  • Fuck both of these cork sniffers. Instruments are instruments.

  • These guys are copy cat clone ass players who can't listen or think for themselves. tHEY LOVE WHAT PEOPLE TELL THEM IS SUPPOSED TO SOUND GOOD.

  • ANYONE INTERESTED? I HAVE 1957 FENDER DUO SONIC IN VERY NICE CONDITION WITH OREGINAL CASE CALL ME@: 647-977-4661 OR EMAIL ME: funkdrum7@hotmail.com

  • I want to punch this pretentious fuck in the face

  • @Brozotheclown Which one?

  • @TheGargoyleLives the asshat on the right

  • Comment removed

  • "a child's guitar" oh this guy has no idea what a big muff can do to that guitar.

  • "Not exactly a tone machine"? A child's guitar"?

Not when it's plugged into a Big Muff played thru '68 Sunn stack it isn't...

  • DERP

  • Are you guys serious? The guitar was marketed as a 'student' (child's) model. You Gibby guys should know better than to compare it to a Les Paul, Jr. MelodyMaker anyone? Guitar Magazine " Carl = Top 10 Guitar Players in the World". That guy has played with more legendary cats than most of you will ever listen to. You remind me of that old joke...How many guitar players does it take to screw in a lightbult? 1001, 1 to do it and a thousand to say OH, I CAN DO THAT! You guys are funny.

  • Carl Verheyen? LEGEND! Nice showcase of Fender's old 'student' models. Hell, Carl could make a Diddley-Bow sound good. Thanks for posting.

  • lol wtf fell off his guitar?

  • "I call this a child's guitar" "Not a tone machine" I'm glad Houndog Taylor didn't think that way.

  • They are good players but they're SO gay! :\

  • @sohamorrohit lolz

  • hendrix played one of these back in the day

  • These guitars are defnitly ''look'' guitars, The lead singer from The Soft Pack has a Musicmaster and hes shit but he looks awesome playing it.

  • It's hilarious reading all these comments. It was supposed to be cheaper with less options and built for students. Yes they used the word "child" and were perhaps a bit overly critical, but it wasn't built as a tone machine. Just like that amazing champ amp, many of which have water damage and grass staining on the bottom from being used by students. I like the duosonic and I own a guitar from the 20s that was probably played by kids, but it sounds great. Just shut up and play...

  • @PlaidBicycle "Tone Machine" is a terrible term used by snobs. Good tone, like art, is in the eye of the beholder, and these guy's opinion isn't anymore factual than yours or mine.

  • Hey guys. I just picked up a used red Fender duo sonic for free but the problem is that it has has a crack on the joint where the neck rests and so it can't stay in tune at all...what do I do?

  • @commandhtf Give it to me hahaha

  • @commandhtf That's probably why it was free.

  • @slpplexi1969 lol Nevermind. Fixed up the the crack and shim and learned to adjust the intonation. Thank God for Youtube :D

  • You guy should take a look at Tomo Fujita videos, with a Vintage Duo-Sonic... and then tell us that guitar isn't a tone machine... i'll put here a video response playing my 1973 music master as well...

  • 1:49 the bridge or something fell out lol

  • @dmc2dante The ash-tray

  • How come I never see Maroonburst Musicmasters like mine? Is mine really rare or just undesireable? LOL.

  • sounds SO great... regardless of why it was introduced, it has become a GEM in time...

    much like the sears silvertone...

  • can someone please tell me whats the price of a 1993 Fender Duo-Sonic, Please

  • @MetalInstrumentals you might be able to find one for about 400 or 500

  • @pridefighter93 Thanks alot, i dint know it had that price maybe ill keep it i was going to trade it at guitar center for something much more cheaper

  • This guy looks like the kind of douchebag that expects every guitar less than $2000 a "Child's Guitar."

  • Child's guitar? What the hell is wrong with you?

  • Sorry Carl, but the student models didn't last? Musicmasters started in '56 and didn't end until at least '80, and then Bullets and imports came along, so they never really went away. That's a pretty good hall if you ask me. Also, most of them are 24" with 22.5" scale being an option on some models.

