When he was growin up, he learned that if you cant physically sing loud enough, just make sure the audience understands every word you say. He still had that sweet southern accent, but he had great pronunciation techniques. Its a subtle thing, but I appreciate it.

I first heard Sam over 40 years ago. And he still remains my favorite singer of all-time. What a singer, songwriter, performer, producer,and, what's been overlooked, what a businessman! Had he lived he would have been unstoppable.
Damn, this guy's voice gets me every time. This is a great song, yet this is by far the best version I've heard. What a talent! What a tragic end! And with Obama's victory how much more poignant his "A Change is Gonna Come" seems now.
My daughter is 31 years old and her name is Mariah. I can tell you for sure she has never heard this song. I wish I could send it to her, but alas, Mariah has no computer. She is in Dallas doing God knows what. I lover her though and ask for prayers on her behalf, she's a precious lamb.

This guy sings it better than the others on youtube but, not as good as the guy on Paint Your Wagon. he just does an amazing job and one day I will find out who he is and play it over and over again.

We had that LP when I was a lad. My dad still has it. Class.Listening it tonight takes me back to 1976. Sam Cooke was/& still is the greatest voice I've ever heard. Colour of skin/politics/history who gives a shite? We can't change it. But we can always love quality. Cheers Sam lad!

I don't even know how to find this version by Ed Ames. Just heard it once on TV on the Ed Sullivan show. It was spectacular...gave me chills. Not to be putting down Sam's version, which is also great. It's a wonderful song.

BTW both versions are great; Ed Ames sings just in a total different style, amazing too.

I first heard Sam over 40 years ago. And he still remains my favorite singer of all-time. What a singer, songwriter, performer, producer,and, what's been overlooked, what a businessman! Had he lived he would have been unstoppable.

Damn, this guy's voice gets me every time. This is a great song, yet this is by far the best version I've heard. What a talent! What a tragic end! And with Obama's victory how much more poignant his "A Change is Gonna Come" seems now.

My daughter is 31 years old and her name is Mariah. I can tell you for sure she has never heard this song. I wish I could send it to her, but alas, Mariah has no computer. She is in Dallas doing God knows what. I lover her though and ask for prayers on her behalf, she's a precious lamb.

Thank you sweetness....Next chance I get, before I'm called home, I am going to make sure she gets my electronics; laptop, televisions, etc...She works hard but is in a bad cycle, no drugs though 'Thank You Jesus' but she undermines her own value. I've even used my vast HR know how to get her an interview from way out here on the west coast, sight unseen, but she refuses to be caught up in the work-a-day-world.
