Harry Landers plays Dr. Arthur Coleman. He was the original spokesperson for Taster's Choice Coffee in 60s and 70s, and also played Dr. Ted Hoffmann in the BEN CASEY television series.
It bothers me that it occurred to no one that mindsets are different at the start of a captaincy compared to several years in. So it's perfectly logical that she had the same mindset in Kirk's body as Kirk did several years ago - shouldn't that have tipped them off? It was still a good episode.
lol at 16:50 Doctor Lester/Kirk is filing his/her nails. One would think that Dr. McCoy would notice that and sense something was off...as men generally do not file their nails.
@AFriendOfJesus1. "men generally do not file their nails" Shatner does. so did John Wane and Nemoy. If you don't file your nails they become sharp as razers and as ugly as my nails.
@BondFreek but you don't generally see a star ship captain (at least not in this series) filing their nails......or anyone else on the ship for that matter........
@AFriendOfJesus1. just because you don't see it it does not mean it does not happen. You don't see Kirk taking a crap. That does not mean that he does not.
At 08:39 watch Kirk's reaction when Scotty mentions the name 'Doctor Lester', he almost blows his cover. Brilliant acting by Shatner here !!! It is the little things like this that separate a good actor.....from a great one.

Well if you look up Star Trek slash vids... there is a certain group of people who want to see Kirk and Spock do it... just saying... if they secretly loved eachother... Kirks in a female body... wouldn't be gay... would kinda make for a good episode :D
See that guys? There's a reason you want to stay away from ex-girlfriends. Don't get temporarily paralyzed by the powerful, enticing thoughts of the pussy.
It really pisses me off that Star Trek was cancelled after only 3 seasons. If only it lasted the full 5 seasons :(. At least this show has the greatest legacy of any sci-fi show, if not any show in existance.
@PCpete101 what really pisses me off, is that I saw a rick roll video with more views than this (it had over 30 million!!!). But seriously you are right, the 5 year mission SHOULD have atleast lasted two years!!! But it was good while it lasted I guess **sigh**
@PCpete101 Well yes it had an awesome legacy. Sci-Fi today wouldn't be the same without it. But it sucks. It's predictable, cliche, etc. It's legacy started things like all of the other star treks, star wars, other sci-fi movies and shows.
Interesting, I wonder who wrote this episode--a man or a woman? "It's better to be dead than alone in the body of a woman" I never thought a woman might feel this way. Is it true? Women seem to treasure companionship even before reason; is this why?
Interesting coincidence for posterity to grapple with...
The first episode aired is about a succubus female who exploits men's desires.
The last show filmed was this 'turnabout intruder'.
Generally few in western culture were grappling with female behavior and implications of the social changes. But interesting to note ST's take on females.
I have seen all the episodes again as I did when I was a kid. Kind of sad that my revisit to Trek has ended. Scratch that for I will start over again. Missing episodes can be seen at Hulu or Fancast.
growing up watching the reruns, I am surprised of how many episodes I hadn't seen before. Star Trek TOS is the best TV series ever! It's a shame NBC seemed really dim witted to not continue the series on a more popular time other than Friday nights at 10 PM. I love the main actors. They did an awesome job. The stories were in a classical Greek style, as Shatner mentioned in TVlegends interview. The men and women were very attractive. Live long...
Also, regarding the missing Uhura: Nichols had a singing gig when they were filming this one. She wasn't "squeezed out" by any execs wanting to leave the show with a "white face." She was making more money elsewhere.
She was smart. The network told the show halfway through the season that #3 would be the last, so if she's already making her money for the show why not go get some more lining up a job on top of it? It's not like she hadn't missed other eps, and it didn't kill her Uhura career.
"Also, regarding the missing Uhura: Nichols had a singing gig when they were filming this one. She wasn't "squeezed out" by any execs wanting to leave the show with a "white face." She was making more money elsewhere."
Yeah, it just goes to show that no matter what you try at being PC, you're going to be blamed for it. The political correctness game is one that is ultimately unwinnable.
To those who complain that this is some kind of sexist episode: The girl was nuts. It wasn't that there REALLY was no way for a woman to have any power in Starfleet (look at the "Metamorphosis" episode, or how well-adjusted Uhura was, particularly in "The Savage Curtain."), Dr. Lester never made the cut and she blamed Kirk and herself--more particularly her femininity--instead of accepting it. Kirk sounded like he agreed with her just to be nice 'cause he thought she was dying. Boy was he wrong.
Oh, Captain Kirk you dirty womanizing sexist ... wait, I thought that Gene Roddenberry set his show in a more enlightened future! So how come there is a woman in it that feels that she was cheated out of a captaincy because of her gender? Did Gene think that this would still be a problem in the 23rd century?
Bill did an excellent job portraying an emotionally turbo charged estrogenized female, but Sandra Smith's interpretation of Kirk should have included the trademark pauses and over emphasis on the lines that Shatner was famous for!
At 34:41: "No... I am NOT... captain Kirk... that is... very apparent, I CLAIM... that whatever it IS... that MAKES... James Kirk a living being... special to himself is being held... HERE... in this body!" Ha, Ha, can you just picture it?
vicctorknight, YOU ... have managed TO ... SIMULATE ... Kirk's diction ... extraordinarily well. You obviously know ... a great deal ... YES ... a GREAT DEAL ... about ... the Shatner mystique.
kirk (in lesters body) didnt seem very much like himself either, he was pretty damn quiet in this episode for all the crap that happened to him. i was expecting him to start yelling/ punching people out in this episode but it never came
shatner was excellent in this episode!!! he had me cracking up!! especially with the nail filing at 16:50, the walking at 18:52, and the YOU WILL OBEY MY ORDERS rant!!! LOL
AWESOME awesome episode, from the roller coaster ride of the power struggle to the excellent portrayal of janice and kirk. Loved every miniute of it. Kirk was the best tho, seeing him camping it up and filing his nails at 16:55 was heaven :) Methinx he doth that too well lol.
Oh yeh and the best piece of incidentel music at 28:30 I have ever heard in star trek. that baseline kicks ass.
All these things add up to make it my current all time favourite episode in the series so far.
There needs to be a gap between the beginning of the stream and the advertisements. First time I loaded the page I had to wait 30 seconds before finding out the video wasn't going to buffer unless I refreshed.
What a way to end a series. In which this desparate bitch switch souls with Capt. Kirk. This episode is the last of the 79 episodes of Star Trek Which ran for 3 good but underappriciated years on TV.
Who says Shatner cant act?? This is a very good performance, and not an easy role to play. The female actress who played Janice Lester did a good job as well.

