  • Ah, yes. Minbari.

  • I cant imagine aliens more ridiculous than these centauri.

  • @Grey13Human

I can understand your comment, but behind the Centauri stands a very sad truth. They are based on the Ancient Romans, and embody the horror and decadence they brought into the world.

Ridiculous in regard of their behavior, for sure, but also sad.

  • Only the Dead know the End of War!!!

  • Only the Dead know the End of War.

  • This is completly true about humans

  • @theg0dfathers

It's a bit complicationed to answer, because the B5 universe is pretty big.

But in short, The Centuari people were held hostage by the Drakth (might have spelled that wrong) by placing nukes about the cities, some of those were detonated as a punishment for something.

There is a three part novel-series covering the fall of Centuari prime. The series is called "Legion of Fire", unfortunately I can't find the last one anywhere so I had to get a digital copy of p2p.

  • @mortensjoegren Actually it was a combined Drazi and Narn fleet that bombed the planet from orbit. It was seen in the 5th season ( I can't remember which episode) While it is true about the Drakh, they never detonated any of them.

  • @archangel72367

We are not taking about the same attack. This scene in this clip happens about 15-16 years after the events seen in season 5 (in the B5 universe).

The devastation we are seeing is not from the attack by the Drazi and Narn, 15-16 years is a long time for buildings to burn ;).

In the novel-series I mentioned the Drakth did detonate the bombs as a punishment for something.

  • Easily one of the best moments in televised science fiction.

  • Hats of to the cruiser that said "fuck you" and just rammmed the minbari ship.

  • Used to watch that show with great devotion. As I recall, on the eve of Minbari's victory over earth, they surrenderd because they found out that the souls of their dead where reborn within humans.

  • @GetYourModelOn yup, at least that's what they thought ;)

  • @GetYourModelOn Yes, but that is not all, when they captured Jeff Sinclair and tested him with the Triluminari, they found out that his DNA contained patterns resembling those of Valen himself (In fact Sinclair turns out to be Valen later in the series), thus implying that minbari and humans are at some level even genetically related. Delenn for instance is a "Child of Valen" which means that her familiy descended from the transformed Jeffrey Sinclair.

  • I love this show.

  • They fought as heroic as the japanese did in the end of world war two.

  • @kuribayashi87

I wouldn't call the japanese fighting at the end of WWII heroic, as much as I would call it a result of indoctrinated hatred. The japanese were inculcated with lies and taught to hate everything about the West, thus killing everyone and everything representing it in a corrupted craze. This clip depicts general human honor and grim resolve in it's purest form, no clouded view or politics... just a realization of what needed to be done, and it was done with dignity, to the end.

  • @Goldenglimmer

And American's have any less? We won. We wrote the history books. Freedom Fighter/Terrorist etc.

  • @harlequin2262 Yeah, and look where that has gotten you. You're all too hyped up on 'making the world a better place' that none of you realise just how fucking worse you are making everything for everyone else with your delusions of grandeur.

  • One of the best moments ever of Babylon 5

  • I wonder if we'd really have that level of courage faced with the extinction of our race? I hope so

  • @angrydead Most today would curl up and die rather than fight to defend the species. Remember, fighting for anything is "wrong" and "evil" now, your not allowed to defend your own life anymore.

If anything like this movie clip did happen I surely pray and hope that humans would fight to the bitter end rather than surrender or just lay down.

  • @Arelak an interesting point even if I do suspect you're getting on your soap box. But I think you've missed the point. The film made the point that it didnt really matter if we fought: the mimbari where going to wipe us out: that's the issue.

  • @Arelak I agree I think as long as a person has a sense of Honor they will fight to the end. Its when we lose our Honor is when we become cowards.

  • thair are leftovers like the thing at the end on londos neck that he gets drunk to blind that waches him and he quickly lets delen and shareden go and askes ge'car to kill him and the thing wakes up and thay kill eachother in the first seson he sees ge'car and knows that he is going to die with his hands around gecars neck killing eachother he dremped it before he ever saw him

  • WOW that was moving, what season is this from

  • it's from one of the movies - Babylon 5: In the Beginning (1998)

  • This was maybe Londo's best speech.

