There were actually three videos in the show. "Upside Gown Guitar Solo/The Hand", "Screams In The Night" and (the only one I haven't found on You Tube), "Bad Attitude". I have all the master and work tapes in my basement. I produced these when I was very young. It was nice to find these on You Tube as it's been many years since I've seen them! I thank the person who put the Hellion videos up. You bought back some good memories ;-)
the hand is absolutely my favorite all time song....i first heard it on a cassette i bought back in the late 70's called californias best metal....it was track one and i wore it out...must have played it 3000 times at least....i uploaded the studio version off that compilation to my channel and im 54 yrs old and i play the song at least once a week...best friggin song of all time to me
The upside-down(weird angle) guitar playing was really cool.. I'm listening to this for the 1st time, and his skills were smooth and rich in variety and it has really had an impact on me. the band is ofcourse, like i commented for Nevermore, they've definetely taken rock/metal many, many notches higher, for their time. Thanks for this superb videro.
@svt77svt No, Ronnie produced an early demo ca. '83 with the original line-up. The band that recorded this song for 'Screams In the Night' in '86/'87 was totally different except for Ann. Btw, the guitar player in this video, Chet Thompson, was one of Randy Rhoads' student.
The Hand is my all time favorite song..It has been since the first time I ever heard it in the early 80's... I bought a cassette called Californias best Metal and it was the first track..It grabbed me from the beginning...It was a compilation of club bands...I wore that cassette out until THe Hand wouldn't play anymore...I looked for the original off that cassette for years and finally a friend found it for me in mp3 form..Seeing this video is just as cool as it gets
They were an amazing band. The first line-up with Ray Schenck was very good too. I just read that Ann Boleyn "parted ways" with Detente. She did a great job in Detente. But hopefully now she can get back to her metal root and either reform hellion or do something of a more tradidional metal band. I love The Hand too.
@NeckWatcher Ann did an awesome job filling in for Dawn Crosby (RIP) in Detente (Fear of God). But her voice is perfect for traditional metal and she is the best there is when it comes to female metal vocalists. Nobody has her voice.
in the early days of metal ann boleyn was comparred to "female bon scott" and sometimes to ronnie james dio. everybody thought that she was singing like a man. but there were and are lots of people who love the tone of her voice. she kept singing for years after the major record companies kept saying that she needed to start singing like a girl...no look at the female singers like Angela Gossor, etc. they would not be where they are if Ann Boleyn didn't lead the way
Agree about Ann for paving the way for traditional metal female vocalists, but for the extreme metal vocalists like Angela was Dawn Crosby (from Détente and Fear of God) that really paved the way.
Funny that now Ann is on a new version of Détente, singing the songs Dawn used sang on 80's!!!
Chet joined Alice in Thunderland after Hellion's demise. After an album with them, he ended going back to college, and today, I'm pretty sure, operates a recording studio in California, and still teaches guitar. I'm not sure what he went back to college for, though.
Hellion used to hang out with Motley Crue. Mick Mars tried to help Chet Thompson by setting him up to play guitar with Mick Mar's wife who was one of the girl dancers from Motley Crue. Then Chet started fucking around with her behind Mick Mars back. Mick caught her and that was the last anybody ever heard from Chet Thompson. I don't think he recorded again after that.
That's what I thought! I knew John Corabi had said in The Dirt that Mick and Emi had divorced because she was fucking the guitarist in her band, whom Mick had bought thousands of dollars worth of equipment for. I knew that Emi was in the band Alice in Thunderland, and so was Chet, so I figured Chet was the one giving her "screams in the night"...oh well, Mick's a badass with or without Emi. Thanks for clearing that up though!
There is a guy in Japan called Suzuki Saito who collects anything to do with Hellion and Ann Boleyn and he has some recordings that Chet Thompson did with Mick Mars. I'd like to get a hold of them.
@NeckWatcher Well, Mick pretty much financed, Alice In Thunderland, the band Chet and Mick's wife, Amy Canyon, were in. But then Chet started screwing Amy and there went the funding and the band.
I took bass lessons from him in the early 90s. He used to teach at Grayson's Tune Town in Montrose, CA. Not sure if he is still there or not. I'd like to take some more lessons with him if he still teaching there.
CastorTroy31 dude,I guess I must be in awe of the fact that Chet was your guitar teacher for a number of years, Thats awesome..This album blows me away every time and it was the reason I picked up guitar in the 1st place,The solo on Bad Attitude is absolutely amazing but this I think in my opinion could possibly top that! Great!
Sweet! Chet Thompson (lead guitar) was my guitar teacher for a number of years at Grayson's Tune Town in Montrose, CA., he learned from the great Randy Rhoads. I never realized it at the time, but taking lessons from this guy, I was in the presence of true greatness. The upside-down guitar stuff I knew he could do, and the piece he played on this video like that I've heard on the Screams In The Night album, but to see it while hearing it, oh my god. There truly never has been someone like Chet.
oh my god!!! I love screams in the night, had no idea that there were any videos apart from Bad Attitude, and I find this!!! Thanx dude totally awesome!!!
I heard that the singer is now singing with Detente, who later became known as Fear of God. They were a very good band. If Ann Boleyn can still sing like this, the new Detente might be interesting. It would be funny as hell if they finally made it after all these years!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
no offense to anyone, but i think the reason they never got signed is...they sound too much like a million other hair bands out there. think about it - if you hear a song by metallica, or motley crue, etc..you can typically instantly identify them. this band is just too general. talented, but general. again - no need for hateful replies, as i am not being negative...rather stating the way i see it from the record company side of things. They are talented, for sure, but too general in scope.
Sorry but i disagree 100%. Name another singer that sounds like Ann Boleyn? I've NEVER HEARD anyone who sounds like her. And, name another guitarist that plays like CHet Thompson, let alone can play the guitar like a harp.
Sorry but Anne Boleyn and Chet Thompson both have very unique and recognizable styles. The reason you recognize bands like Motley or Metallica is because you hear them ten times a day. Can't wait to see Anne Boleyn with Detente/Fear of God this summer.
I haven't heard anyone say he was a joke. The jokes I've heard came with his stint with Alice N Thunderland where he supposedly stole Mick MAr's wife. I can understand being a republican as republicans do this all the time lol.
Chet taught at a crappy music store in the Pasedena/Rosemead area right off the 210 freeway in California from what I remember. I saw Hellion with Chet a few years before Chet joined Mandy in WW3. Chet is a real player with very good phrasing. I was about 3-4 feet away during his upside down solo. Very entertaining show.
I don't recall Chet having a scalloped fretboard. Chet was working with a guitar company to produce a Chet model with some very "unique" features. Unlike anything done still today. But as with so many cool players from the 80's, when the scene began to go south, so did all of it.
