You don't know the epic feeling of the first Metroid, back when graphics were next to non-existence. The thrill, the exploration, the challenge. Then, the suspense of Metroid 2 - how awesome that was. And then, Super Metroid. Angels sung in ecstasy at it's joy and splendor. You know none of this.

B. She's 36 in this game. She's destroyed 2 planets and 2 alien races. Plus, she was forced to killed her corrupted bounty hunter allies in Metroid Prime 3.
C. Of course it's a good game. It's a Metroid game, that's to be expected. The is just so bad that it overshadows that game play.
D. The first Metroid game was 8-bit. So in order to get the point across that "Hey, Samus is a girl", they put her in a bikini (which later became the Zero Suit anyways).

Since Samus's parents died when she was 3 , that baby metroid was probably the closest thing Samus had to a family. And to see your only real family you have destroyed trying to protect you would probably leave anyone with emotional scars. Metroid has always been a series about being alone, not just in atmosphere but seriously samus is completely alone. And to expect a character who went through such suffering and loneliness to never mope or cry is ridiculous.
i as a metroid fan take serious issue with this game. what team ninja failed to realize is that the metroid formula is perfect the way it is. retro understood this and simply brought it into first person nd made a truly outstanding game. team ninja, however doesn't seem to understand how to make things fun (example: doa was doing fine until tn decided that there werent enough tities and created doa Xtreme) and decided to gut the whole gameplay formula. why fix what isnt broken?

@MrMetroid1998 nintendo took a gamble with the prime series and hit the jack-pot, however they went all in with other m and crapped out (also i should stop milking the annalogy before its ass falls off). i guess you're right though it is too different, so different in fact that the game i grew up with is lost under all the bs. the game i love is in here somewhere but it only makes occassional glimpses. people who liked this game love the NAME metroid, not the GAME metroid.

If this was wasn't a Metroid game it wouldn't be receving anywere near the amount of bad reviews its getting and would be a great game as a standalone game, face it Metroid Other M is a decent metroid game and a Great game in its own right, I played it myself and found it too be one of the few decent games on the wii.

@AlphaWolf428 Metroid Other M has Great Gameplay I admit I had some huge frustation with the controls at first but I got used to them as soon as I relized the nunchuk wasn't required for this game, the level designs, enemys, and bosses are all extremely well done and the overall experince and game play though nowhere near as good as the prime games were all very well done. You don't like Metroid Other M because its different from all other Metroid games.

I agree G4 is full of hot air Metroid Other M is no masterpeace but its by no means an abomination, I played it myself and the only real things I found wrong were, Samus Aran being slightly out of character and needing authorization to use abilitys instead of gaining, but other then that Metroid Other M is a great and enjoyable, face it haters Metroid Other M is not a bad and it dosen't disgrace the franchise in anyway, the gameplay is fine and the story is fine.
This was a well done critique. I haven't played Other M myself, but it looks like the kind of game I would like. The story appears to add depth to Samus as a character. It's good to see her showing some emotion rather than just being a straight up badass all the time. Then she'd just be another one dimensional cookie-cutter character. The homing sounds like a good idea, the switch between 3rd and 1st person should add to the difficulty, and the self replenishing ammo will eliminate frustration

other m was rushed and the story was 75% of the game and i would give it 3/5 to a 3.5/5 instead of 2/5 the game got more credit than it deserved but x-play doesnt see the soul of the game and how it worked ur damage fixing was good but i played it over twice and it did not put me to the point were i would die cuz i was out matched, no it was because of over powered enemies to early in the game and also 3 bosses maybe 4 take absolutly no effort at all and phantoon was just way to overpowered

First video of yours I've watched and I have to say you speak a lot of hypocrisy... Half your video is just insulting the person and not actually "undoing" any damage. Then some of your own facts are off. Adam for example was introduced as a computer based personality of the man and not actually him. As well her time with the baby Metroid was very brief from Metroid 2 to Super Metroid. Her end game suit was only shown if you beat the game on hard and was to show she was a she and not a he.
@Requiem9001 She doesn't act like she does in the M1, M2, or Super M. You say it shows she can take orders, but she is a bounty hunter and not a simple super soldier like say Master Chief is. They could of said to tone down the amount of ass and to not overly sexual.

