  • Thanks for posting this tribute! May Phil Carey rest in peace....always loved him on OLTL

  • Love the music.

  • I met Phil Carey Back in the 60s or early 70s. He was making a Ford commercial. It was a really fun experience. lilstar.

  • @lilstar371 I am happy for you that you me this wonderful man and actor.

  • i havent watghed soaps in a while iwas shocked to find out mr carey has died i loved the soaps as i was coming up he was agreat actor and probably like a real father to some of the cast of oltl may he rest in peace thank you asa for what you did for daytime tv god bless your family

  • Phil Carey will him well. I am glad the writers never watered him down like they did with Edward Q on GH or Adam and Palmer on AMC.

    Thanks again for this tribute.

  • As a little kid I always had a crush on Asa now mind you this was back in the 1990's but I thought he was the coolest person

  • Loved the pics and clips of my favorite pain in the but curmudgeon, Asa Buchanan! Phil Carey was great in the role and truly a remarkable actor.

  • Asa was like a family member to me as are all of the characters on One life to live. I grew up watching this soap since I was 6, I am now 26. I was as sad to hear of his death on the soap and in real life as I would be about someone in my family dying. Watching the episode of his death and funeral still makes me cry and its been years :'( He is and always will be missed by me. RIP Phil Carey <3

  • Love Peabo Bryson singing the theme song!!!!

  • Awwww! This made me smile,. laugh and cry, all at the same time. Thank you for posting this.

My goodness Phil Carey was a handsome young man back in his day.

  • Was that an AMC crossover S/L with David Canary as Adam on OLTL?

  • @annie24ism Yes it was. The plot was not perfect but it was nice seeing Asa and Adam Chandler in the same scene.

  • Phil Carey was a wonderful actor. He was great as Asa.

  • He played Archie's gay friend on season 1 of All in the Family. Archie the bigot thought Mike's four eyed friend was a "fag" but it turned out to be his football tough guy friend Asa. Good episode. Luke from GH was Mike's friend.

  • Phil Carey was Daytimes J.R. Ewing and he did it better than anyone else as Asa Buchanan! He could have rivaled Victor Newman easilly!

  • I just saw him for the first time on an old re run from the 60's tv series The Rifleman...what a terrific actor....

  • He died 18 months after "Asa" did on the show, and only a few months after the real life death of the actor who played "Asa's son, Clint".

Phil Carey also was in the episode of All In The Family when Kelsey's Bar banned gays, and Phil was this tough looking friend of Archie's that they didn't know was gay.

  • I loved Asa...he was a mean ornary old thing but NOBODY messed with the Buchannans...LOVE YOU PHIL>>>>I pray that God welcomed you into his kingdom. You were a tall mighty man...thanks for the memories

  • OLTL will never, ever be the same without Asa... Thanks for putting together this tribute... he was the show for almost 30 years! I loved OLTL--but it hasn't been the same since quite some time...

  • oltl will never be the same

  • Phil Carey was an excellent actor. He played Asa to perfection. He joins th elist of those few Hollywood celebrities who went from movies to daytime, including Joan Bennett of DARK SHADOWS and Ruth Warrick of ALL MY CHILDREN. They made TV a little better for all of us to enjoy. I hope his survivors know how much we enjoyed for his work.

  • he was so handsome. I wish more men were like the man he portrayed

  • I miss him everyday in Llanview.

  • He didn't look like he was dying when last appeared in December. It's kind of ironic he died 18 month after his character. I wonder how it would've been if he would've been on the show when he died. I wonder how sick he was when he decided not to go on recurring status.

  • Great job!

  • He was a good looking young man.

  • I loved the music!

  • Hes one of a kind.

  • Great tribute to a great man. Carey was great as Asa... loveable but yet could be a ass... God bless and as that song goes " Go rest high on that mountain

  • OK so look... I'm a 40 year old black man who as a child didn't have a choice as to what I wanted to watch on TV in the 70's and early 80's so my mother (a stay at home mother) watched soaps and I remember not really liking him. Even as a kid I thought he was a mean old SOB! But he was always there kinda like an uncle you grew up with. I was shocked to hear he passed and had to write this because I....... Kinda feel like I lost a family member..... I'll miss this guys presents...RIP

  • There was something about him that he was just so funny.

  • I remember when the Buchanans first came to Llanview. Cowboys on daytime tv! Yahoo! Love Phil Carey, his is missed.

  • Did the show do anything other than a little stint? For either Phil or Clint?

  • Well Clint isn't dead just the actor who portrayed him,he was recast. As for Asa no they did a very rushed 2 episode arc that was more insulting than anything else.

  • Thanks for posting. Have been a fan of Phil Carey since his Hollywood days

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • Wonderful tribute. Phil Carey was great as Asa Buchanan.

  • hat was really beautiful

  • Thank you so much for posting this beautiful and moving tribute. I grew up watching "One Life" and still watch til this day. The passings of Phil Carey and Clint Ritchie were like losing two old friends. They will be sorely missed.

  • wonderful tribute of Phil Carey--R.I.P

  • --ohh and thanks for the song--lol--good flashback! great memories of early OLTL!

  • Thanks for the beautiful tribute. I have watched One Life to Live since the early 70's when Vickey was Nickey. It was truly heartbreaking to hear of the deaths of Clint Ritchie and now Phil Carey--I am also an avid western fan. My heart goes out to not only their families but the cast and crew of OLTL who will most assuredly mourn their passing too. May they all rest in peace and head to that grand stage in heaven-- they will be so sorely missed.

  • RIP Phil Carey..may god be with you and your family in my prayers.......

  • thank you your video was great ive watched the show forever he will be missed

  • Does anyone know for sure if Phil Carey smoked? His voice sounded like he did.

  • He had lung cancer. The 2 family members that I knew that had lung cancer all sounded like Phils did. They too died.

  • that was really beautiful i am crying. that is one of my favorite songs too.

  • great video, wayy better than the one i made for asa buchanan/phil carey!! awesomee job.

  • Phil and Clint both dying this year, it's so sad. They will both be missed, thanks for this video. I loved Asa!

  • I cried during this. Phil was a fabulous actor and Asa is one of my all time favorite soap charactors, RIP Phil and "So Long Pa.

  • He helped my parents get together. They're gone now and so is good ol' Phil! Glad my folks will get to thank him once again!

  • The Soap world has lost a legend. There will never be another Phil Carey or another Asa Buchanan.

  • I grew up on all the daytime ABC soaps. Just hearing the old theme songs bring tears to my eyes. Asa was unforgettable. There'll never be another.

    RIP Asa and Clint.

  • I just heard the news, what a shock. He was a great actor and a great person. The Asa character was in a class of its own. I'm was glad he was able to come back to the role one last time for 40th anniversary show last year. He had a long amazing career in acting, I'm glad to had been lucky to see some of it. May he truly rest in peace.

  • Thank you, thank you so much for doing this tribute to this amazing man and actor. There could never be another man to portray Asa as Phil Carey did. I absolutely idolized him and cried my whole way through this.