  • fucking gibson fanatics....dont get me wrong, i do like the ES models, and nothing beats AC\Dc screaming out of a SG, but.....childs guitar?! no tone?! WTF?!?!?!?!!?

  • Is that a Super Showman in the background, the big solid state one?? You should demo that one, I'd really be interested to hear what it sounds like. Great playing by the way.

  • Wow. Idiots. Are they Gibson fanboys or something?

  • jimi made a duosonic sound pretty good....

  • hey the gibson bible guy

  • HAHAHA ......... Carl Broke it 1:51!

  • its all in who plays the damn thing! those guitars sound great to me. aint nothing wrong with a music master, duo sonic, or mustang.

  • died out?! they made them up until the early 80's...reissued them in the 90's and now theres a squier reissue of almost that EXACT guitar.

  • Childs guitar, yes - adults guitar HELL YES, my dad has a 59 duo-sonic just like the one in this video 22 1/2 scale & narow at the nut, However they are fender all the way through & even adults with large hands love playing these guitars, I have a 63 musicmaster 24 in scale & when I was young I played in a bar band, I was not real good but I met a lot of really good musicans they had hot rod strats & les pauls, but lot's of times they wanted to take my guitar to play at there gigs.

  • which champ model is dave using?

  • fu...ive got one...it RULES.... have some fucking respect...i may be 12 but i can fuckin pwn...duo sonic are crap but the champ amps are quite powerful but just SO simple...pain in the arse to equalise

  • are these two bein paid by gibson to make fenders sound like shite. because these wee guitars are awsome and im thinking of buying one dont bother listn to what they say could someone post a good video showing clean and some decent rock

  • this is the guy who says Fender Cornoado sucks..lets hang him and burn hims on the cross..mob rules!!

  • You have absolutely no idea how wrong most of the info in this video really is.

  • Man, those two are so worng...and its a shame coming from carl who its a great great payer, those guitars where made with the same quality that strats and teles and if you change just a few things you could have a really great surprice and have the real thing, not kidding , i have a a 59 , rosewood, two pickups, i just replaced the brdge for a hardtail strat one and the sound its AMAZING.

  • back in the days it didn't wort a crap, now you pay shitloads of money for it

  • the duo sonic first sounds like a grinder

  • Also great reviews in respect to Fender history showing alot of there historic amps "but example : Jimi ,Clapton , all the great used a Fender Champ Amp"!!! To this day still ask Jeff Beck his new CD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • beg to differ. my 59 sounds better than that...maybe someone changed out the pickups....mine sounds incredible, the action is buttery and the intonation is perfection. they were wonderful handmade guitars by the same people who made the strats. same pickups, too. but beware on ebay.

  • CHILDS GUITAR??????

Man I would KILL to have a duo sonic and i would kill even MORE for a MUSICMASTER!

  • not a tone machine you say, please man come on dudes, tone machines there are my young padiwan learners, alot to learn my jedis have, alot to learn. may the force be with you!

  • hahhahahahahahahahhaahaahahaah it sounds so rubbish.. i want it! :)

  • jimi played a 59 duo sonic and i bet he played the hell out of it

that makes me think its not a very childish guitar

  • bad played

  • 1:52 classic

  • i'm thinkin of getting the Squier Duo-Sonic has anyone played that?

  • @jorghad6 , i own one. For 300 dollars, its a great valur. Its a little small, but the depends on your size preferences. It has both a great clean and distorted tone

  • @Twinhit : The beginning lick in Layla was played through a Vibro Champ. Awesome little tone machine that you can find pretty cheap on fleabay. Great things sometimes come in little packages!

  • "Children's guitars", please. These two turdburglers suck ass.

The Squire Duo Sonics made in China with the gold anodized pickguards are pretty cool for less than $300.

  • i almost threw up when he started playing...

but thanks for the info anyway.

