  • Was this on a 777 or 767?

  • LOL, United Airlines will always lack service. They can't ever come close to Asian carriers.

  • Next time you fly to washington, instead of taking a US airline, take qatar airways. I heard that they are one of the best

  • @zm093 Hehe..if someone paid me the connecting flight to Doha I´d love to:)

  • Jeez dude... you really get around. What are your thoughts with Air Canada's first class and/or Business Class? Not sure if you've ever flown with them.

  • @nousername102 Unfortunately never flew them so far

  • Truth be told the United Business seat is far superior to most other carriers... notice that I did not say U.S. carriers... I mean most others PERIOD. They are better that Lufthansa, Air Francem, Swiss Air etc. They are NOT as gppd pr even close Singapore or Emerites but then again they cost roughly 1/3 less. So for the price the United Business product for the actual seat is about as good as you are likely to get. Spending more then you get into the upper tier but United is solid.

  • The United business seats are actually superior to the vast majority of all international carriers. They fall far short of Emerites or Singapore but also cost 1/3 less. Food is decent, again nothing in the realm of best in class but above average. They only serve in plastic while on the ground so that they may quickly collect and dispose prior to take off. One in the air it is all glass.

So bottom line, for the price United is competitive and the seat beats most. I'd love to see them just flat

  • I want to see a video of economy class suffering, this puts me in a bad mood.

  • Was that Chio Chips on the table at 5:40? If it was, was it offered on board or you brought it with you?

  • did you like united business? I'm going on them next week

  • hey Homer, nice video as usual. I know how do you feel ... but you can't compare Emirates with other airlines :-) this april I flew from Venice to New York (through London) with BA in business class and there are no doubts : Emirates won !

  • @AndreaZzzXXX Good to hear from you again..and cordial greetings to Venice:)

  • GREAT VIDEO! Man I so enjoy watching these plane/travel summary...especially seeing the food lol

Also a rare opportunity, saw a useful ad on your video about cheaper business/firstclass ticket; definitely educational.

    2 for 1 Deal :)

  • @watericed777 Thank you very much..although there should not be ads in my vids..maybe its the price i have to pay for letting me use the music..

  • Lieber Herr Homer - have u seen sfflyer123's LH first class FRADFW video?? Tribute to you is noted in it!! Please try to catch it, and you will see how much we all hold you and your reports in such high esteem. Kind rgds from London.

  • @tiara747 Of course I did, my friend, and I very much looved it..just as i looved your very kind comment:)))

  • Well Homer,

Next time you should fly Delta!

Delta's Business Elite service is actual quality compared to united's "Business class"

  • @Deltaguy729 I might:)

  • people, what you need to understand is that this is business class, not first! business class was literally made for business people who wanted premium service but not at the first class fare. I now that this is a u.s. carrier and that the plastic cup was kind of oushing it but just be happy that he didnt seet in economy with the crappy meals and 75 degree "beds"

  • @RandomVideos284:excuse me, but I disagree: business class tickets are expensive, and a ticket like this deserve more. Personally ... usually I flew in economy class in europe (I am from Italy) and in business class outside europe, and I know the difference.

  • Well done homer love your videos

  • Happy New Year Homer and many pleasant flights in 2012. Ha, ha, you have been totally spoiled by Emirates. Regarding your comment about US immigation personel, the first time I went to the US I was scared stiff of them, due to things I had read in the press. However, my fear was totally unfounded and I can echo your thoughts about them. This was before 9/11 and the increased security etc. Looking forward to more of your travelogues this year.

  • @ericperic66 Thank you very much and my best wishes also to you! I am pleased to see someone sharing my experience with immigration in the US:)

  • @homer3152

    nice vid

  • I recently flew with a puppy inside the cabin with Delta and have to say the crew was amazing and took good care of us. They brought my puppy water and let me hold my puppy during the flight. It made it a nice flight for both of us!

