Is it based on a Rans or other existing trike? I like the shell. Can you see the traffic lights ok when at the front of the line? The window line is pretty low.
I was about to say I saw one that looked just like that yesterday, then I realized, this IS the one I saw yesterday!! (I live locally and visited RBR) I need something rain proof!
@Spazum888 We haven't tried cobble yet (none in town). Initial iterations of the Aergo were quite noisy, but we've brought some of that down by improving the shell supports. Unfortunately, it looks like this might be a one-off and will not be sold as a product.
Great job RBR!! Ha, used to live a block away on Old Boals Rd. in '86!! In TN now. Ahhh, the opposition w/new idea's, peoples egos crack me up. I wish you guys the best w/these!! Rode a recumbent that Stan brought to my folks house yrs back, that's a diff ride!!
and where do I need this sort of vehicle ? why fairing? because of aero? lol.. that weights a ton and does not do anything, protection. NOT. rain cover NOT.. All it does is it blocks your vision and is just unpractical.. sometimes these recumbent freaks go religious what they do. NOT ALL what goes by laying on your back is practical and usefull. Try figure out something else.
I have a Mini 40 Mile Busettii bike and it runs 50-55 miles on one battery charge. I also tried my friends Vortex Mountain bike by Busettii. It ROCKS ! Can get up to 32 mph top speed, and on one charge that bike set the new record of 86 miles. Hope it becomes a big hit. In California many people like Busettii because they cost around $1700 but can go 50--86 miles on one charge depending on model. Maria in Cali
I have a question about human power. On any bike, there is at least one leg pushing a pedel at a time. What is the power output of one pedel being pushed with both legs at the same time?
@tock101 with clipped pedals you can both push and pull with your feet, but that level of energy output is like a sprinter running for all he's worth, you cant sustain it for more than a few minutes.
@MrHobiecat The idea isn't to push and pull, the idea is to spin... make circles at about 90rpms. It brings more muscle groups into play increasing efficiency (once in shape) and doesn't load the knees as much. Caveat... 'ankling' is a dangerous technique long term where you pretend you are scraping mud off your shoes to add power. Just clip in and try spinning tiny circles rather than trying to stomp.

good size, definitely visible by cars, they can't bitch that they didn't see you when you're on the street using your legal right to commute in something like that.
Chuck McCain, the owner of the fiberglass company in Tucson that makes this fairing, was murdered on April 2nd, 2010, by an employee that he was helping. The employee had suffered a stroke and his personality had become violent. Chuck's family is pressing onward with their fiberglass company and continue to make the fairing available. Keep Chuck in your prayers. He had become a friend of mine. He was a complicated guy that did a lot to help others. The man had living yet to do.
1) MrHobiecat is an atheist, so insecure that he freaks out and tries to convince others that God doesn't exist. This makes him feel better about his own limited life.
2) MrHobiecat can only 'press' on the pedals because pulling on the pedals would be 'depressing'.
3) MrHobiecat is recovering from a severe whiplash injury preventing him from turning his head... at all.
I've ridden Boris' fairing design (Aerolope) years ago when it was on SWB bikes. It's fun, but the problem is that you CANNOT see behind! Even with mirrors it was dangerous. This needs to be fixed by having a clear window behind the rider and/or very large mirrors.
@CellCoachCom Cut 2 holes at the back for vision - they will also help let the air out that comes in through the doors - access is a big design challenge - check these boys out. watch?v=5V2FgwN_re4
@maco10810 I understand... I have been a streamlined racer at Battle Mountain, back in 2003. Cutting 2 holes in the back won't work that well. It needs to have this issue addressed in the design. An intentionally designed Lexan rear window would help, but if you look at the rear 'point' in the fairing... that is the spot where your rearward vision would be directed. Boris never properly addressed rear visibility with this design.
@CellCoachCom Don´t overestimate this point. I use a Kettwiesel dayly in the "Ruhrgebiet", the west german coal mine district with a very intense traffic density), and rear visibility is not really an issue. Us trikers have to rely on people behind us slowing down. If not - there´s nothing you can do about it, even if you see them approaching with too much speed. For dangerous left hand turns, you are forced to use the right lane anyway.(in germany)
I have personally ridden inside of the Aerolope fairing... I know what I'm talking about. You cannot see rearward without using outside mounted mirrors.
@CellCoachCom you cant see rearward with ANY recumbent bike, because you cannot twist your head around 180 degrees with your head upright and your shoulders square.
@MrHobiecat Hello? Earth to 'MrHobiecat'... have you ever used a mirror mounted to your glasses to see behind you when riding a recumbent? You can't even do that with this fairing.
@MrHobiecat I can see just fine rearwards on all my recumbents... that's what the mirrors are for. I've got two and three wheeled ones, and can see a lot more of what is going on around me than I can on my classic italian road bike where I have to strain my neck upwards to see in front of me. Are cars where you sit in a seat like a recumbent also impossible to see to the rear? Or do you just use the mirrors? I don't know anyone that can actually twist their head 180 degrees there either.
@scottwa In a car you can lean forward in your seat, twist your shoulders around, throw one arm over the other seat and look out the back window. You cant do that on a 2 wheel recumbent bike without losing your balance, esp not with underseat steering. On a three wheeler you dont have to worry about losing your balance, but with this faring your rear view is totally blocked. Yeah, we all use mirrors, but when you have to LOOK behind you, mirrors dont let you see everything.
@yard1sale1dale you guys make anything to make a quick buck, its all bullshit anyway, seriously if your just having fun then so be it but pls don't turn this into the next automobile generation.
@newjersey02 I'm not sure what you're saying, but I gather you don't like bicycles. I think you'd be surprised if you ever rode a faired bicycle (partial or full fairing), what you can do with it. Light cars and ultra-light vehicles are not new, but are coming back in a big way, with modern small engines and micro-diesels, and HPVs and electric assist bikes are coming into use too. Be happy. Its lower gas prices and less traffic for you.
@newjersey02 Really, I don't know what you mean by "a quick buck". Bicycles are not really that highly profitable, and less conventional vehicles (fairings, trikes, recumbents) are not high volume sales. If someone goes into business to sell bikes, it is a high risk business, but probably propelled by serious interest in the vehicle and sense of pride, more than "a quick buck".

Looks like an interesting alternative to fuselage shaped velomobiles. Highly visible with the extra height. How's the weight?

It would be really interesting if it had a compartment for bags and for little children.
A real alternative car for moving in city also when it rains.
