So any moon base would probably have to be underground, which is an expensive prospect. You can go for a few days, then come back so your body can repair any damage - but staying for a longer time really increases the risk of radiation damage.

im no teen and i say it was all fake even the unman'd missions from the early 60s mostly crashed in to the moon and a few overshot the moon but some landed and left instruments ie mirrors but they knew early on you cant send man into deep space (van allen) so they had 1000s of photos to work out a set.
So how did they do those shots of the LEM in orbit around the moon? Unmanned probes? How did they make the radio signals come from the moon - especially when the US was on the opposite side of the planet to the moon?