  • @sunnchilde it lasts the entier show till the 5th year

  • i watched this, then i downloaded a special freespace2 mod. I tell you it feels VERY good to shoot down your first Minbari

  • was this before or after the fall of babylon 5?

  • @phillip1054 that was from the movie "In the Beginning", the frame action with londos narration takes place somewhere in the 20 year hiatus between Sheridan leaving B5 and the End of the series portrayed in "Sleeping in Light", in fact it is the night of Londos death. The war itself takes place 10 years before the first season.

  • Here's something most of you may not have known about this war: When hostilities between Earth and Minbar first broke out, the Drazi were among Earth's strongest supporters; in fact they dispatched three of their strongest battle groups to reinforce Earth's defense lines. This Drazi task force never arrived at its destination, however. Within days, a coded message from Minbar was received by the Drazi government. Shortly thereafter, Drazi support for Earth was withdrawn. (Can you guess why?)

  • Interesting...how do you know that?

  • It's all recorded in the B5 Roleplaying Game's Non-Aligned Worlds Sourcebook.

And to answer the question, the Minbari intercepted the Drazi in hyperspace... with the usual results.

  • those books are AMAZING sorces of info i have EA and the Minbari ones EA has the whole histroy of earth from 1994 to 2258. love to find moreof them

  • The Babylon Wars wargaming system has some equally interesting material. I recall that the Dilgar Wars had a gem of a hypothetical battle scenario: Did the Dilgar dispatch a suicidal strike force with orders to launch a bio-attack upon Earth? If they did, there's no proof. And did a squadron of Minbari war cruisers intercept the Dilgar in hyperspace? The Minbari officially deny doing anything of the sort, and THEY DO NOT LIE... Read "The Storm That No One Heard" and judge for yourself...

  • Its in one of the novels by JMS himself. And no, it wasn't the Minbari that wiped out the Drazi fleet, it was the Vorlons. The Vree also sent a fleet but it was destroyed as well and it wouldn't come out until a century later that it was killed off by a few of the 'awake' Shadow ships. After both those fleets disappeared, and the Markab were 'visited' by a Minbari war fleet, no other race dared send help.

  • Markab never attacked by mindbari.

Markabs died out because of a virus.

  • Yes they were attacked by the Minbari - they were 'allied' to the Minbari in the last war, and had a mutual non-aggression treaty with them, AND they had a defense pact with the EA . Its just that AFTER the war they were wiped out by a virus. It was hinted later in one of the novels that it was a leftover by Jha'dur (Dilgar Warmaster) as a last 'fuck you' to the race that caused the EA to enter the Dilgar War

  • i think if earth alliance has been in that time warlock destroyers and victory class cruiser those hostilities betveen earth alliance and minbari federation probably never happen

  • @vvpassat victory class included mimbari tech but i see what your saying

  • @vvpassat Such a war...all because a misunderstanding...makes you think,kinda

  • @NCTaikoDrumboy That is pretty cool but I have to agree with DashSVK. How *do* you know that?

And, as to why support would be withdrawn? Simple, Minbar reminded the Drazi that they could hand them their asses even more easily than they expected to hand us ours.

  • @NCTaikoDrumboy Durrrrr probably because of Shadow intervention.

  • @sisawat How do I know what I know regarding the Earth-Minbari War? I already told everybody here... I own and have read the Babylon 5 Non-Aligned Worlds Sourcebook. All the pertinent information is stored there.

Also, I have great memory and recall.

  • @NCTaikoDrumboy Nevermind, enjoy your recall.

  • @sisawat Oh, I do. Indeed I do... and it feels GREAT!!!

  • @NCTaikoDrumboy I suppose it could have something to do with the fact that next to the Shadows and Vorlons, the Minbari were the strongest of the space-faring races and would easily have annihilated the Drazi, just like Earth.

