@Xoeclyus what i do have is a seagate 2tb external that i use to backup what i'm not using or going to be using so as to save space on the system itself. if i were to replace the internal HDD with a bigger & faster one, my first move would be to buy a proven effective cooling device to supplement the standard cooling system to help with the extra load. but that's just me, i don't like spending 300 bucks every year or so replacing a system so i tend to lean on the careful side.

@VixMusicProduction There's nothing wrong with that, It won't damage anything trust me. The light goes out here all the time in my community while i'm playing and its still working like a charm. However, it could mess up your installed games on the hard drive though as that happened to me once and i had to re-install it.
Can anyone tell me how to disconnect the slim part with the power button from the board....I can't tell what they are doing with the ribbon and where it connects. Also is there a trick to the power supply coming apart? I found 1 screw that I took out but can't seem to get the two black plastic halves apart! Thanks!

thanks for the vid, i only want to verify if my Canadian bought ps3 slim 320 gig is in fact dual voltage so I can use it in Europe where i'm moving to. many forums state that even though the sticker on outside of the unit states 120 in fact if you open it up it will say 120-240 making it universal voltage. i don't want to open it up and void the warranty, can anyone confirm if all ps3 slims including brand new models currently on the market are dual voltage? thx for any help
if you feel the top part of the back of your ps3 slim, it is very hot sometimes because its only the power supply, if they make the power supply external the ps3 would make no heat.
I dissamble it today and cleaned it also, everything ok, but somehow while i was comiling it 2 screw left, and i check everything, and i didnt see where they belong. Strange.
ps3 runs so hot im worried i dont understan why they didnt make it where it will run cooler they could make it where air will enter n exit the unit faster so it will be cooler but the holes or vents are so small no air sirculates i think they made it to die within a certain time but thats just me

I think the PS3 is better built than the Xbox 360. I opened up an Xbox 360 and they put the disk drive over the GPU heat sink *facepalm* gee I wonder why the GPU overheats so much >.<
@KingKehra yeah, the original xbox 360 is probably the worst designed console of the decade, but the new one is much better. They managed to combine the cpu + gpu onto one die, under one heat spreader, with one symmetrical heatsink, and one large, efficient fan, much better airflow in general, built in 802.11n wireless, quieter disc drive, HDD with decent capacity, ability to use optical audio + HDMI without adapter, more USB ports, etc, etc

@ 2:38 you can see exactly how "well" SONY applied the thermal compound to the two chip sets, a word of advice to anyone that sees this video do yourself a favor and go get some ANTEC Silver 5 at Staples, Frys's or any computer hardware store and apply it to both chips with a nice even surface to save your PS3 from frying itself like mine. Now dont get me wrong i had an original 80gb when the first came out and that lasted me 4 years before this happened

@TeHFooL123 the best thing to do is do some of the steps here and removing from the cover to the blu-ray reader once remove try to shake GENTLY until the coin comes out... And then comes in the fact that console games are rarely larger than 8.5GB in size..
But then again, the motto of the xbox-360 was that it would be cheap to buy, but very expandable. If the PS3 would feature a DVD player instead of a BR player, the price would drop about 75 USD... (and about 150 USD when it was launched)
@MOBMakaveli Ya, it wasn't a big deal at first because most games only used about 7-8 gb of memory, but now we see how alot of games like Mass Effect 2, Halo 3: ODST, and Final Fantasy XIII all require multiple discs while PS3 does not. In the long run, Blu-ray has helped the PS3.
@RockSmithStudio I have to correct you there halo:3 odst game is on one disc the second disc is all the maps and the halo 3 multiplayer game. and I wouldn't say that blu-ray has helped ps3 as it's still in last place behind everything including the ds and psp. and I don't find it a problem to get up and change the disc during game and multiple disc 360 games have been there since the beginging but they are few and far between.
@MOBMakaveli the only reason why they are built better is because newer console if Microsoft were to build them better it would cost more and everybody would be pissed because of newer look (possiable) and hardware features.
@MOBMakaveli i defo agree with the build quality of the insides, but dual layer dvds are perfectly fine for the moment as games dont take up much space.

@dairydave96 Should play ps1 and they are also on psn but not ps2 games but alot of ps2 game are being remade for ps3.. just get used ps2 if you want that for ps2 games and ps3 is best blu ray player.

@ 2:38 you can see exactly how "well" SONY applied the thermal compound to the two chip sets, a word of advice to anyone that sees this video do yourself a favor and go get some ANTEC Silver 5 at Staples, Frys's or any computer hardware store and apply it to both chips with a nice even surface to save your PS3 from frying itself like mine. Now dont get me wrong i had an original 80gb when the first came out and that lasted me 4 years before this happened

@xdeadwaterx lol you thinks thats bad dude my xbox has shitty thermal paste ever made when they are stock (most reason for RROD cuz of wicked heat) the ps3 have a better system for transferring heat Microsoft needs to fix that in the new xbox console if they made one i hope if they do its not the xbox 720 because thats stupid in my opinion maybe xbox 360v2 or xbox 360²

i got a problem today i play modern warfare 2. in the middle of the game it got frozen. and my ps3 shut down. then i try to get the disc out and it dindt get out so i turn it around and fall. when i insert it again it was like empty space never recive it just fall inside. Now every time i turn it on it ejects but never recive

@TeHFooL123 the best thing to do is do some of the steps here and removing from the cover to the blu-ray reader once remove try to shake GENTLY until the coin comes out... (or just send it to Sony) lets talk live have AIM or Yahoo I can do it with you(no homo) every step of the way *I am not responsible for any damages that YOU has made or in other words you made a mistake so be carefull on half disassembling your PS3*

The PS3 is alot better built then the Xbox 360! i think thats the xbox's downfall! that and the fact they are still using duel layer dvds!

But then again, the motto of the xbox-360 was that it would be cheap to buy, but very expandable. If the PS3 would feature a DVD player instead of a BR player, the price would drop about 75 USD... (and about 150 USD when it was launched)

@MOBMakaveli Ya, it wasn't a big deal at first because most games only used about 7-8 gb of memory, but now we see how alot of games like Mass Effect 2, Halo 3: ODST, and Final Fantasy XIII all require multiple discs while PS3 does not. In the long run, Blu-ray has helped the PS3.

@RockSmithStudio I have to correct you there halo:3 odst game is on one disc the second disc is all the maps and the halo 3 multiplayer game. and I wouldn't say that blu-ray has helped ps3 as it's still in last place behind everything including the ds and psp. and I don't find it a problem to get up and change the disc during game and multiple disc 360 games have been there since the beginging but they are few and far between.

The PS3 had a bad start, but now, the more advanced tech starts to pay off.
Both in graphics and in the DVD issue, the ps3 has already surpassed the 360.
And the Slim PS3 is just genius.