[Spock:] I'm sure we all understand that.

Well, I've seen all the TOS episodes, and
growing up watching the reruns, I am surprised of how many episodes I hadn't seen before.

Gawd, Janice's eyes are so sexy in this... wait a second... or are those Kirk's eyes that are sexy...?

YES ... a GREAT DEAL ... about ... the Shatner mystique.

this sucks:
that was one of shatner's best performances,
the action was intense, seeing as the crew had never really organized serious mutiny before,
BUT IT WAS THE LAST EPISODE! T_T
....so not cool. damn TV networks...

Agreed
AWESOME awesome episode, from the roller coaster ride of the power struggle to the excellent portrayal of janice and kirk. Loved every miniute of it. Kirk was the best tho, seeing him camping it up and filing his nails at 16:55 was heaven :) Methinx he doth that too well lol.
Oh yeh and the best piece of incidentel music at 28:30 I have ever heard in star trek. that baseline kicks ass.
All these things add up to make it my current all time favourite episode in the series so far.

Did Uhura have the week off?

There needs to be a gap between the beginning of the stream and the advertisements. First time I loaded the page I had to wait 30 seconds before finding out the video wasn't going to buffer unless I refreshed.

I always thought that episide when they meet the little person that shows them around his ship in the last scene was the last episode.
But now I know better.

I liked this episode. It had a bit of everything: love triangle, suspense, murder, mutany, male-bonding, professional loyalty.
Bill did a great job acting not like Kirk. I liked it.

I don't mean to be crude, but I am curious.
Does the interest in female body remain when a man is placed in a woman's body?!
If that is the case, then that opens up so many more questions!
orkutster 2 years ago
Of course!
I'm FTM, so I am literally a man trapped in a woman's body. And I like chicks.

Wow, who knew Shatner could act? Great ep, although the ending was a little disappointing, given all the build-up with talks of mutiny and such.
The way the transference back just sort of happened on its own and Spock/Bones/Scotty didn't do anything was an anticlimactic fizzle. Oh well.

What a way to end a series. In which this desparate bitch switch souls with Capt. Kirk. This episode is the last of the 79 episodes of Star Trek Which ran for 3 good but underappriciated years on TV.

They (the crew) should have known right away that it was not Captian Kirk in the fact that he was not trying to suduce the Episode's Guest Female!