  • @Varrenify Oh, the Minbari were strong... no doubts there.

  • If I ever had to make a choice how I'd like to die i wish it was like that, fIghting fot a right cause.

  • It's only a right cause because that is what your superiors tell you. Babylon 5 was more involved than that. Watch the episode "Intersections in Real Time" (season 4, episode 18) and you will think differently.

  • Hahaha - "If it's lunchtime - you can have the sandwich - if it's not....you can't." - what a great episode - no special effects - just sublime examination of state violence against the citizenry.

Personally, I was a fan of Garibaldi's comment when they were putting the Earth Alliance seal back up on the wall at Babylon 5, and they had leveled it, he is asked - how does it look - "Still looks a little crooked to me....".

  • Aye, it's perhaps one of my favourite episodes, just because it delves more into the dark psychological side of people (and which I have always had an interest in).

Garibaldi also had some good lines, but for me, his best were not said aloud: one episode where he shoots out the PA system in the lift after the default 'personality' computer came online was one of the best.

  • I see somebody have problem with understand!.. I only write that Only CENTAURI Empire could fight with MInbari as a hard rival....Minbari respect Centauri beacouse Centari was VERY STRONG and dnager race to Minbari...NARN was a more primitive than centauri , drazi that same... you dont need like centauri but its FACT that only force in galaxy(young races) being rival to Minbari was Centari Empire

  • Not ture IMO. The Narn were of Equal Strength with the Centauri. The Centauri Werent strong until the shadows showed up. Helpoing them take planets and resources to strengthen their fleets. Though the narn may not have had the amount of planets, the Narns had one thing over the Centauri, They were a Warrior race after the centauri occupation. And from in the beginning, the narn werent afraid to help the humans, and yet the centauri was afraid to because they didnt want a war with the Minbari

  • I think the Narn realised that the Minbari were far more pissed at humanity than them, and the Centauri, being as, well, weak as they were at the time of the war, probably couldn't have helped even if they'd wanted to

  • That is speculation. The only one who would know if the Centauri could fight the Minbari as a hard rival (whether win or lose doesn't matter) is JMS himself.

  • @gribae Didn't Londo say that even when the Centauri Republic was at its height that they never opposed the Minbari?

  • @NCTaikoDrumboy That is mostly because the Minbari had at least half a million years over any of the Younger Races and their technology only came in second to the Vorlon and Shadows (First Races not counted)

  • @knollik I realise this was written a while ago but you are incorrect. The Centauri were NEVER rivals to the Minbari. That would be like saying a young republic like Mexico is a rival to the British Empire (circa 19th C) The Centauri became spacefaring during the 'Dark Ages' on Earth, and the Minbari were spacefaring at least 1,000yrs before that. Centauri Rep was quite young in the last Shadow War so avoided conflict. At the same point, Minbari were allying with VORLONS! So they can't be.

  • In series 2 a Narn heavy cruiser battles with a Centari Battlecruiser next to Babylon 5, they take eachother out so it shows that they are approx equal to eachother. And the Centari were afraid of the Minbari, also the Intersteller alliance was not afraid of Centari, they kicked their asses easily, but Sheridan didnt want to go on an invasion (to prevent civilian casualities). Also the vorlons were gone by the time of the ISA war with Centari, they only came near Centari during the shaddow war.

  • intersteeler aliance make shitt thinking about war with centari and after vorlon destroy centauri forces intersteller aliance and race like narn and drazi make revenge bombarding alfa centauri

  • @knollik centari prime alfa centauri is a real star

  • fuck minbari earth should make aliance with centauri...:)

  • technically the alliance made between earth and other planets include the centauri.

the centauri are pretty much vampires in nature anyhow.

  • I think what your reffering to is the Interstellar Alliance, and no, the Centauri were not part of it, until after Londo Died as Emperor, and Vir became Emperor. Season Five shows Londo refusing the membership to the alliance, and in season 3 witin war with no end, londo reveals why to sheridan and asks for him to free Centauri Prime.

