the dry-ice really gave the model a run for its money to sink.....it was almost like the real one on speed of sinking scaled down....if you guys could some how try to eliminate the smoke from the back and make it come out the smoke stacks....the dry-ice could be used as a great sinking effect
heres an idea. instead of waiting for the tide, y not knot a string of yarn to the back to pull it up after the experanent. it can save time and reduce the rusk of the tide carrying the model out to sea. just a thought...
@afflictionzix Yep; we've always tied a fishing line to our Titanic models for recovery. We even have a video of us recovering the model on our Channel page! Great minds think alike. :) Thanks for the suggestion.
I'm sure it would be very expensive, but I wish someone would make a model Titanic that is fitted out on the inside and that could be opened up some way. Perhaps it could be transparent on one side and maybe each deck could be removable to see into each stateroom and public room!
when you make them sink do you put water tight doors that are small enough for water to pass over top of them? and do you also put balast in them? pleas respond
@Sigma0283 We haven't. Adding that many would be a bit redundant because of the scale and the way the model needs to be able to sink. Also, the iceberg damage completely renders bulkheads #1-5 irrelevant. Gotta cut corners somewhere. :)
@LinkinParkFANTron The dry ice helped us "cheat" a little in that regard. As more water comes into contact with it, it generates even more CO2 gas that fills the ship and keeps her afloat for longer. Only as the ice disappears does the ship gradually fill with water and sink.
@LinkinParkFANTron Sadly, we don't offer any for sale. We need to keep them in our inventory for future shoots! But we're working on more how-to videos as we build more, so hopefully we can help viewers to build their own.
@Rapidnadion Hey man, I'd like to ask you! Can you please show me on Ebay a great detailed model of Titanic for 30-60$? Send me a link or just tell me what to type ;)
@Mrgunlover2 Yep; that'll happen someday. In the meantime, we've gotten actual smoke to come from #3 in our splitting-Titanic videos (see the video response to this vid).
@RESHON09 We recover this one after every sinking - we have a video of the recovery process on our Channel page if you're interested! It's called "Raising the (Model) Titanic."
@CaptNemo011 Alka Seltzer doesn't react visibly or quickly enough in salt water - we've been trying it for years with these models. As we stated in the video, though, we loaded up the model with dry ice in this instance as a time-wasting exercise. We weren't trying to be authentic in this one at all.
@oo7101 We still use this model for filming. In a future video, it will serve as a stand-in for the splitting model in some shots. Also, we don't currently give away our models, retired or otherwise. We encourage you to build your own, though!
@htinor96 This is a heavily-modified Academy-Minicraft 1:350 kit. See our "[Model Titanic SPLITS] How It's Made" video, and the website in the video description, for much more information.
Do you think you can somehow make the model to be able to break in half like the real one did, but able to reattach it to the ship for it to be reusable? Like have two parts of the ship that could snap together, maybe?
@LittleLuckk We buy them from many sources. It's pretty simple; all you have to do is Google "Minicraft Titanic" and go to the Shopping results. You can find them for under $50 on eBay sometimes (the splitting model we've built was one such kit).
@starbuckslover556 None of them are for sale at the moment, as we still use most of them! The retired models are usually retired because of a malfunction.
Hey i made one look like it splts by cutting it, and then using a peice of duct tape on the insides at the bottom and glued it together i am still waiting to try this .
ur vids are amazing, although keep the dry ice to the back of the ship...it will give the illusion that the boilers are hitting the icy water. i have the same model and i've been wanting and trying to sink it since i was 14 and i'm in my 30's now and still not be able to do it lol
If you seal off the tops of your bulkheads and put pinholes up top it will slow the sinking down so it does not plunge so rapidly and make it look more realistic. Just a suggestion for fun.
@DCnightcrawler Thanks. Actually no matter what the flood rate is, once the ship reaches the point of critical instability (during the beginning of the final plunge, when the bridge goes under), she's going to pivot vertical in a hurry. It happened to the real ship as well, though due to the scale it obviously didn't look like our models. :) We're continually refining our designs.
@Angrybirds3452 The whole point of this video was updating our subscribers on the splitting Titanic model we're working on. Did you miss that? We'll be filming it very soon.
Hey buddy, I use the GoPro for diving and if you want alot clearer image get the Mako Flat Lens because if you notice that the regular bubble lens on the GoPro makes the picture look a tad bit blurry. Youtube the comparisons. Great Vid!
@stagedivers24 You aren't kidding! We noticed the out-of-focus issue pretty early and read up on all the reports/debates online. The flat lens cover is *definitely* on our shopping list. Thanks for the heads up on the brand name!
Dude I had the same problem with the ballistic thingy too when I sunk my britannic model too. took a while to balance it from capsizing. how'd you get the model to sink so slowly when it fully submerged in the water?
@BasePlateFilmz Ballasting is a tricky process, for sure! As for what we did to keep the sink rate slow - we controlled how much air can escape from the stern by sealing it well. Also, the dry ice helps, as the wetter it gets, the more buoyant gas it generates.
That is easily, the best last moments on the surface, greatest trail into the abyss, I have ever seen! How deep is the area in which you do this? It really looks like the real ship falling towards eternity. Well done.
@PRR5406 Thanks very much! The water depth here was between 7-10 feet, but the biologics in the water give it a much grander feel by limiting visibility.
@Rapidnadion Very sorry! My keyboard was acting up when i gave you that comment. Anyways, Looking forward to seeing titanic with dry ice in her funnels :)
@jessellanos787 We're aware of that, thanks. It looks more like smoke in scale, so that's what we said. But putting it in water most certainly doesn't cause the dry ice to cool. Quite the opposite.