She was always strong willed and loving, but now she is an overly abundant bundle of emotions. She cared for the domesticated baby Metroid, but the opening video basically makes it out to be that she had the thing for years and developed a close relationship to it. She gave the thing to the labs shortly after M2.
@Requiem9001 Overall, I agree that the game was a good game, but the story was bad, voice acting was dry, her back story isn't the back story we care to know about (I care more about the Chozo and their past of training her as do many Metroid fans), it is sometimes a little clunky, and does make the once strong, willing, self controlled, loving, powerful, brave, etc Samus out to be just an overly emotional girl from any stereotype high school girl. Not saying it was a bad game, but not a good 1.
As a long time metroid fan who has playing the games since the release of the first one back in 1987 i have to completely agree with X-play's review. You never grew up with the series as I have. what they did to Samus in Other M is unforgivable she was the only stoic self confident Female heroine in video games and they turned her into a generic over emotion mess just like 99% of the females in video games today.

X-play's review was merely their own opinion(s); in which, much like you and other gamers, you're all entitled to your own. I can certainly see the flaws X-play pointed out. I own the game myself and being a long time fan of the Metroid games, I was rather disappointed with this short and linear version. I found the controls clunky,the camera stays at 1 angle in 3rd person, the story was cheesy with bad voice acting, and Samus was changed to a girl who jizzed in her pants when Ridley showed up.
well is the game sexist? Well yes. When ever you think how someone should think / act in any situation it's sexist. @ToyotaSally In case you haven't noticed but Samus was under his command and if you have played Metroid Fusion you can see that Samus has alot of respect for Adam that's why she didn't use her weapons until he authorized it and also it's better than the usual getting hit by a huge beam or explosion and losing all of you items and finding them on the same planet you are on. Now for Ridley if you have read the Metroid Manga Ridley kills her parents in front of her. Cont.

Now I know what you are going to say why doesn't this happen the last four times. She probably thought that Ridley would come back and when she defeated him again in SM she blew up the planet Ridley was on so it was safe to assume that Ridley was dead. Basically she put her guard down and didn't expect Ridley to come back from an exploding planet

It's not free exploration, like ALL previous games.

@RyanKeehn949 Easy mistake. But as far as her mannerisms go: She is, actually, being quite submissive. All previous games painted her as this stoic, lone figure. She spends months alone, hunting deadly enemies, with no support. All of a sudden, in Other M, she seems unable to do anything without running it through Adam, and she honestly seems more focused on him than the mission. The whole thing seems to go against earlier characterizations that we've seen of her. It... just doesn't feel right.

She talks about Adam because he was mentioned in Metroid Fusion and we finally get to see what are his characteristics and what is his relationship with Samus is. @RyanKeehn949 I'd much prefer that to learning that she's entirely dependent on him, and seems to be full of nothing but regret and a desperate desire to return to having him directly control her actions (not just as a soldier). She hasn't got a SHRED of self-confidence. It just doesn't fit with everything else we've seen of her. I honestly hope this gets written off as resulting from PTSD from the events of SM, largely marginalized, and she goes back to behaving independently in future games
I played the game for 18 hours and got a 100% colection of items so in my review I'm going to give an 8.5/10. The gameplay is top notch and the cutescenes standout. My only complaints were the uninspired soundtrack, the portions of the game where your forced to go into first person mod to solve a puzzle, and not being able to find the weapon upgrades because I don't care how she "loses" her ability

@schantalpaul I disagree about that, theres nothing wrong with Metroid Other M's gameplay, story or voice acting, its just Samus potrail (espically with Ridley,) and the fact that you need authorizationg to use power ups rather then gaining them, those are the only real things that put Metroid Other M down, other then that Metroid Other M is a worthy installment in the Metroid franchise and is a fun game to play for newcomers and real metroid fans alike.

