Classic music is Universal, it belongs to humanity, often Japanese an Chinese love to play fast, it's fine for me, they are good pianist, it's true also that playing fast mask some mistakes. Well they are young girls. Give them time.
Schubert, a real genius, his music as the rhythm of a Polka, good for dancing... fast.
@Meelaynah It's a march, not a presto, Meelaynah. Why don't you try matching to the piece at this tempo? Impossible. It's more of a Military Jog at this speed. Horrible tempo.
@Sviolinist: I play this piece at exactly this tempo: when my piano teacher isn't hear, I use this rendition to play along with. If you think that's impossible, thanks for the compliment :)
@Sviolinist You're misunderstanding. Anyone can play the piece at this tempo. The piece is fairly easy. It's a March. Do you know what a march is? You can't march to it at this tempo.
@Sviolinist This is not at all impossible to walk to. This is the same tampo, possibly a small tad faster compered to the version of D733 I have on my phone, and I enjoy walking to it with ease. It'll get my pulse up a bit but it's quite comfortable to walk to.
Ok, so I am a fast-paced walker but I also take long steps, plus I'm a bit overweight and don't have the constitution I used to. I'd say more than half the general population could easilly walk to this, and all military.
@mkarnerfors Ok, 11 hours later and I havenow tried playing this on my Android while out walking... and I'll admit it was *hard* to walk to... had to take rather small steps (for being me). But the biggest problem wasn't really the fast pace but rather that they don't keep it even... it changes all the time.
I recall the story of the Lippizaner horss was not to save them from the Nazis, but the starving Russian conscript soldiers who tended to eat any horses they captured. The whole operation to rescue the horses was to make sure that if they were captured, it was by respectable Westerners who understood the value of the horses. Whatever made you think the Nazis wanted them harmed? The Nazi government paid the Spanish School's bills from 1938 to 1945!
This is regarded by many as one of the most complicated songs to play in piano history. There is a reason why there are so many Youtube videos of people celebrating when they get this one right to within 3 notes error margin. In many reagrds, this is really a song meant to be played by a huge group of players, like a military band or orchestra, not just two to four pianists.
Pierre Pontcarral
To pirrepontcarral. You're a pianist? Never heard of you. Yes, this interpretation is a bit fast but it's great just the same. Why don't you post something so we can critique it.
i remember this as the music from disneys "The miracle of the white horses". A movie about how the master of the lippizaner horses snuck them out of austria under the noses of the nazis. True story, good movie.
Charlotte sung to this in a Making fiends episode.

At this tempo it's not marching but rather running.

Just can't see the relation between fast tempo and Chinese/Japanese.
If you search in YouTube for
Schubert: Military March No. 1 in D, D733 (Live)
You will find the same piece played by Russian pianist. Also fast!

Meelaynah, you're wrong - I'm sorry to say it!
A march is not necessary meant to be played fast! Ok, not slow, but not necessarly fast like this!

Family concert, well, if that floats their boat, I guess, good playing, but they need to slow down.

Is it really? That must be why it took me FOREVER to get this song correctly "decent" (as deemed by my ultra-picky teacher @_@)...
That being said, Chinese people really know their piano well. Those nimble fingers!
