@MrTuxedoCat1 I think the Man is meant to be the devil or a demon who's critisising Jesus, and Amy is singing as Jesus or as Mary defending him saying, 'You won't rise above, your evil.' I don't really acknowledge the lyrics unless I sing along to it. Personally, I don't believe the lyrics are true (I'm an nihlistic atheist), but Amy's a christian and Evanescence was a christian rock band so I doubt she'd call Jesus a lie.

Pain is something everyone can relate to, and because it's such a deep feeling, songs about pain have a strong effect on them. But if there is a crap musician who's had a life of pain, and an amazing musician who's had relatively, no pain, it's obvious who will write a better song.