  • I have a gut feeling that you were unimpressed by United because you frequently fly on Emirates! Great video, I think that the appetizer actually looked good. Nevertheless, an outstanding video from a unique perspective!

  • @FlightSimmer948 I think you are not so wrong:) Appetizer was certainly ok..but compared to EK very simple, without any fantasy or major effort

  • A question : really in business class in a United Airlines plane ?.oh..catasrophic service with plastic glass for champagne and the food seems economic ration with patatoes chips lol ..."not the class"

  • @MrLagonBleu Yes..plastic in business..amazing..

  • A wrap and chips before landing?! Another reason you won't get me on-board a US airline! Thanks for the report Mr Homer, excellent as per usual! Happy Holidays & wishing you a great 2012 with lots of 'air time' ...

  • @Dubaiification Hello, my friend,,always great to hear from you..very best wishes for 2012 for you too..and many wonderful travels and (hotel) trip reports:)

  • Dear Homer, I guess you're not impressed with United, so sad, but from your video, the meal service is clearly not as good as the ones you get on Emirates and Luftansa. The rotating plate strikes again, twice!! Ha ha ha. BTW, your last comment about the Homeland Security officers, it was sacarstic, no? Lovely seeing your video again, your biggest fan in Hong Kong.

  • @hoho657chan Cordial greetings to Hong Kong:) And btw: the comment was really serious..they have always been extremely nice to me.

  • Homer wich airline did you like the most, from the airlines you have flown so far and is on youtube?

  • @MrMaxxer25 Emirates

  • This is why i never ever recommend anyone flying outside or into the US using US carriers no matter which cabin class they choose because all the US carriers have old planes, poor service, lack of money, manners, enthusiasm, etc.. i could go on and on with negative comments...one commenter is very correct the service of the airlines reflects the attitude and culture of the country and americans never want to bow to ppls feet and treat them with respect. although thanks for ur wonderful videos!!!

  • @Burjjad1 You are spot on !

Travel by SIA, CX, Korean, Lufthansa, Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, Gulf Air and you notice the difference - way better service compared to North American airlines. I am surprised they served you champagne in plastic disposal glasses in Business class ?!!!

I remember couple of years back when I travelled Air Canada : YYZ-FFT ordinary service & the moment i boared Gulf Air: FFT - BAH, service was way better than AC, even though I was travelling in economy.

  • @Burjjad1 , travel on Delta, Continetal, etc...just get pretzels with yr juice ! :(

  • I've been really enjoying your videos. I've been wanting to ask you though... I am vegetarian and I will be flying more often because of my new job; are most airlines willing to be flexible with dietary needs, or are they rigid about their menus? It would be disappointing to only be able to eat 1-2 things off of each menu.

  • @GalaxyofStarrs You should not have any problem. Major airlines do offer vegetarian meals, but you need to request them timely before the flight. Emirates, for instance, offers almost 20 different special meals for Hindus, muslims Vegans, Vegetarians etc, which you can request in advance. Many people request such meals when they fly Economy, even when they normally dont eat them. This is because these meals usually are served first and - many people say - are more fresh than the standard meals.

  • @homer3152 Thank you so much for the information! I really appreciate it. I feel much better now knowing that I don't have to choose between caviar and steak. Eeeww. haha!

I will make sure to call my airlines right away so that they can know that I am a vegetarian.

Thanks again. Keep up the good work with the videos!

  • Homer!

I like the long travel videos!

    Thank you!

  • @gaborba23 My pleasure:)

  • eugh bad service from united airlines :S

  • awesome videos as usuall...but sadly aftr a LONG TIME......still no one else does this!!!

    gr8 one @homer3152

  • @javaupdtae Thank you very much:) Actually, I did not want to bore my dear subscribers with yet another EK trip report - so I waited till I flew another airline.

  • @homer3152

if you can, go on etihad airways, its really nice

  • Welche Maschine? B772/B744 ?

