  • Bitcoin!

  • I like the pylons reference.

  • MINECRAFT PIG, who else saw?

  • 1:15 Jackalope watches the simpsons. Also, at 3:39 if you look at the middle right again you see "Math FTW"

  • Middle right, minecraft pig :D

  • Fuck it. Vote for weasel and beat the system.

  • NYAN NYAN CAT 4 PRESIDENT!!! :D

  • Loving the use of Bitcoins! These videos are so informative even if I think i know everything about the subject, keep it up!

  • I Hate this UTUBE ADS

  • @xsoroton Too bad you can block them without making a big deal about it. Don't ask me how. Use google or crawl back from the rock you originally came from, or if not applicable, from the primordial ooze your kind originated from.

  • @xsoroton And oh, use common sense. If it looks scammy, it probably is. The recommendation from my time on the internets I can make is Mozilla Firefox with Adblock Plus, which that extension/"Add-on" may also be available as a Google Chrome extension.

  • too bad mr. minecraft pig isn't running

  • your explanation of politics with animals is so GROUNDBREAKING

  • That animal you called a Buffalo in this video was a Bison. Buffalo essentially look like cows with curly horns. Bison have the hunched, furry back

  • @BruckThatsMe Actually the Bison is an American Buffalo. Just as the Red Panda isn't a Panda and a Panther can be either a Leopard or a Jaguar, depending on the continent, a Buffalo can be both and both can be called buffalo.

Now let's talk about Gnus and Wildebeasts.

  • I vote for Minecraft pig!

  • @averycraves Yes, Minecraft cow isn't cutting it any more :D

  • Why didn't you come with the solution that seems most logical to me? Don't split up the country in diffrent area's where votes count and just use the number of people that voted for the jackalope as the number of votes the jackalope recieved. aka: if jackalope gets the most total votes, it wins the election....

  • Comment removed

  • @robinkuipers93 It wins the election? Which election? Districts exist because each state is represented by a certain number of congressmen, usually more than one. Also, within each state, there are state houses and senates. What exactly are you proposing?

  • @robinkuipers93 "Why didn't you come with the solution that seems most logical to me? "

Well, let's look at the USA for an example. There are 50 states, some based on geography and some based on political lines. Each get 2 Senators and a Representative based on population.

Within the states, you also get a state senator for each district and a delegate/rep based on pop. Where are those lines drawn?

Now let's say it's proportional. Majority rules? Oppression preveils?

  • 0:51 Bitcoins! are there videos on monetary policy? i hope so.

  • Love this!

  • The census taker is sooo cute :3

  • Did anybody else read the jackalope's speech bubble at 1:15?

  • @vexter2009 I'm tired and the wolves are after me....

  • Mine craft pig every year

  • 23 people got weaseled out of voting rights!

  • Minecraft Pig 2012

  • Actually, isn't the best way to fix/prevent gerrymandering is by allowing district lines to be drawn based solely on population statistics and not on historical voting statistics?

  • Damn, Weasel's a badass.

  • Anyone else see the minecraft pig at the middle right on 0:09 ?

  • Who else paused the video to read what the jackalope was saying? :)

  • starcraft reference!

  • Math... The potential solution to everything...

  • Your similes and metaphors in this video entice me.

  • Im loving all of the minecraft references

  • @pkConda i saw it

  • OLPC FTW

  • clever hidden starcraft joke :P

  • I am SO voting for Jackalope in November.

  • @vivaeljason Jackalope 2012!

  • @CGPGrey I think jackalope might be a secret secular free-mason muslim. I demand to see his birth certificate!

  • Comment removed

  • They could also make it illegal to take polls of what political party you are associated with

  • @joeshcosmo They would still have information about how people vote.

  • lol i loved the horned bunny

  • Lol, nice minecraft pig in there at the end.

  • VOTE JACKALOPE!!!!!!

  • Clearly queen lion has the best interests of her people in mine, and should therefore have just remained as benevolent dictator.

  • That weasel is adorable.

  • 2:22 reminds me of pokemon.

  • Is the jackalope at 1:17 quoting Grandpa from The Simpsons?

  • Comment removed

  • 3:57 Minecraft Pig :D

  • well fuck, im confused.

  • @Gunravager What don't you understand?

  • piggy

  • i loved business cat XD

  • If my census taker was actually a daper looking cat I might actually want to talk to him.

  • Do you the narrator for Mywhyu? Please tell me you are. You sound a lot like him.

  • @CGPGrey That jackalope filibuster at 1:19 is from the simpsons, oh good ol' Abe.

  • wohoo for mob rule!