  • how I would like them to hear them play these guitars over a blackface, tweed or something like that.. to get a better impression of the tone, you know? I think those small amps don't justify the real tone.

also, I did not expect they would stigmatize those guitars as ''children guitars'', I think they have to give it a chance.. i would certainly like Fender to re-issue the duo-sonic, made in MIM or MIJ maybe? :D

  • what a fcuk they talking about? child guitars? this asshole is dumbfuck. David Byrne from Talking Heads was playing at fender duo sonic, and that was nothing kiddie in his sound! Fender champ is awesome amp, and reissue is great too, wich I had. And as for soloing, guy at left is alright, byt dumb ass on the right annoying playing

  • they were ca;;ed "childs guitars" because of the size of the cuitars neckas and the short scales.

  • These are not just for kids! A light guitar with good twang, what is wrong with that? You just gotta give different guitars a chance.....

  • That was pretty cool.

Sounds real good for "kiddie" guitars.

But then, it's all in the hands of the player.

A guitar is either an ax or firewood, your choice.

Back in the day, Clapton played Layla through a Champ I think.

  • hendrix's first fender was a duo-sonic

  • he makes that "childs guitar" sound great

  • It's all in the fingers!

  • Those guys are douche bags.

  • only guitar snobs would call it a childs gtr, ture nuff was designed for "students and younger players" it has the same construction and quality as a strat or tele from the same period, like a lespaul jr that was a student gtr too, Ive played some 50s musicmaster and they just flat out rock, one pickup seems limiting but because of the short scale the voice is different its more versitile than a LPjr believe it or not,and because such a small light gtr theyre a blast to play

  • @fraterlucifer888 what a load of BS, calling someone a snob becasue he thinks a smaller guitar is for a child, well in a sense it is a child's guitar, a jn strat is of similar size, U would not buy a one of these then go play it at your local gig, also U flat out do not deserve to b in the same room as carl, he is one of the best guitarists in the world period, if he choose to be in a lime light band, he would stand out asap, he chooses to work for film crews recording music instead & exabitions

  • @UKToneKing oviously youre just stupid, go back to your musicians friend schecter that you obviously play(oops Im being a guitar snob)seriously tho,,,,, have you even played a vintage guitar? ever even seen one, the feel, vibe and tone of any student model of vintage is superior to just about anything being made now, Ive seen jrs and musicmasters with brazilian rosewood fingerboards, think about it, not everybody can afford a 50s-60s strat,so if somebody wants as much fender as they can afford?

  • @fraterlucifer888 I own 3 vintage amps as it happens, blonde and silverface bassman, and a super reverb, so yer I do own vintage, I have played plenty a vintage guitar, my friend owns a 1968 jazz, and I also know a collector who has many pieces, I work for a living, so I get to buy nice things, unlike U who is a bum on his moms couch, have a nice day U bum lol p.s, if U message me again, I promise I am not reading it, it is getting deleted, so go fck yourself U bum lmfao at U U bum

  • @fraterlucifer888 Also I know U don't own anything vintage, because your a first class bum, doubt if U own anything other than aria or squire lol shit U probably own a used squire, get a job U bum, fcking work for a living instead of bumming off tax payers, god U trailer park boys wind me up, can not see why U would want to pick up government checks all your life, U must be sick of buying all the cheap offer foods rather than brands, or well guess that's what U get 4 being a bum u bummer

  • @fraterlucifer888 yipee ki aaa motherfucker

  • @UKToneKing lol, what you dont know, lol I have enough fine fine vintage and custom gear to make me happy,no use insulting those of us who work for a living if I scratched your shallow ego,,,,IM SORRY,lol bet you dont have a narrow panel tweed tremolux tho lol or a custom shop les paul, not to mention a 1910 washburn parlor guitar ,I could go on but I also own a very very nice 65 musicmaster 2 that I gig with, dont comment if you dont gig my friend and stop being a baby, lol