  • @amite100 767-ER

  • what is the song at the ending

  • @roaringriku Little Big Town "Kiss Good Bye"

  • I cannot stress this enough: The airline you fly on will often directly reflect the national culture of its country.

Hospitality and and a sense of duty are not cultural hallmarks of 21st century American society, so it will be unnatural for their airlines' staff to offer this.

Asian airlines are great because these qualities are ingrained in their culture, so it is natural and effortless for them to offer it in their airline service.

  • i have also travelled in united's first class boston to HKG and they served yucky champagne in a plastic cup...

  • @EmiratesEK425 ..well..they called it like that:)

  • @homer3152 yeah...

  • So much for so little. (The BC UA flight that is) The homer vids are priceless.

And Wow the Frankfurt terminal is amazing!

  • @O2BSoLucky Thank you very much!

  • Homer,

Even your "cab ride" on ICE3 is excellent, it is not easy to take video behind the glass partition and obtain such an excellent view.

  • @adamw1944 Thank you very much..you even know the ICE3 :)

  • All your HD videos are excellent. You are one man production.

    I salute you.

  • very nice Love your video's

  • @kaledsal Thank you very much!

  • Sorry to watch how United decreased... "Connoisseur Class" was very good,as it was named the Business Class experience in early 90's (last century...lol)! Emirates, Singapore, Qatar,Korean so much better! Keep the good work..always searching to see your "new releases"! ; )

  • @luizgustavolima ..you will find more next year..did you subscribe?

  • Great video as always Homer! It would be interesting if you could add also short clips from your hotel and maybe some other clips from your destinations! :)

  • @MrNikkertti Thank you very much. Yes, Hotel clips have been on my mind for a long time and I have the material. I might start with the Dubai Hilton on the Creek soon.

  • Mr.Homer! It was surprised by deterioration of the quality of United Airlines.

  • Love your video's :)

  • @shav0nne Shavooonne!!! Wellcome back:)))

  • very nice homer!!!

please look out for my big trip in a week!!

    P.S how time flies.....:D

  • @EmiratesEK425 Cant wait for it:)

  • Great review once again! Interesting to see the difference in services between Emirates, Thai, Lufthansa and United. Unless I can upgrade or have a free flight with miles, I would rather pay the money for a European or Asian product.

  • @golubinci ..not a bad choice:)

  • Gary Farrell (wine from 1st class) is not French! Appellation is Russian River Valley, Sonoma, California, USA. Pinot Noir is very nice though.

  • @btbx11 Aaaahhh Thank you very much!!! I always knew there was something different..it was to full body and sweet and too little earthy and "terroir" for a real Pinot Noir from Burgundy..but did not study the bottle. But I love Sonoma Valley wines anyway..thank you very much for letting me know..pls let me know more about this wine in case you could see it from the vid..

  • Dear Homer,

Merry Christmas and best wishes for a health and successful 2012!

Great video of mediocre service. Typical lack of service (desert as you say)of U.S. legacy carriers. Glad you enjoyed the wide seat but we have a phrase here in the U.S. : "like putting perfume on a pig".

    Safe travels!!

  • @jafongaro Thank you very much for your nice comment..but actually, UA was not THAT bad..although I did not share all my criticism:)

  • Complemented were it was due, and didn't hold back on what needs improved. I think a very good and honest review. Thumb up.

  • @MrSeanToo I particularly appreciated this comment..this was what I was trying to do..thank you very much!

  • Hi Homer!

At last, good to "hear" from you.

Do you realize that you probably have a really big "following"

Off to Burma in Jan.first class with Thai, will be in touch.

    Happy holidays

    Neil.

  • @carmes87 Alway happy to herar from you..a happy new year and good health and many travels to you..hope you will share some of them with us:)

  • i heard the service in airlines like emirates and singapore airlines are top notch.. way better than any american airlines. in fact Air Canada has been rated the top airline in north america recently

  • @jesuistahmid You are right.