I played this game over the weekend myself. After playing it, re-reading Abbie's review and watching the video review X-Paly put out I can safely conclude he following:
1) The X-Play review is full of bollocks. At most this review that Abbie Heppe put out can be best described as her ranting because Samus is humanized and not the stone cold ass kicking machine she wants her to be.
2) They didn't play the game for very long (You DO have an aimg reticle.

What I like was how you pointed out their mistakes in saying Adam was introduced in Other M, when he was actually introduced in Fusion. @darthkarppa He was mentioned briefly at one point. It's been a long time since I've played Fusion. Other M's final boss is sweet! I will never be able to beat it in Hard Mode.
@WheeBurhProductions I don't believe he can be fought on Hard Mode, as Hard Mode doesn't allow exploration of the Bottle Ship after finishing the initial story... at least that's what I experienced, so I assumed I've beaten Hard Mode as completely as possible. XD

1st off, Morgan Webb doesn't have opinions, she's a parrot with boobs trying to sell you on games, and not a very good one. These comments are Abbie Heppe's instead, and she's taken everything to an extreme. After playing it, there are some issues, but nothing that merits these comments. But, if you take your advice on games from a channel that canceled all its Video Game related shows for syndicated reruns, then you're doomed already. Be better than G4, review it and tell us why you liked it!

B. She's 36 in this game. She's destroyed 2 planets and 2 alien races. Plus, she was forced to killed her corrupted bounty hunter allies in Metroid Prime 3.
C. Of course it's a good game. It's a Metroid game, that's to be expected. The is just so bad that it overshadows that game play.
D. The first Metroid game was 8-bit. So in order to get the point across that "Hey, Samus is a girl", they put her in a bikini (which later became the Zero Suit anyways).

Since Samus's parents died when she was 3 , that baby metroid was probably the closest thing Samus had to a family. And to see your only real family you have destroyed trying to protect you would probably leave anyone with emotional scars. Metroid has always been a series about being alone, not just in atmosphere but seriously samus is completely alone. And to expect a character who went through such suffering and loneliness to never mope or cry is ridiculous.

i as a metroid fan take serious issue with this game. what team ninja failed to realize is that the metroid formula is perfect the way it is. retro understood this and simply brought it into first person nd made a truly outstanding game. team ninja, however doesn't seem to understand how to make things fun (example: doa was doing fine until tn decided that there werent enough tities and created doa Xtreme) and decided to gut the whole gameplay formula. why fix what isnt broken?

@AlphaWolf428 Metroid Other M has Great Gameplay I admit I had some huge frustation with the controls at first but I got used to them as soon as I relized the nunchuk wasn't required for this game, the level designs, enemys, and bosses are all extremely well done and the overall experince and game play though nowhere near as good as the prime games were all very well done. You don't like Metroid Other M because its different from all other Metroid games.

This was a well done critique. I haven't played Other M myself, but it looks like the kind of game I would like. The story appears to add depth to Samus as a character. It's good to see her showing some emotion rather than just being a straight up badass all the time. Then she'd just be another one dimensional cookie-cutter character. The homing sounds like a good idea, the switch between 3rd and 1st person should add to the difficulty, and the self replenishing ammo will eliminate frustration

Even the speed boost was identical in style and control to Super metroid. But still, it had no metroid feeling. Space jump and spin attack was identical in nature and control to super metroid...but still - no metroid feel.

She was always strong willed and loving, but now she is an overly abundant bundle of emotions. She cared for the domesticated baby Metroid, but the opening video basically makes it out to be that she had the thing for years and developed a close relationship to it. She gave the thing to the labs shortly after M2.

You never grew up with the series as I have. what they did to Samus in Other M is unforgivable she was the only stoic self confident Female heroine in video games and they turned her into a generic over emotion mess just like 99% of the females in video games today.

X-play's review was merely their own opinion(s); in which, much like you and other gamers, you're all entitled to your own. I can certainly see the flaws X-play pointed out. I own the game myself and being a long time fan of the Metroid games, I was rather disappointed with this short and linear version. I found the controls clunky,the camera stays at 1 angle in 3rd person, the story was cheesy with bad voice acting, and Samus was changed to a girl who jizzed in her pants when Ridley showed up.