  • @fraterlucifer888 I own a small plumming business, which pays very well, so if I wanted any of the instruments U own, I could go out & buy them today, but I am not a fan of washburn, & I would not go out any buy something I did not like, or was not going to play, everything I own gets used a lot, I have a bandmaster on route as well, non reverb, I am in the process of getting a 59 bassman, if the deal goes ahead that is, U could have been another kid, is why I was rude, lots R kids on here

  • @UKToneKing sallright, but I do have to say my washburn is sweet , its a parlor guitar and not anything like washburn makes now probly by the same ppl who made lyon and healy its brazilian rosewood back and sides,I buy guitars mainly for the tone,I dont have disposable income but I spend alot on good quality instruments,Iv been playing since I was 10 and Im 42 now,lol I own too many guitars, the main ones I play tho are ones I built from warmoth parts, alot of us work very hard to get our gear

  • @UKToneKing Ive been around and dealt with vintage dealers and buyers, and alot of ppl have more money than brains when it comes to vintage guitars, and alot of times rather than talk gear, they want to see youre checkbook first,a guitar that nobody plays is just furniture, and I get alil testy when I hear ppl talking badly about what might be one guys favorite guitar or only guitar, I am picky about my own guitars, but I used to give lessons and you just dont say "Thats only a childs guitar"

  • also , carl might be the greatest picker this side of heavens little acre but,,,, the man seems to have a decent sized ego,lol and he plays for supertramp, personaly not a fan and i dont remember any really smokin guitar in an supertramp ive ever heard, lol ,Ive met lots of famous and semifamous and pro musicians, the ones who are really really great are the ones who dont float around on ego they encourage anybody to play whatever guitar they have

  • @fraterlucifer888 lol carl is a multi million air, U think his ego got in the way of people topping up his banck balence, he has worked on the star wars movies ect anyway U can say what U like about him, but he is the rich one, and the one people like, your one person, the majority of people like him, they must, as he is very very successful,

  • @fraterlucifer888 My friend has a hire business, he does sound equipment, through that I have met lots of famous people, some of whom were nice, others dicks,

  • what fell out of his hand @ 1:50

  • bridge cover

  • the ash tray cover for the bridge, because it had tele style saddles

  • i don't like when some one calls this a "child guitar" it is for any one who digs the tone and feel of the instrument.

It may be a shorter scale length but if you have small hands or like to play fast position shifts but a longer scale guitar is too difficult to get those stretches this is great.

A lot of guitarists use shorter scale length.

Gibson use 24.75 22 frets and some like steinberger use this scale with 24 frets making the scale length feel even smaller even thought it is the same.

  • I love how they come off as assholes to those guitars. "This is a childs guitar."

  • I'm diggin' that grungy 50's overdrive tone!

  • @gorblimey61

    You're sarcastic, right?

  • No. If you listen to chicago style blues you'll often hear that ratty kind of break up from a little amp turned all the way up.

  • It's really the sound of the duo sonic that is so unique. You don't really hear it unless you compare to another guitar. You can really hear it in person. Plug it into a Vox AC15 and it's the most amazing jangle and chime you'll ever hear from a guitar.

  • need this guitar!

  • It looks like a childs guitar...

  • Childs guitar my ass! The short-scale Fender guitars are the most sought after guitars by hardcore fender fans nowadays! I mint condition artifact would cost you just as much as a Gibson ES 175.

  • i just got back from the guitar store, and tried out a squire "classic vibe" duo sonic, made in china. i was quite surprised with the weight (alder i think), feel and tone! i just bought a american standard tele and now im wishing i shouldve tried the duo sonic first.

  • Bellends.

  • SRV used to warm up on a duo sonic back stage

and Rory Gallagher played one on some songs on tour and it sounded amazing

  • Child's guitar????????.

I have a Music Master ,a telecaster and a strat and I really love the music master the most, it plays so nice the 22.5"...

It's a Fender and it sounds like a Fender, have some respect!

    from Belgium

  • @TheEdleviud These guys just have a very specific and sometimes outdated mode of thinking.

  • @TheEdleviud Yes, you own a child's guitar. Get over it and have some respect for the opinions of others if you're capable. And try having that respect with only one loser-name in the future there Captain Obvious.