And i have no idea what you mean by the vampire refference there.

  • i dont telling that centauri was higher technology than minbari but centaurti have highest technology ofcourse after minbari...and centauri have biggest fleet in galaxy (young races) even minbari if i remember delen..say that centauri have the biggest fleet in galaxy and territory and only centauri empire can be true rival of Minbari and minbari afraid only centauri empire...

  • and i remember that even interstellar aliance ofcourse without earth and typical minbari ships but using white stars cannot defeat centari..centauri empire doing what it want! untli vorlon start fight with centauri...

  • we tried that but the Centauri were afraid the Minbari would fuck them up too

  • i dont thing so..centauri was strong and only centuri was strong wnought to FUck off Minbari:) sad there is no next episodes babilon v:/

  • Wring.Londo said in the first parts of In the Beginning, when the humans wabted to buy weapons from them, that the centauri would not enter the war in any way, as they didnt want the minbari to turn their guns on them.

The Minbari are the Oldest of the younger races. They traveled to the stars before the centauri, the Narn, and any of the non aligned.

  • ok but centauri have biggest amry and alot more destroyers and crusaiders than minbari even minbari have better tecvhnology centauri have big chanse to defeat minbay...sorry for my english:)

  • Not true. 100 years before when the Narn Defeated the Centauri, the Republic was on a decline. This was stated by Londo during the Series. The Minbari had alot more ships, and superior technology than the Centauri.

And Remeber the ONLY reason the Centauri could have beaten the Narns, was with the Help of the Shadows. The Centauri would have gotten thier asses beat by the Minbari. To Quote Londo "If you do not mess with the Minbari, then the Minbari do not mess with you"

  • what? when NARN defeated centauri?? centauri alwyas kick nanr asses!!! once centauri rules NARN and second with use shadows!

  • You need to go watch the fuckin series again. The Narn Defeated the Centauri 100 years before B5, driving them from the Narn Homeworld. That was the end of their first war. The Narn Attacked Ragesh 3 in the pilot episode, The Gathering. In the First season a truce was signed, then came Mordan, and the Shadows, and That started the True Second war between the Narn and the Centauri (WITH THE SHADOWS)

  • from the narn homeworld NARN never conquer centari world!!!!!!!!

  • watch?v=Xz6M8F8aJ-Y i dont know mayby we watched different serial heheh ps you have link to download this serial in good qualiti???

  • nope, have all the seasons and movies on DvD. I would suggest torrent sites for dvd rips.

  • if you can on PM send me link i will be greatfull

  • centauri fight on 3 mayby 5 sides at once...narn.drazi ...and another...few centauri crusaiders could destroy all drazi fleet ...there was battle when few centari ships destroy a lot more drazi warships without any problem

  • ONLY BECAUSE OF THE SHADOWS. A Narn Heavy Cruiser was an Even Fight with a Centauri Cruiser. THere is no battle between the Centarui and the Drazi that ever happened in the Series without the shadows involvement. THe Centauri and the Narn had the Same Technology, and of the Non aligned worlds the Drazi were the striongest in military and technology, and the drazi were on par with Human Technology. I know the Series VERY well, And the "Battle" you describe never happened.

  • ofcoure that battle was even on YT you can find this

  • few centaur fas attack shipp without anny proiblem destroy drazii fighters and cruisers ... it was then centari was blocket by interstellar aliance... LOL and you talkin that you know this series Very well?

  • I'm guessing that perhaps your English could use a little more work. But as far as Babylon 5 goes, yes, Centauri ships could destroy Drazi ships easier, but take into consideration the Centauri also relied heavily on surprise attacks - AND what ship can stand up to a Centauri fleet as large as the one they were using when attacking INDIVIDUAL ships?

Do YOU know the series well?