  • Did weasele buy a computer with those bitcoins?

  • Ironically the symbol for money in this video is the Thai Baht (presumably a pure coincidence)...... where corruption is simply put, accepted. (Mixed member majoritarian BTW)

  • HOLY SHIT MY MIND HAS BEEN BLOWN

  • @XGamertech01 its 9th grade american govt

  • minecraft pig

  • Loved the SC reference

  • I used to come here to learn instead of school.... then I took SOPA to the knee. -_-

  • @ShygirlBieber112 I was going to like your comment but I saw that Bieber was in your user name... Have a nice day:)

  • That weasel is too cute!

  • Black or white stone.

  • I'm a political science student. I paid $500 on a course to learn this while you taught it in 5 minutes. Dam.

  • 4:06 java! :3

  • I wish my teachers would have explained things like you.

  • Minecraft pig voting made me lol

  • I've watched most of your vid.s They're smart.

  • 2:29 a subtle Starcraft joke.

  • That's exactly what Republicans are doing!

  • I would assume that's why Australia has preferential voting. We can support the little guy whilst also saying which big guy we'd rather have.

  • i didn't know Cats had parliaments in their 8 lives but i guess its true!

  • actually, this comment was supposed to be for the New Youtube Channels Video, but the playlist changed the video too quickly...

  • Why do we need representatives in nations that give their citizens access to the internet? Seems a little outdated to me.

  • this is great thank you! 90+% incumbency rate explained! I love how you suggest re-hiring the weasel. Sounds perfect. Have an independent commission hire the weasel.

    thanks again.

  • I only got through a minute and thirty seconds until I got lost :(

  • @MultiRavens11 What don't you understand?

  • @macarion Idk, I zone out when I start to get distracted.

  • What kind of politician uses bitcoins?

  • Thanks CGPGrey. Now we know!

  • jackalope?

  • wait wait wait... if the voters vote directly to elect a leader doesn't it eliminate the problem?

  • @gabrieloshiro What do you mean? Voters do vote directly to elect leaders.

  • @macarion technically you vote directly... What I meant is that the winner is not directly elected. See, in Brazil we vote for president. The winner is the guy with more votes. Period. In USA theres this thing that you need to win in separated regions... You might be the guy with more votes and not win (see bush reelection vs al gore) I dont get this... If you remove this system, the problem is also solved, right?

  • @gabrieloshiro That's the electoral college, and it has nothing to do with gerrymandering.

  • @macarion Ohhh now I understand what gerrymandering is... ohh we dont have this problem in brazil... because we dont separate voters to elect representatives.

  • @macarion Actually now I've just noticed that there will be a part 2... so he might answer my question then

  • Hopefully I'll understand this when I'm older

  • Unfortunately, I am now a victim of Gerrymandering. Here is my Congressional district: imgur[dot]com/A70DX

  • @superdude097 That's quite a rorschach district.

  • @superdude097 lol wow... that makes sense =P

  • Simpsons reference at 1:14. Made me laugh!

  • Can you make a tut on how to be a weasel?

  • 22 people are clearly the gerrymanderers in their country.

  • *Sigh* This is why its pointless for me to vote anything but Tory in my area ¬__¬

  • lol wut?

  • I understood none of this.

  • everything's always easier with animals

  • I don't know who to vote for?!

  • I love how clever are those videos, but also how 90% of the comments are barely connected to the topic of the video itself xd

  • this would have helped my AP Gov't class last year

  • I'm pretty infatuated with your voice. Just gonna throw that one out there..

  • @sugarninja1 I'm pretty irritated with my voice, so we balance out.

  • Excellent video, short, sweet, interesting, got the main point out there. Keep up the good work - you have a talent.

  • Or you could just make no voting districts. If we did that in the U.S.A. from the start, then bush wouldnt have been president and things would be a lot better

  • The Jackalope sounds like an old geezer. Did you read what he said?

  • Turtle 2012!

  • Why do you pay the weasle in bitcoins?

  • @DaffyDaffyDaffy33322 He wants an untraceable currency.

  • Y U NO USE GIRAFFE?!

  • What the hell...did you just say, you lost me at queen lion ;D

  • Thumbs up if you read the Jackalope filibuster text bubble!!!

  • U sound like minute physics!

  • 2:33 You must construct additional Pylons.

  • I'm from Venezuela, last year was the Elections of deputies to the National Assembly. This is exatly what happened. Chavez's party candidates won getting much more deputies on the National Assambly just because of how the candidates where distributed. The worst part is there's too litle venezuelan citizen who are aware of this to make a difference, everything is a mess. For me, 100% clean elections, and democracy itself.. It just seems like an utopia.