  • US airlines are extremely cheap!

  • Hi homer, as always nice to see your vid's I was a bit dissapointed with the UAL service, its such an important service market...I mean think about it..United or Emirates??? I hope UAL gets with the program....imagine what the poor passengers in coach were delt with? Haaacchhiii Mama!!! As alway keep me posted....Felipe (Puerto Rico)

  • @frosa33 Grandes Saludos para Puerto Rico!!!

  • This assessment is consistent with my experiences on US-based carriers. They're no Cathay Pacific or Singapore Airlines. Indifferent crews, inadequate menus and awful wine selections. I'd say CO is the one exception, so try BusinessFirst when you get around to it. Thanks for sharing!

  • @737823 My pleasure:)

  • Even though United do also offer the famous rotating plates, they do have alot to learn from Emirates. Being an american airline is no excuse!

  • @drowzy721 ..but their plates may rewind..check my comment..lol..but i agree..they have a lot to learn!

  • Homer discovers the New World! Cheap champagne has its uses - like getting one in the proper frame of mind to deal with Homeland Security. :) Great video!

  • @dc74me Hehe..Homeland Security is great..wait until you get into Frankfurt:)

  • Great review as always, but I always think "Hey, maybe that FA is new and has no idea why this guy has a camera!" lol. But regardless, very in depth and I always look forward to new ones.

  • @Yanks123809 I told her.

  • Great Video man. United Airline actually really bad airline along with Delta American and Continental. I am not sure about US Airways but heard it ok. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Can't wait for more in 2012 :)

  • @Nihsel101 Best wishes to you..new vids in the pipeline:)

  • Still loving your vids homer, but could allow the text to be on the screen a little longer. I have to pause the video sometimes to read it all

  • @luxurykid666 Luxury kid: you can afford the pauses:)))

  • I know I shouldn't be doing this, but it's so hard not to compare it to the amazing Emirates .. I agree with you homer , the service for a business class flight looked abysmal. Emirates FTW always :) - Great videoo again btw.

  • @waqqy1416 Thank you..EK plays in a diffeernt ligue..

  • @3:32 mein Titel :)

  • That filet looked terrible

  • @emirates202 Well..it was better than many beef plates i had on other airlines..the potatoe mash was a bit bland and dry, though

  • Homer, You are a man Emirates, Your beloved airline.

I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year with new and greats videos.

  • @petrocha All my very best wishes back to you:)))

  • The snack sounded much better than it looked, the presentation was not that of J class.. I love Kalamata Olives. what did you mean by offering better prodedures for the staff?

Always wonderful to see your videos, reports and opinions.. I can't say I am surprised of the shortcomings of the flight... cheers!!

Hope to see more of your work in 2012!!

  • @hmasurg Always gald to "see" you:) Better procedures? I simply dont know whether the lack of service is individual crew attitudes or a problem of procedures. A collegue flew 3 hours after me and had a constant good service. Also: just compare the style how they fill your glasses on Emirates ans here..worlds of difference..many more small things like that..

  • A___HA Look how you bypassed and flew over my city ( Montreal )__bad little HOMER LOL CHEERS my friend and ALL the VERY best to you and all that are close to your heart__'SMOOTH WINDS' my friend~*WAGNER

  • @wagnercite2012 Wasnt really over it..would have waved my hands for you, lol

  • @homer3152 I know that....and you would have caught a few good Montreal bagels from me too__LOL

  • thank you very much for sharing this awesome report with us homer! really enjoyed it! About the service: I think you're spoilt with emirates service haha ;) I love the engine views and enjoyed the HD, may I ask what camera do you use? The service desert reminded me of my ZRH-DXB experience on emirates when FA's completely vanished after meal service ;) Merry Xmas to you and may there come more great reports from you! All the best for 2012!

