A lot of iaido techniques are like that. I dont know much about battojutsu, but its very similar to iaido. Keep in mind that realistically, blood is highly corrosive and sheathing your sword before you wipe the blade off with a cloth can be really bad for your sword. Flicking the blade wont get off all the blood, only some. Im not saying iaido and battojutsu arent realistic, they just dont incorporate cleaning the blade in their kata.

Actually, all Iaido waza start and end with the sword in the saya (scabbard). Because of this, they all also involve chuburi, movements designed to flick or wipe the blood/bits of flesh/etc. from the blade. While you would obviously want to clean the blade more thoroughly as soon as possible if not immediately, that is how the waza are taught.
