Nathaswaram pretty well look forward to more.
Wow very interesting looking at the video its hard to tell what it is. There are many wind intruments in India ranging fron the booraga (trumphet)to the(kommu)flute and just like the dholak, and various string intruments they have been part of Indian culture for over two millenia. The wind instruments are given different names dependent on what state your in. The description of the trumphet is similar to that of the Nal Ra Ri. I wonder if they come from the same family.
I also give some more interesting info regarding Indian music. Indian music tends to be very religious in a way. In the ancient times its was used to tell stories of Hindu gods and godesses and tell tales. Then there are the elaborate weddings and numerous festivals again musical instruments are played with a hymn being sung to give blessings and goodluck. Amazingly today that tradition although a bit modified has not died out. The religious bajans are still played as well as lokgeets & gazals.
and they called rock music loud in its day. this video was cleverly paced, and pieced together. nice pan shots. and i don't mean shots of pans. a good cultural snapshot. check out lost horizon for more down-home clips from my good buddy john, a great teacher and a fine man.