  • ....A "child's guitar" .....how fitting for someone who plays like a beginner.

you'll never be known as anything but a hack...and you KNOW IT

  • dude...he was definitely wrong about that particular part, but carl verheyen is a monster player...show some respect

  • I've been playing a 64 Duo-Sonic for a while. I'm in a 50's and 60's cover band and I love the sound and versatility of it. I actually like playing it better than the strats that I have owned. If it's a "child's guitar" then just call me a child!

  • "...a child's guitar..." what a fucking snob.

    carl's a dork anyway.

in the right hands, these guitars sound great, either with distortion (a la cobain), for some funky Fender-y tones, or clean, and they have a very unique tone.

it's now what you play, it's how you play it.

  • Dude...Carl is a great guitar player. If you don't agree with him that's fine but don't be putting him down...The guy rips.

  • you missed my point, chief.

  • I have a 93 Duo Sonic and it's a tone machine.

  • Clowns!!

  • Clearly these chaps have no clue what they are talking about. These guitars were made with the same wood and pick-ups as they full scale counterparts (flat pole piece pick-ups). They don't seem very up on the actual history of Fender and their product evolution as well. These guitars were made for many years. The Duo Sonic was eventually supplanted by the Mustang in 1967 and the Musicmaster was made until 1981.

  • childs guitar? not a tone machine? ...put that wood in the hands of a slinger and well see how dinky it is ....sure its meant for kitties but its got a sound all its own and where theres a sound...theres a fucker squeezin hell out of it

  • Carl Verheyan is a beast. These things sound like shit.

  • that's a cool raw exciting jam

  • again these are salespeople. i used to sell clearance furniture that would fall apart as we rolled it to the customers car. once we got the money no problem.

  • nice though... it could be nice just to have one xD

  • WOW, IS COOL, FORM MEXICO CITY.

  • I have a fender duo sonic. I replaced the crappy 22inch scale neck with a full scale 1982 fender Bullet neck, maple. With a longer scale neck this guitar is way more stable. also i replaced the pick ups with original 82 bullet pickups. Sweet set up.

  • so Duo Sonic's can take any type of fender neck?

  • your mom can take any type of fender neck

    :)

  • 1:53 it's really funny

  • i laughed so hard reading that rofl.

  • "Kids guitar?" Its about the talent of the player, Dizevo's video response demonstrates that much better than this video...'nuff said.

  • look at me, i have a 2000 b.c. les paul that was made of the seed of satan. any other guitar to me is either a piece of shit or a child's guitar.

  • haha what broke off the guitar was that the whammy bar?

  • you should watch the video again. and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again.

  • oh jeez the bridge??

  • it was the ashtray cover, not the bridge.

  • lols these guys got a lot of crap for this vid

  • Take it these guys never listened to the Pillows

  • Also my '65 Musicmaster would kick their asses.

  • Nobody listens to the pillows

    Nobody cares about the pillows

  • Lots of people listen to the Pillows

Lots of people care about the Pillows

Maybe you should listen to the Pillows and you might like them too. As opposed to jumping on a band you've never really given a fair shot.

And technically the guy in the Pillows plays a Mustang, but all 3 of those guitars are more or less the same guitar.

  • I`m not going to dis these guys they are great at what they do. I will give a different opinion as the owner of a 1965 Musicmaster that this is a TONE MONSTER when in the right hands. I can get a great tone on R and B songs like Al Greens stuff with my instrument. Walter Becker from Steely Dan played a musicmaster on the track "F.M." and nailed that solo. The Talking Heads had a lead guitarist around 1983 that played one and Rundgren used one onstage in the 1970s. They have a very woody tone.

  • if i ever find my way into a room with so many amazing amps and guitars, i would never leave...

  • Wrong kind of guitar players to demo this stuff - can't resist doing the speed fret work (in case we didn't get the picture that they are 'real' players after all) no idea what rock'n'roll is.

    sorry.

