If dirt collects on the bottom of a bare-bottom aquarium like that, you need more filtration.

A tank like that should have enough flow to push dirt on the bottom toward a filter intake.

Try getting rid of some ghost shrimp. They only eat/clean glasses so as the apple snails.

Other fish could eat smaller fish, so beware.

nothing would happen if the power went out, it is just like holding a cup upside down filled with water in a sink or tub. there would not be any pressure pressing on the upper part of the tank but the pressure pressing from the pond section holds the upper section up.

I treid making one of these tanks and it works !! it is a pain to get it started but if u got right circulation and a good algae eater... the top tank (so far) hhasnt really gotta be scrubbed . my tank isnt quite as nice as this one but I'm working on it...and I bet mine was cheaper.I paid a total of 28 buks for mine(glass cutter silicone and a hose.)(glass got free from the internet).Give it a try ,its not that hard. click my name to see the vid of the one I made.feel free to commnt

pressure of the bottom tank is different from the top

The bottom has a also a cover of the botton tank so it also causes a pressure to hold up on water and even without the electricity it can stay balanced. Kinda like a illusion to your eyes. without the glass thats between the big tank and skinny one it would just *drop* down to the level of water on the button.

there is a bottom part of the tank of glass that keeps the water up so its bascially an illusion since you cant really see the glass at the bottom.

well, these plants are essentialy algae, and algae requires nutrients, water , and light.

give thm nutrients like nitrite nitrate and phosphate, water, and lighting of the right spectrum, and you should be fine!

also, you mey be better off upgrading to a pc or metal halide, or t-5 system

i think Fishfreedom placed an open hose/pipe at the top connected under water at the bottom tank. the function is to exit the air.

I'm seein this tank style more often.. now i really want to get it. I'm tried of the standard rectangle and semi-circular tanks. My fish are gettin massive too, the space is more then enough to entertain them as well as me ^_^. PS: you can tell you take care of them, neglected fish are usually scared shitless and swim crazily.