  • @knollik the narn and centarie tec is the same becas after the narn got the centarie off thair world with sheer will to live they took the tec and adapted it so with the same tec the narn strength the shadows are what gives the centarie the uperhand in that but the vorlons gave tec to the minbarie and and after the shadow wars

  • @bluntman1138 Actually the Minbari are not one of the Younger races or of the Older... they are somewhere between, closer to the Younger races but still at a distance.

  • @NCTaikoDrumboy Wrong on that. The Minbari are still considered one of the younger races. In order to be an Elder race, you have to be tens of thousands to even a million years of being a space travelling society.

Deleen herself lumps the Minbari in with the "younger races", As does Lorien.

  • @knollik the centarie have left over shadow tec after the shadow wars and yunger alies of the shadows that is why they are a match for the minbari after the shadows leav. the narn have used centaie tec after they freed them selves on the first war the vorlons and valan gave some tec to the minbarie. humans got make thair own tec intill after the shadow wares are over then the minbari give us tec

  • i cried..........

  • When I first saw this scene I was moved to Tears. This is probably the only time i'd admit it. Cherish it.

    Long Live Babylon 5!

  • the stuff of legends

  • Epic stuff

  • what it's this music??

  • its from the OST - Babylon 5: In the Beginning

  • Does anyone know where the music can be downloaded with out lando?

  • I find it better with Londo - much more emotion to it

  • that is the way to go.

  • Few monologues in movies were ever moving...Londo's one....is near to the top of my list..

  • @mchief190 Vir's speech during the dinner party in 'Sleeping in Light' is also another of the top lines of the entire series.

  • the best part of the movie, the most touching too kudos............. but why the echo in the video???

  • I kind of like the echo, it really sets the theme of absolute hopelessness Humans were facing, and Londo regretting his decision to break a cease-fire by killing a Minbari leader

  • The morale of this story:

    NEVER count us humans out!

  • There are maybe five movies that made me cry, and this one is one of them.. so beautifully heroic and sad.

The only scene as touching as this one I've seen so far is the ending of the movie Hero.

  • I agree. An aged Londo reflecting back on the past and regretting all of the chices he's made through the series. It's a sad ending for Londo, which ironically, fits how he lived.

  • This speech and the visuals that accompy it are bascially humanity at its very finest. There was something about it that gives me hope for the future.

  • I cried the first time I saw this scene. Truly touching visually and the music just makes the experience deeper!

  • When I think about it, the Earth-Minbari-War is like the Pacific War between the US and the Japanese, especially the years 1943-45: The Japanese weapons were outdated, the Fleet and Air Arm were outclassed and the Garrisons were outnumbered on every battlefield. Yet, they made the US-Forces pay dearly for every inch. Of course, on these small Islands, the Japanese had no way to retreat, so they always fought to the last man.

  • LOL, we must be some badasses in the future!

  • In the future? I think we would already do this today. Think about it.

  • there are numerous instances throughout human history, battles involving a force with inferior weapons and numbers would fight to the last man, in the various parts of the world. It is quite humbling to think of those battles.

  • CDN has seen many of those battles the SOMME , JUNO

BEACH ORTONA , VIMY RIDGE , like londo says " i know

    we were there "

  • amen to that.

  • pure awesomeness. i remember watching this tv movie, and man, that was the one scene that really stuck out in my mind

  • Peter Jurasik I salute you...

  • This is one of the best scenes I've ever seen in Babylon 5. I haven't seen an episode since I was a little kid. I didn't even know they made any movies! This clip, among others, makes me want to buy the DVDs--too bad I don't have that kind of money right now.

  • Save up, or shop on E-Bay - the DVDs pay excellent homage to the series and looks great sitting with your collection

  • lwnf360, I agree, that's one of the best scenes ever.

  • can anyone out there post this scene from the beginning of the movie when he first sat down and the children wanted to

hear a story " she wants to hear a true story " up and too the point where it blends into earth central, please and thank you.

  • this is a classic. one of the best!!! Good music Good words!!!