  • that sounded like eric clapton for a moment

  • good ears!..... clapton loves the fender champ, though he doesn;t use one anymore live or for recording he once held it in the highest regard. I use one as my main amp through a 2X10 cabinet and it's unbelievable.

  • :D thx

  • ...only worse! LOL

  • These guys do consistently bad videos. I own a Music Master and it's one of the best tone machines I've ever played. In fact, I'm kind of amazed at how bad they were able to make two great amps and killer guitars sound. A child's guitar? Well then I guess they are perfect for you idiots.

  • They just want ibanez type guitars with floyd rose tuning systems in them so they can rip off wanky solo's to us all. That's usually how guys who work in guitar shops are... not all of them but most of them. You know if it ain't got strat or les paul on it they probably will never trully love it.

  • @blownglasslide It's easy to say a cheap product sucks when you have the money to buy an expensive one and be a total snob about it.

  • ha ha the childs ashtray fell off.....

  • I think you you boys missed the boat here. These are amazing sounding instruments that set up very well and sound killer. It's true that they didn't last in the market but lookit the "kids guitars" we have now. Can you say Squire? I'll take my musicamaster, thanks.

  • I'd love to get an old Musicmaster Or Duo-Sonic. They are more than a "child's guitar"

you snobs. These were the guitars of the New York New Wave, David Byrne, Patti Smith. Remember the thing she wrote in the insert that came with the Easter album ? "Got my FDS, Fender Duo Sonic."

  • i just played a squier one today. even taht was good. squier make some decent instruments. i was amazed of the quality. however squier used to make some guitars out of plywood. i dont think they do anymore. the duosonic i played today felt every bit as good as my fender usa strat.

but i still prefer good old fender USA. yes im a snob

u cant rip them appart coz they say its a student guitar. to b honest it prob was designed to be so. the shorter scale reali hints this. nothing wrong with that.

  • yea that sucked

  • WTF??

These guys can barely play and those amps are shit!

    "a child's guitar" - yr kidding right?

  • Amps are shit? Are you kidding.. They sound fucking awesome!

  • old fender tweeds are the nicest amps around!

However, they are sought after more by hamonica players. but a great sound.

Maybe not as load as a marshall, but a hell of a lot nicer sounding.

  • They sound so THIN! Horrible midrange only tone. My 1964 Duo-sonic sounds rich and warm through my Fender Twin. I think they are deliberately making these fine guitars sound bad...

I bought mine because Patti Smith used one!

    :-)

  • i have a 1965 fender musicmaster II. its red and i have the case and amp

  • What a train wreck!

  • 24" seems small and I've got baby hands practically. I'd love to try 22.5". Must be a crazy feeling.

  • i love those guitars!

  • Come on...Musicmasters and Duos are great vintage guitars on a budget....watch the other videos of the left guy...give him a Burst and a old Marshall and he still sounds mushy...just my 2 cents...

  • wtf are they talking about alot of people like the duo-sonic

  • I hate how they try to make them sound bad. they're awesome guitars.

  • damn straight. these guys play like cunts. i own a duo sonic and it is great.

  • man that other guy sucks balls, lol

  • Duo Sonics have nice pickups. =]

  • The guy on the left is a HORRIBLE guitar player! Carl must be laughing his ass off while he's playing...

  • Aww, come on man, Dave is not HORRIBLE. I've heard more guitar players sound worse than him than I have heard that sound better than him. How's that for a lousy sentence? But, you know what I mean.

  • how can they sit there and complain about what a terrible guitar those are and gey bad ass vintage tone like that?I want to go back to around 1969,buy a few mustangs,a few used duos, musicmasters, broncos, some silvertones, danos and get all of the champs I can find.I saw an old ad for a silvertone single pickup amp in case model.for $18!!!fender should start reissueing duos, musicmasters, broncos, and mustangs as "student guitars",by student guitar I mean under $300.but thats impossible.

  • I noticed that Squier released a version of the Duo Sonic II (two pup-version) today. Desert-sand with gold guard, should cost 299$.
