As a Caribbean man and jazz lover I cannot express high enough appreciation for the way these musicians maintained the authentic feel of the calypso played at the time while improvising at their usual high level. Old-timers in St. Thomas who encounter the tune for the first time say, "Ah...THAT's the old bounce-beat!"
Not at all. In spite of what the "hard" in hard bop might suggest, the style it generally refers to is in fact heavily influenced by the blues, gospel, and r&b, hence the "softer," less angular sound.

As one of the tags for this song is 'hard bop' im wondering wether this is hard bop. Isn't much too soft and cool for that genre?