  • @amandeuce Thank you very much for your nice comment..always a pleasure to read them. It is a Panasonic SD 600 with a Leica lens:) Well..yes..not all flights on EK are perfect, either, but food and beverages are way better. All the best to you for 2012

  • Good news having some friendly flight attendants, that was a nice touch by her giving FC wine.. looked gorgeous in the glass! I'm glad you liked the main course, it seemed a bit old and crusty at first. The cheeses looked boring and were only 2 choices.. The Brandi/Congeac was on request?? and in an Economy style bottle?? not impressive as I am sure you would agree. The clearance was poor indeed and non attentive. did you connect the Audio to your camera while filming?

  • @hmasurg Aaah..havent read from you for a long time..nice to see you back:) Yes..these little brandy bottles you get in Emirates economy class..for free, of course..in Business they serve Hennessy XO from the big bottle. No idea if audio can be connected to cam..i just put the headphones over the micro of the cam, lol. Yes..cheeses were not only boring, but also dry..brrr.

  • Welcome back homer.. and Seasons Greetings.. all the best for 2012!! Perhaps this trip was your Christmas gift to yourself lol.

So what is this ICE train (whats the route?)

No pre-bording lounge visit? or is the same FF/Senator lounge of LH?

This was a 767-300ER, nice to see that they have installed some good J class seats.

The portions were small which is not usual for the famous "big american portions" at resturants!.. looks like too much supermarket quality salad dressing.. am I right?

  • @hmasurg The ICE train is the standard long distance train in Germany. On some routes like CGN-FRA or Stuttgart-FRA you can book it under a LH flight number. On these "flights" the first compartment is reserved fpr LH passengers - you need a LH ticket for this. On other trains it is open to F class passengers.Yes..you are also right about the dressing. Best wishes for 2012!

  • Great Trip Report Homer... it is obvious you know your business class standards. It is certain that little things make a big difference such as cabin tidiness, this really shows that service does relate to unsanitary areas on board. Hope they can better themselves and comprehend that small things in detail do matter and people do certainly notice things that goes on board. Keep the video's coming. Will post a Trip Report next year of Qantas Club Lounge and Qantas Business class here in Sydney.

  • @kinjakid Thank you very much..and hurry pls up with your Quantas report as long as they still fly long distance:)) Really look forward to you report!

  • Great editing and a great vid

  • @MrMessinosta Thank you very much!

  • After all this time, you must of been in shock that the US based airlines are a far cry from Emirates or even Lufthansa. Can't believe they give you a cheap disposable cup for a take-off drink in Biz Class. I've had better food & beverage on TurboJET's Premier Grand Class than in that video, which was a hit and miss. The food portions on the US carriers are disappointingly small, especially Economy Class. Services from the Americans are a disgrace.

  • @hkdiva2015 Hope to see some vids from your experience:) As to US carriers: i was mentally prepared through the great work of our friend sfflyer123:)

  • Homer did you fly United this time because sfflyer had flown Lufthansa on his trip to FRA?

Another great video and posted on the best day of the year :)

  • @19bootsy68 Maybe I flew it despite sfflyer had posted it, lol. No, he was in F class and there service seemed much better. I just wanted to try it out..and i am refusing to fly LH C again as long as they stick to these outdated seats. My very best wishes to you for 2012!

  • @@@@@@@homer u back@@@@@@@@

  • @thejack544 Errr--well???? Lol

  • OOOH CHIPS! :P :d Nice work

  • Great video Homer

  • When was this? The United Colors looks old.

  • @Techfa December

  • wiedermal ein spitzen video :)

  • @austrian19421 Danke und Servus:)

  • finally a video from you homer after a very long break...keep it up :)

  • @29jimmy980 Promise!

  • Excellent video and finally in HD. I really enjoyed it.

  • @adamw1944 :) There are more HD in my playlist:)

  • Ouch. Sorry to hear your experience was not as pleasant as it could be.

