LOL! "I believe that Islam is one of the most modern religions in the world today." That is a hilarious statement. It just shows how often the phrase "I believe" is followed by ridiculous uneducated nonsense.
Johann Hari is a fool&so are the do-gooders who want to make this country a multi-cultural society. They just don't get it,these muslims come here, for the lifestyle&few of them actually like us&Human Rights has made them play the system even more now.lord Nazir Ahmed is only a politition,to line his own pockets&to get more Muslim influence into the country.Maybe Nick griffin now is telling the truth, maybe Richard LittleJohn had a point?Alot of people said Enoch Powell was right&he was.
listen religion is all extreme tony and bush are priks for attacking iraq but muslims are hypocrites jus like other religions because never saaid anything about kurds being killed in iraq and turkey in millions sadia arabia beheading people working with american oil companies, taliban murdering people, murder of religious minorities in the muslim world, repression of women dont event start with soharto not a little glimpse of protest against those things
THE WEST HAVE NOT ONLY BEEN FORCING BUT KILLING PEOPLE FROM EVERY NATIONS- CULTURES AND RELIGIONS TO ENFORCE AND IMPLEMENT THEIR IDEAS . YA UMMAH HOW MANY MORE OF US CAN WE AFFORD TO BE PERSECUTED AND EXTERMINATES?!... YA UMMAH WHERE EVER YOU MAYBE ARISE AND UNITE AGAINST THOSE WHO MOCKS YOUR DEEN AND SLAUGHTERS YOUR BROTHERS N SISTERS ALL OVER THE WORD!...
Yeah, swipe your Western keyboard and speak through your Western computer to your fellows enjoying your Western benefits then grab some Western weapons and get stuck in.
See you on the battlefield. We shall win. As usual.
Yes we need respect for everyone but no respect for everything that everyone believes. I don't respect islam. It doesn't deserve respect. It has earned nothing but contempt from me and that's what I think about it. And if we are having the same standards then they should be OUR BRITISH standards in this country. NOT islamic standards.
Whilst I am a big fan of Hari (particularly his coverage ofthe Congo) and support him in this debate, I love watching thoughtfull oponents of my views argue their position, so credit to Khan as well. (p.s. I am aware of all the free speech based come backs to this remark. No need to make them.)
@mattiscat Yes, he was such a liberal that George Bush. I mean that sums it up really, doesn't it - even the Bush era of the GOP is too liberal for Islam.
Lord Nazir Ahmed, who played a pivotal role in preventing Mr. Geert Wilders from entering the United Kingdom, attacking those who seek to impose their values on others.
You used your undemocratic influence to prohibit a DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED European politician from entering the United Kingdom and voicing his opinion. How can you be so hypocritical?
I find Hari's accusation to Hizb that he would like to kill gays misleading. Hari prides himself of his supposed honesty in stating facts yet he does not appear to me as someone genuinely concerned with improving relations between muslims and westernerns. This is made abundantly clear by his persistance in focusing on the very extremes of sharia law and its application. He uses those examples as rethorical tools and as a way to discredit his opponent. Hari is nothing but a polemicist.
I find it incredible that even today advocates of the western viewpoint towards life still look to force their views on the muslim world in a colonial manner. This is classic oreintalism on the part of Johan Hari, in that he is applying the historical experience of the west and its relationship with the Church to Islam and muslims. Muslims progressed when they had an Islamic state that implemented shariah, it is only now that progress has faltered, in its absence.
Your premise of progress associated with sharia has no evidence supporting it. Sharia is an abstract concept that is interpretted differently by just about everyone who calls him/herself a muslim. If what you mean by sharia is what Hizb or the Saudis practice and preach, then never in the history of islam have these concepts been in general use. Try reading the arabian nights for an offbeat glimpse into the way life was n those times.
I find it incredible in turn that even today there are those deny the incontrovertible vast superiority of Western values. Nothing pleases me more than to see the West step on the neck of Islam and grind its face into the dust.
I am sure it doesnt and ultimately thats why your a bigot and little other than nothing empty statements. But you may humour me, what is exactly 'superior' (a slightly Himmlerish statemant on your behalf, which is in itself a contradiction given you advocate 'western values') about these values?
Johann Hari is principled and a defender of religious freedom. It's a give-and-take. Muslims who make life worse for homosexuals, for example, are just as horrible as anti-Islam extremists.
You want a stronger Islam that defies secularism? Well, such ideas tends to destroy societies and make them horrible. Stop the homophobia and the attacks on freedom of speech. I'm already on the side of those who would defend Islam against slander, but I hate homophobia and misogyny.
go to a islamic convention and see how many men hit on you or go to pakistan where most men are really fruity.. pakis are so weird, islam in general has a very homosexual undercurrent.
i lived in saudi arabia, all saudi men have boyfriends, yet saudi arabia has the death penalty for gay sex, you cannot kiss a woman in public, but you could blow a guy in public.
I like when Ahmed say interfaith and inter religion, I ask are there such thing in Pakistan or in any muslim countries? Why should we have it here?He says"I happen to believe that Islam is one of the most modern religion in the world" What a joke? Then why when a muslims becomes apostate, must be killed? Why women are still being killed by stoning, Girls as young as 8 years old are still married to older men in the muslim world.

@MarineAqua45 Johan Hari has come out very publically against the whole idea of a "multi-cultural" society. I think you might misunderstand him here.