@RyanKeehn949 No, because Samus spends most of the game pining over Adam, and looking for external validation by measuring her own actions against his. Despite having been solo for years, instantly starts deferring to his command without even being asked. Not using weapons unless "authorised"? What is that? Even the varia suit? The HELL? She's intentionally risking her life for no benefit, because Adam didn't tell her to protect herself. That's just WRONG.
And she FREEZES when she sees Ridley!!

@ToyotaSally In case you haven't noticed but Samus was under his command and if you have played Metroid Fusion you can see that Samus has alot of respect for Adam that's why she didn't use her weapons until he authorized it and also it's better than the usual getting hit by a huge beam or explosion and losing all of you items and finding them on the same planet you are on. Now for Ridley if you have read the Metroid Manga Ridley kills her parents in front of her. Cont.

@RyanKeehn949 When she met him again she suffered massive PTSD to the point where she wanted her comrades to kill her. Now I know what you are going to say why doesn't this happen the last four times. She probably thought that Ridley would come back and when she defeated him again in SM she blew up the planet Ridley was on so it was safe to assume that Ridley was dead. Basically she put her guard down and didn't expect Ridley to come back from an exploding planet

@RyanKeehn949 I'm pretty sure she was certain he was dead at least 3 times before this :P It's a weak argument and you know it. Moreover, I'm concerned with her constantly judging her own actions by Adam more or less obessively. She broke off from the GF for a reason, and now she suddenly turns into a dependent personality? Just no. And she refuses to use the VARIA feature of her suit until Adam says. She's taking extra damage because Adam hasn't ordered her not to. Right. THAT MAKES SENSE.

@ToyotaSally Remember in the beginning she said that she thought that Ridley was gone for good because well the space pirates, motherbrain, and ridley were on the planet when it exploded and she probably thought there was no possible way ridley could have survived. Now with the varia suit Adam never ordered her to take it off or put it on it was only when it said that there is danger in Sector 2 that's when she put's it on. cont

@RyanKeehn949 I'making a guess here and saying that she probably took it off because it's a little bit pointless that you have it on to protect yourself from the heat only to find out that the enemies are weak as hell and also there isn't any danger. Now with Adam Samus doesn't really judge her own actions. The only thing she really does in the game besides kicking ass is talk about her relationship with Adam I don't see any wrong with that.

@RyanKeehn949 She actually goes all the way up to the first boss in section 2 without the Varia Suit. And the first time she rendezvouses with the GF team, she goes on some rant about Adam's feelings about Bioweapons. Honestly, her whole manner is mopey, submissive and dependent. And even if you put the gameplay aside, it's not really true to Metroid's standard format. You go from section to section as you're ordered, basically on a railroad. It's not free exploration, like ALL previous games.

I can see why her manner is "mopey" because well she just lost the baby Metroid and is feeling sad because of it. Now Samus being submissive and dependent I don't see that at all. I've seen twilight and that had the female being submissive and dependent.

@RyanKeehn949 Easy mistake. But as far as her mannerisms go: She is, actually, being quite submissive. All previous games painted her as this stoic, lone figure. She spends months alone, hunting deadly enemies, with no support. All of a sudden, in Other M, she seems unable to do anything without running it through Adam, and she honestly seems more focused on him than the mission. The whole thing seems to go against earlier characterizations that we've seen of her. It... just doesn't feel right.

