Does a grinder not throw sparks when metal touches it? And no, jet fuel cannot melt girders, but it CAN weaken them enough to warp under stress. By "under stress" I mean the ones that WERE'NT destroyed by the plane must now hold up the weight of the ones that got taken out.

Look, 90% of the "jet fuel" was BURNED OFF in that initial impact. You can hear the explosion a second and a half after impact. THAT sound is the burning of the fuel. The potential energy of the plane is released on impact, converting it into heat. That's why you see the flash. Another good example is to look at those rocket tests where they crash them into the barrier. You will see the same result As for the tanks? Those are wheel or luggage compartments.

@lukealandrummond (sigh) All of the conditions you speak are relevant in the experiment. The point was intense fire CAN weaken steel, period. When you have already stressed, compromised steel and add intense heat...you have structure failure. The tower collapsed because the outer skin is responsible for holding nearly HALF of the weight of the entire structure. When the outer skin started to buckle, the compromised center center couldn't hold. Physiscs 101

When the weakest support finally gave way, all the mass of that 4" floor collapsed on the floor below it (keeping in mind all of the floors intact ABOVE the weakest support). The impact weight now is exponentially greater than the supports for THAT floor can withstand so it falls. Chain reaction turned into domino affect. Physics 101
@sparky3489 You also forgetting the steel in this...It did not pancake down...It turned lots of the steel to dust...If what you say should happen....Then the steel shouldn't have fallen....and the core collums should have stood....People have already done computer simulations of this....It doesn't fully collapse

This was proven by first hand accounts of rescuers knocking out walls next to doors that were jammed shut. You can't do a computer model AFTER THE FACT when you don't have ALL OF THE FACTS.

Marvin Bush was on the BOD that handled the ELECTRONIC aspect of security and lost affiliation after '98. The NY port authority was ALWAYS in charge of actual security of the buildings. Employees of Morgan Stanley had constant fire/evacuation drills since the first attacks in '93. Fire/evacuation drills were systematically observed after '93 in both all WTC buildings.

@sparky3489 Your physics 101 is flawed. The fire sure didnt melt the core columns and the weight of any unsupported or falling material was not able to simply dissolve or remove them and there wasnt enough material at the base for 110 floors worth of "pancake collapse" rubble. So where were they?

Thin aluminium and a frame built for rigidity deform differently than steel and a plane is not a solid cutting object so why do you think that increasing its speed will make it stronger? What you don't understand, for the 3rd time, is when a mass is traveling at a higher speed, it's destructive power increases hence the breaking up of the plane in contact with the various stationary objects in it's path, ie. steel, concrete, etc.
My comparison of materials has EVERYTHING to do with contact physics as each material type has a specific tensile strength and a breakdown of different impact forces.

How perfect that all energy was absobed by the building and no material failed to enter it, yet most of it fell aprt except for an engine, undercarriate etc and a passport which were majically expelled from the building.
@911Sceptic What you fail to understand is if I hit a piece of steel enough times with enough force, it will eventually get pierced by whatever instrument I'm hitting it with. The same goes true for the plane. The first few inches of aluminum are destroyed by hitting the steel, but after a while, say a few more feet, the steel starts to lose structural integrity. Add more plane and the steel is compromised totally allowing the plane to continue with no resistance to the next impedance. Repeat.

Please show me sparky. Find one for me or at least describe it. Fire a pin at an aluminium block at 12000mph and it will disintegrate the pin (exterior to the block) and partially pierce it but NOT cleanly. 500mph is not even close anyway. Show me another example. That's all i ask. Your logic has to be repeatable.

That ones who built both buildings did keep in mind that plane "COULD" crash into them, so they made it sturdy enough to survive a plane crash for the biggest plane in it's time of being build (which would have been a 727) but at the time of 9/11 the planes used were 767s. The building just weren't made to stand that much of an impact.

Look, 90% of the "jet fuel" was BURNED OFF in that initial impact. You can hear the explosion a second and a half after impact. THAT sound is the burning of the fuel. The potential energy of the plane is released on impact, converting it into heat. That's why you see the flash. Another good example is to look at those rocket tests where they crash them into the barrier. You will see the same result As for the tanks? Those are wheel or luggage compartments.

When you have already stressed, compromised steel and add intense heat...you have structure failure. The tower collapsed because the outer skin is responsible for holding nearly HALF of the weight of the entire structure. When the outer skin started to buckle, the compromised center center couldn't hold. Physiscs 101

When the weakest support finally gave way, all the mass of that 4" floor collapsed on the floor below it (keeping in mind all of the floors intact ABOVE the weakest support). The impact weight now is exponentially greater than the supports for THAT floor can withstand so it falls. Chain reaction turned into domino affect. Physics 101

@911Sceptic I was just going by your example. A brick wall is in no way the same as an entire building full of steel beams, concrete floors and such. A plane is made of aluminum. Not much of a fair fight against a steel structure with concrete floors 4" thick.
If you want to keep comparing apples to oranges, find better apples.

Thin aluminium and a frame built for rigidity deform differently than steel and a plane is not a solid cutting object so why do you think that increasing its speed will make it stronger? Your comparison of materials also has no bearing on the behaviour of materials in contact physics. @911Sceptic Show me where I said increasing the speed of anything makes it stronger. What you don't understand, for the 3rd time, is when a mass is traveling at a higher speed, it's destructive power increases hence the breaking up of the plane in contact with the various stationary objects in it's path, ie. steel, concrete, etc.
My comparison of materials has EVERYTHING to do with contact physics as each material type has a specific tensile strength and a breakdown of different impact forces.

@sparky3489 i know how relative speed affects the destructive abilities of marials thank you :-) - but what you do not seem to have a problem with is that, relative to the steel, the aluminium was strong enough to pierce it yet conveniently disintegrated as soon as it had. How perfect that all energy was absobed by the building and no material failed to enter it, yet most of it fell aprt except for an engine, undercarriate etc and a passport which were majically expelled from the building.

@911Sceptic What you fail to understand is if I hit a piece of steel enough times with enough force, it will eventually get pierced by whatever instrument I'm hitting it with. The same goes true for the plane. The first few inches of aluminum are destroyed by hitting the steel, but after a while, say a few more feet, the steel starts to lose structural integrity. Add more plane and the steel is compromised totally allowing the plane to continue with no resistance to the next impedance. Repeat.

@sparky3489 Show me evidence of another collision where the object being definitively pierced absorbes the energy of the object immediately afterwards and then destroys the object. Please show me sparky. Find one for me or at least describe it. Fire a pin at an aluminium block at 12000mph and it will disintegrate the pin (exterior to the block) and partially pierce it but NOT cleanly. 500mph is not even close anyway. Show me another example. That's all i ask. Your logic has to be repeatable.

Firing a pin at an aluminum block is in NO WAY even close to the mass of the plane hitting a building. Apples and oranges again.

@sparky3489 You know sometimes I wish there were more people like you that KNOW WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT. That ones who built both buildings did keep in mind that plane "COULD" crash into them, so they made it sturdy enough to survive a plane crash for the biggest plane in it's time of being build (which would have been a 727) but at the time of 9/11 the planes used were 767s. The building just weren't made to stand that much of an impact.