  • only thing i didnt like is that in the end we would have sent out a group far out in the stars.. drowned in supplies for the future to pull a remember the alamo on their ass. History shows that we excell when kicked in the groin.

  • fight right to the end!!

  • I swear Peter Jurasik is like Samuel L. Jackson. The way he talks; he could order chicken McNuggets and make it sound hot.

"They were....magnificent." Just the way he says it makes you nod along like "Yeah, they were magnificent".

What an actor, on a show known for some seriously talented actors.

  • Tell me about it...That man could sell holes to a donut.

  • Whenever I see the vid I get all choked up.

  • Me to :) i especially always loved the scene when one Olympus corvette and a few Starfuries attack an entire battlegroup of Sharlins ^^ They must have known that they would die (any fool could understand that) but still they fought on ^^ magnificent.. fruitless, yes, but magnificent still... ^^ valiant last stand. gotta love the glory-concept :)

  • Me to. Fight till the end.I cry first time when I see this.

  • emo!! shed no tears for the minbari thay want to wipe us out , if so let them pay for every inch of lost land and every spilt drop of human blood.

    NO SURRENDER!!

  • I shed my tears for Olympus corvette and Starfuries attack an entire battlegroup of Sharlins. That is courage.

  • they died.

  • "They would fight for every inch of space" Just like Russians in Stalingrad

  • Just like an animal driven into a corner... it is instinct to fight in order survive if you cannot run away.

  • Only for a few species. A rat will fight, but a rabbit will just freeze.

  • That is evolution in its purest form. In cases where it proved useful to fight, it was included in the evolution. But where it proved more useful to freeze in order hide, that aspect was included.

  • its called Warrior instinct and its what humans do

  • TO paraphrase Mr Mordan, Evolution strives through conflict. And we Humans have been at each others throat since our recoded history. Because of that we have become a warrior race, which is evident through our history of not one year without war. And the Minbari had no idea of this, as the Warroir Caste thought the war would be over in weeks, instead it was years.

  • to bluntman1138:

The earth-minbari-war became a holy crusade for the minbari, because their leader Dukat was killed. They did not care how long it would take, they just wanted to whipe out the humans. Without the chance of survival or escape, most humans would fight instead of staying still and dieing.

I always think, if I die, I want to die for a something greater than myself.Yet, a lot of people have something worth dieing for. I believe it is more important to have something worth living for.

  • Thats deep thedragon133. I feel the same.

  • Meh, he got that from Lorien. :]

  • No, Londo has always been at odds not with just everyone else, but his own personal demons

  • Having a cause worth dying for that isn't worth living for is fatalism, Having a cause worth living for that isn't worth dying for is decadence, you must have both.

  • History shows that we as humans are quite a stuborn people xD

  • It is yet to be proved that we are more stubborn than dumb ;)

  • I like the part before he talks about the war. Lando and the lady know what will be required to rebuild their world. It shows you how truly sad and alone Lando is. They know how hard things will be for those kids and he knows there's nothing he can do to help them with the hard ships ahead.

    It brings me to tears. ;_;

  • actually he died because he was being controlled by a creature in his neck. the only way to temporary disabled it is to put the creature to sleep that's why he kept on drinking. g'kar was there afterwards and Londo ask to have him killed as payment of his sins and his redemption. and they end up choing each other. it's in the series.

  • I always thought an arm shooting the birdy floating in space instead of the helmut would have been better :)

  • You should play starcraft.

  • I think at one point it shows a severed arm in space holding a ciggie.

  • Other than fading at begining and end very well cut ... thank you very much ... this is my fovorite.

  • I always loved this scene. I love the music and more importantly the scene was just great. This is the one of the only movie sequences that has moved me to tears that I have ever seen.

  • i think the battle of the line speech is quite as touching as this scene is. perhaps even more. ;)

  • Wich episode is it ?

  • thats not an episode, thats one of the films, "in the begining"

  • wow

  • Its not Mimibari, its Minbari;) honest mistake though

  • thx 4 the correction :)

  • The Music is beautiful

  • very moving video