  • @NobbyKNobbs It as not that bad:)

  • welcome to america

  • @labtess Really: I always love ariving there:)

  • United ... blahhhhh. Why bother? People fly them because they are part of that alliance and thus rub shoulders with way better airlines (who by the way should tell UA to shape up or ship out). Otherwise what would be of them and their sad service? Ugly uniforms, trying too hard with backwards facing business class seats, and disappearing acts by the flight attendants. LOL And poor Continental now is stuck with them! Wie traurig... :-(

  • @shocknit2dacurb Give them a chance:)

  • WHAT IS THE TOP AIRLINE YOU'VE FLOWN & WHY?

  • @quixgofar Emirates

  • when i saw you posted a video on your experience flying United, I knew you would be in for a disappointment; perhaps other United flights are better than this (and I'm sure they are) but compared to Emirates or Lufthansa on average United is definitely behind

  • @quantumslip Yes. I talked to a purser about it and he said: we cannot compete with them. But they are an american carrier..they can DO IZ if they wanted..but do they want? Sometimes I flet they were more flying for the trade unions..

  • If you won't say I will. The USA is not cool anymore. Since 2001 we've been on the decline. Let your other vids compare to this one to show how far behind we are. I only hope now that Europe is on the skids our friends across the Atlantic become less cool. too. As always thinks Homer. Americans, take note.

  • @TalksWithDirt Wait, typo, I hope Europe does NOT become less cool like the USA has become now that they have economic hardship too. Sorry about that.

  • @TalksWithDirt Come on: America will do it..it such a great country:)

  • @homer3152 I hope we live up to your generous outlook. I fear America is not what it used to be. Germany is a heroic nation for Europe this year. I think when the dust settles the Western world will sit back and take note of the German way and consider it for themselves. I guess every nation in the West has it's time to teach the others. I think maybe it is Germany's time at bat. Again, thanks for the vids. Wonderbar!

  • Poor Homer - It must be a shock to fly the US Airlines when you are so used to Emirates. It is sad that United is one the better US Airlines out there - I feel your pain !!!

  • @jimmah55555 Well.., the Burgundy helped during the first part of the flight:)

  • It was smart that you got a nice burgundy from first! You are such a charmer! I have never gotten a wine from first when their wine in business class wine was out. The cheese selection was quite poor, wasn't it? It was unbelievable how many glasses they left there without clearing it. I likt eh signature rotating plate of the wrap! Your video was simply, excellent, Homer. Just excellent. I have two questions, which I will ask on my next post. I really enjoyed this video, homer!

  • @sfflyer123 Cheese was also very dry..brrr.There was a new Beta version of the signature plate..did you realize?

  • @homer3152 Yes, very nice, homer! The reverse move on the rotation of the plate!

  • Love it! "What they call champagne... and it tasted just awful". Just awesome! You just spanked United! Good to see that the champagne after takeoff was better. I like how you spanked them again: "not impressive at all for Business Class." United does the 'bait & switch' with wine. They say that they have a wine, but in reality, it's not even on the plane. They put it on the menu for "show", and in reality, they give you some cheap $10 malbec or some nasty, cheap Australian shiraz instead.

  • @sfflyer123 Thank you so much for your wonderful comments!!! On the way back, btw, I had a very low voice conversation with this Finnish FA in the galley..after 5 min. a guy slid off behind the curtain..ran to the front..and then the purser came and sent me back to my seat..I wondered whom they were flying for..the trade unions, themselves, or..well..wasnt there anything else, lol?

  • @homer3152 Thanks for the info abou tthe LH cabin on the train! I will try this one day. It looks great! Happy New Year, homer!

  • @sfflyer123 Same to you my brother in mind or better "brother in trip reports":) Very best wishes for 2012, I am really looking forward to all the videos hopefully to come from you..keep up your unique, wonderful style and sense of humour:)))

  • you and sfflyer can converse now about united!!

  • @rippinrm389mx We are in the middle of it, lol

  • And what camera are you using now?

  • @techdron Panasonic SD600