  • @PaddyCollector he's already done that, its alternative vote explained. :)

  • Solution for next vid- instant run off voting (they have in new zealand or australia) when a voter can vote for two candidates and if your first choice didnt win even with your vote. Your votes gets sent to your 2nd choice. Allowing everyone to safely vote for 3rd party/ fringe candidates and not have to worry about your lesser of two evil candidate losing.

  • My district in NC got redistricted this year and my mostly liberal city got cut right in half into different districts so now the city is cut into two safe conservative districts. Making the liberal majority in the city completely irrelevant when spread across the rural areas close to 100 miles away.

And this happened where I used to live in florida where a district about 2 miles wide but 60 miles long was made along the highway because mostly poor blacks lived there.

    The US is in decline.

  • Ha ha ha!!

    Grandpa Simpson quotes at 1:14!

  • Why can't they just REMOVE all of these ranges and split the representatives exactly to the percentages. much easier and more fair and we don't need weasels anymore

  • where did this come from? some election disputes in england?

  • @0sheldm What do you mean "where did this come from"? Gerrymandering happens in many countries, including the United States.

  • @macarion well ok, i guess i just never heard of it by that name before

  • The future of bitcoins: Accepted everywhere.

  • You must construct additional ranges classic.

  • lol minecraft pig voter

  • Why can't my teachers be like this?

  • @EraixsWorld Making a five minute video for youtube is nothing like teaching a class for an hour and a half to thirty people who don't want to be there.

  • @CGPGrey Or for 20 minutes to fifteen people with powerpoints you made 10 years ago and then redirecting everyone to the textbook to get a head start on their homework. At least, that's the kind of lesser teacher that came to mind when reading Eraix's comment.

  • @CGPGrey Which is probably why the education system needs to be revamped is a five-minute video is more effective than an hour and a half lecture...

Are classes an hour and a half? It's been soooo long since I've been in school. I really don't remember anymore.

  • NEEDS MORE ABE SIMPSON QUOTES

  • Bitcoins for the win!

  • Wow. We learned about Gerrymandering in school, and we learned about alternate voting methods. It about as interesting as watching oil paints dry. (which is to say, slightly less interesting that watching normal paint dry, or grass grow) You made me WANT to keep watching. I just sat through a 5 minute video about gerrymandering, of all things, and liked it! Amazing!

  • A vote for minecraft pig is a vote for tomorrow

  • @DraconicLich Pork chops you can believe in.

  • @DraconicLich Screw that.

    CREEPER 2012!

  • Do additional ranges cost vespene gas? :P

  • 4:53 there is a minecraft pig with real animals!

  • MINECRAFT PIG!

    =D

  • I think I'm in love...with your voice?

  • Poor Queen has a lot to do.

  • Of course, C.G.P. Grey conveniently substitutes reality with a weasel. In the real world, U.S. state legislators determine the committee in charge of redrawing the district lines. The state legislators in office at the time of the census (every 10th year) will hand-pick the committee - the party in power will have chosen a majority of committee members (pure democracy). I'm not saying that the party in power doesn't gerrymander; however, it doesn't happen at the hands of a paid weasel.

  • @jaredschrag This might not have necessarily been about American politics, though that's certainly where the term got it's name from. Many countries hold elections, especially for representatives.

  • Very well explained.

  • minecraft pig party!

  • In the first part with all the animals there is a pig from Minecraft. What's with all these references?

  • The last solution doesn't feel wrong at all. Weasel is paid to deliver a specific service, i.e. to make the jungle as democratic as possible. Since this represents an improvement over split-line and other methods, it doesn't amount to extortion or paying him not to do something bad. As long as there's some oversight to make sure no outside interests are influencing him, it seems like it would work well. Then again, Winner Takes All elections suck, so it might not even be needed in the end.

  • @TheAngryPhilosopher8 Why is a state wide popular vote a bad thing. Wouldn't that be the fairest way, a popular vote?

  • @nkelly1432 I agree. Each state should divide it's seats among the percentage of votes for each party. Districts aren't even in the Constitution.

  • @TheAngryPhilosopher8 What he means is this: They're bringing in a guy who was paid to do something sleazy in the past, and now they're paying him to do the exact same thing, but in a not-sleazy way. To a just ruler, it would be irksome to reward the person who started the mess rolling in the first place, and if people found out it was the same guy, it could be bad politically.

  • The weasel was paid in bitcoins. WIN!

  • "We must construct additional ranges."

    I c wat u did thar.

  • Anyone else realize that this is almost exactly how we draw congressional districts?