She talks about Adam because he was mentioned in Metroid Fusion and we finally get to see what are his characteristics and what is his relationship with Samus is. If we got nothing well there will be alot of pissed off fans saying that Adam was pointless in Metroid Fusion

@RyanKeehn949 I'd much prefer that to learning that she's entirely dependent on him, and seems to be full of nothing but regret and a desperate desire to return to having him directly control her actions (not just as a soldier). She hasn't got a SHRED of self-confidence. It just doesn't fit with everything else we've seen of her. I honestly hope this gets written off as resulting from PTSD from the events of SM, largely marginalized, and she goes back to behaving independently in future games

I played the game for 18 hours and got a 100% colection of items so in my review I'm going to give an 8.5/10. The gameplay is top notch and the cutescenes standout. My only complaints were the uninspired soundtrack, the portions of the game where your forced to go into first person mod to solve a puzzle, and not being able to find the weapon upgrades because I don't care how she "loses" her ability

You're an idiot. Sure I may sound young. I wasn't born in the 80s (wish I was) but the NES was my first system given to me by my cousin. Metroid was one of the first games I played in my life. I love Metroid, of course I know this is the first Nintendo/Team Ninja Collaboration, I mentioned it briefly. Metroid Other M has it's flaws. I never said it was perfect. Other M is to Metroid as Mario 2 on NES is to the Mario series. Don't be so quick to be condescending and judgemental.

Other M is really overrated, X-Play's score was too low, but the game deserved it. I think you're fan-boying way too much over this. 25 out of the 30 people that liked this are most likely just upset that the Metroid series finally got a bad game. It's ok! Every series has a stupid game, like New Super Mario Bros. Wii. That game angered a lot of Mario Fans (Including me). and you said it yourself, Team Ninja helped with the game, that's why it failed

@schantalpaul I disagree about that, theres nothing wrong with Metroid Other M's gameplay, story or voice acting, its just Samus potrail (espically with Ridley,) and the fact that you need authorizationg to use power ups rather then gaining them, those are the only real things that put Metroid Other M down, other then that Metroid Other M is a worthy installment in the Metroid franchise and is a fun game to play for newcomers and real metroid fans alike.

@schantalpaul I seriously doubt your a metroid Fan, I played Metroid Other M and its nowere near as bad as you, G4 or the other haters say, the gameplay was outstanding, the story is tollarable and the bosses fights and enemys are extremely well done, do only real bad things I found about this game are Samus Arans charaterization, the ending was dissapointing and needing authorization to use abilitys was stuipid and its kind of short. but other then that Metroid Other M is a great game.

I played this game over the weekend myself. After playing it, re-reading Abbie's review and watching the video review X-Paly put out I can safely conclude he following:
1) The X-Play review is full of bollocks. At most this review that Abbie Heppe put out can be best described as her ranting because Samus is humanized and not the stone cold ass kicking machine she wants her to be.
2) They didn't play the game for very long (You DO have an aimg reticle.
3) wii hate is in right now at G4.

Lmao! Dude, I salute you. I own Other M and finally (fully) completed the game, including Hard Mode, and the game kicked ass. What I like was how you pointed out their mistakes in saying Adam was introduced in Other M, when he was actually introduced in Fusion. The fact that all they complained about is Samus's character shows that - at the very least - Abbie is just a biased femenist extremist who knows nothing of the franchise... and possibly video games in general. Good job, guy. XD

@WheeBurhProductions I don't believe he can be fought on Hard Mode, as Hard Mode doesn't allow exploration of the Bottle Ship after finishing the initial story... at least that's what I experienced, so I assumed I've beaten Hard Mode as completely as possible. XD

You sound really young. That being said the G4 review is even more sad because a young kid can see through the abysmal journalism X-Play produces. Not only that he actually knows the history of Metroid which the reviewers obviously didn't or just flat out ignored so they would feel justified in complaining about problems that weren't there.
Didn't mean you being young as an insult by the way. You touched on every point that was wrong with the G4 review, great job.

Before I even got Other M I knew that review was shit. I've been playing Metroid since the first. While I wasn't the biggest fan of the prime series, I think people who got accustomed to it don't like the fact that it changed again. 1st off, Morgan Webb doesn't have opinions, she's a parrot with boobs trying to sell you on games, and not a very good one. These comments are Abbie Heppe's instead, and she's taken everything to an extreme. After playing it, there are some issues, but nothing that merits these comments. But, if you take your advice on games from a channel that canceled all its Video Game related shows for syndicated reruns, then you're doomed already. Be better than G4, review it and tell us why you liked it!
