It's microscopic dust or water. You can't see it unless it reflects the blast of light from a photoflash. For example, if the hills in the distance look misty, then also the air next to you is full of very dilute fog. It's invisible, but the droplets might be seen in the intense camera flash.
Try this: go outside in clear air w/no wind and look along the beam of a laser pointer. Dust!

you do know that "orbs" are created by dust particles in the air, right? there is absolutely NOTHING supernatural about them. what is the most stunning phenomenon with this is the willful ignorance on the part of those who choose to disbelieve that the "orbs" are created when the digital camera's flash hits the particles' surface and bounces the light back into the light sensor. the "diamond" shaped orbs are produced by the lens's bladed f-stop shutter.
and as for the orbs - all pics are taken in very much the same circumstances, same weather, same camera, same amount of people sitting or standing in often the same position. You cant see that because I have not published the pictures without orbs in them but I usually take 3-4 pics in a row, one shows orbs, very often the others dont show any or much less. dust just wouldn't have time to settle that fast.
plus the chevron shaped orbs and the round orbs are both there, same night, same camera, now why is it that in one case the shutter is to blame and in another .... yeah, what really?
and something only the original observer can know: the orbs come when there are "good vibes" - in case of indifference or negative vibes they are never on the pictures.

I've made beautiful "orb photos" with suspended dust. The key is to have just a very few dust motes, and very close to the lens. Even better is a water mist during a humid day. If viewed from the side against darkness, you can *see* the blazing bright specks next to the lens.
But this is totally a camera-flash effect. If your camera lacks flash, or if the flash unit is separate and a couple feet away, then any orbs in photos AREN'T from dust.
I would like to see those, maybe you can post them somewhere. and how do you expain sometimes round and sometimes caret-like shapes and all the various colors and the very differentiated internal structure when zoomed into the orbs? a lens flare should be more homogenous I would suspect.
Here's the important rule: real orbs you can see with your eyes, and sometimes even capture them on photographs. It sounds reasonable - problem is these cheap consumer cameras dont allow for external flash - but maybe I can get it to long exposure an flash by hand. Seems like a good scientific approach and indeed to my recollection nobody saw them except on camera. - but the ships are real :-) so I guess i dont have to scrap the movie alltogether even if the orbs are artificial.
not to get to technical but shutter has nothing to do with it, it's the iris inside the lens. With that said, i have seen some peculiar orbs that are different from the typical dust reflection you get with on camera flash, i'd say it's still up for debate for me.
also.... many of the orbs i've seen come from blurry light sources themselves, not dust, so that could be interesting if the light from something "unseen" is causing it. some of the pics in this video has sooooo many orbs i find it hard to believe that it's dust, would'nt someone notice that, i don't think these people are stupid.
Very nice, I've made also very much UFO photo's they are in the IR spectrum. But I never get them that close. But some look the same like the UFO's on my photos.
I'm inherently skeptical but somethings just make you wonder....

Because they are either too fast or slightly dimensionaly shifted - I have asked the same question and came up with either answer.
You may ask: how can clouds have this odd shape in an otherwise clear sky repeatedly on the same day? Because if its not clouds what else can it be?
