  • Comment removed

  • Oh no! Gillan on the bongos!!

  • @pteeng1 gillan always "played" on the bongos

  • All I can say is WoW! Where the hell was this amazing footage hiding!

  • @crazze6163

  • 40 years later Roger Glover still looks about the same.

  • Love those Eastern licks, Ritchie!

  • Ha...today's ADD generation could never sit through a 10 minute improvised jam!!

  • This may be hard to believe, but I came up with a cool guitar riff for a song, then I see this video and what do you know it was the intro riff.... So fuck I can't use that riff now!!!!

  • Hello young generation! Have you ever seen any singer or band nowadays that can do this or at least close to it? No? So take the chance and enjoy it!

  • they're great but still... Zepp's are my stairway to heaven :)

  • great to see musicians excist

  • when I listen to this particular performance, I ask myslef - what could possibly rock music produce better than this? And I've been asking this to myself for the last 40 years...

  • @Seafroggys...so was Ian Gillian the first singer or was it Rod Evans? Either way the early era of D.P. rocked the most...the first 4 albums I have got from the demonoid torrent website and they are all vinyl(the sound is superb). the instrumental song called grabsplatter is a single you should hear! Anyway..thanks for the correction! Rock on!

  • @cclip46 Yeah Rod Evan was the first singer, he was with them probably a little over a year, but they released three albums (Shades of DP, Book of Talyisan -sp-, and the self-titled). Its a different sound, but still good. Their self-titled I would say is on par with the Gillan lineup, if not solely because of the song April.

  • Rod Evans singing sounded better on this song.

    Too much screaming.

  • Look at that stack..... :O

  • Love those MARSHALLS !!! Will

  • Sounds a bit like Hendrix:) Amazing!

  • Its a shame that D.P. went thru so many personell changes after these particular members....This era of D.P. ROCKED! Liked them better than Led Zep. (I know thats sacrilege...sorry) Jon Lord's Keyboards have no equal! GREAT ORIGINAL LINEUP! THE BEST! PERIOD!

  • @cclip46 This wasn't the original lineup, but its the most famous one. They are freakishly fantastic though, and I like 'em better than Zep too (although Zep's still great)

  • 2 groupies were too drunk to vote

  • Look at this POWERFUL MACHINE of Great and Fantastic Music......

This Five Extraordinary and Outstanding Musicians get into trance, Join their Souls and Supernatural Talents together, become ONE MAGICAL ENTITY and create the MOST DIONISIAC and FINE MUSIC ever.

    LONG LIVE TO DEEP PURPLE!!!!!!!!!!

  • awsome quality

  • I would like a direct audio feed off of Gillan's bongos so I can send it to Not so Modern Drummer magazine :) This guy has been putting Blackmore down for the last 15 years in the press. Today's Purple is nothing like it used to be. Blackmore provided the darkness and the uncertainty which was what made it interesting.

  • Theeeeeeeeeeeeeee Bestttttttttttttttt Everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • mark II ... The best line up ever!!

  • 1.11 SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!RITCHIE YOU ARE THE MAN.

  • Is this taken from a dvd?

  • This is kinda a rip of Jimi's Foxey Lady

  • @5150pb haha i was singing that song during the intro

  • I love the color purple

  • Very good song.Great band

  • Always reminds me of the doors this song!

  • Love this old footage, but it's weird to see Glover making noise the way Blackmore was doing it, rubbing the neck against the cabinet. :D

  • rod vale mierda >:( queria echar a ian paice y a ritchie blackmore

  • Esta cancion me gustaba mas con el vocalista ROD EVANS

  • They need Rod Evans

  • @Fongolitus

    erm.......no

  • I think Rithcie had just listened to foxy lady

  • I must check this out once a week or more ~ it's GREAT ! As for the young ladies, I'd venture to guess they found some LSD to enjoy

  • just unbelievable!!! Master Blackman did it again!!!

  • blackmore in t-shirt?!?!?

  • blackmore in t-shirt?!?!?

  • why did it take 40 years for this video to surface

  • Ian sounded a bit like Jack Black when he said Brain

  • great...Gillan always drunken as usual (see his eyes fixed)...but he sings pretty well...

  • I just think 'drunken' is a little harsh, unless I'm missing something I don't see ten sober singers doing any better.

  • what dope are those ladies on?

  • i want that marshall wall

  • Wish Rod Evans were singing!

  • Blackmore was quite open about his Hendrix influence. Many Purple songs seem to have an influence - in fact the main riff to Black Night was a direct rip-off from from some early 60's version of Summertime. Nonetheless, it's rockin as fuck. I mean, it's rock and roll man, it's all ripped off from black artists anyway. Similar riffs are found everywhere - but doesn't mean the songs are the exact same.

  • Wow, deep purple plagiarized Jimi Hendrix's 'Foxy Lady'.

  • @JakeHolmes67

Hendrix was honoured - not disgusted.

  • What amazes me every time I watch these oldschool guys like Ritchie- HOW did they manage to keep Strat in tune with classic tremolo system?! Way before any floyd roses appeared:)

  • @individrus He didn't, he would tune often during songs.

  • @individrus He'd tune during songs.

  • Wow this has great quality! :P

  • FOXY LADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • foxy lady! foxy lady! Who ripped off who? Jimi or Deep Purple!?!?!?

  • fuck you

  • @siuwilly I knew it that I've heard this riff somewhere before xD Rtichie had tendention to ripping off somebody's riffs ;p For example: Black Night, Lazy etc. But this is just little inspiration here ;D

  • Prople! I need your help! Where can I download "Mandrake root" with Gillan and "Kneel and pray"???? I need!!!!!!!!!!

  • I wish i was there, man, bands just dont do it like this anymore!

  • Fantastic video.....

  • Chicks.....!!!!!!!!!!

  • 5:40 lol. That's more than high, that's high high.

  • They really took hard rock to a level no one else did, and set a standard for that genre.

  • uhhh de ahhhh where on earth was this hiding...

  • @MikeHirsh Exactly! WHERE? I want this whole concert, looking it up right now! :)

  • So thats where the warbling rock voice originated from.....

  • @noahwayne I think it was Arthur Brown in 1968 actually.

  • i ve 'bought the album :"in concert"70/72....

great live album as the "made in japan"....

you could find ,approximatly the same version of "Mandrake root"....

  • Love it!

  • No band ever took it to this level. So ahead of their time.

  • yeah, i think so too ! the best band ever!

  • is gillan holding his left ear because ritchies amps are on so high volume? :)

  • yes and no, if you put your finger over your earhole when you sing then it makes it easier too hear whether or not your in tune and i expect he's doing it here because he can't hear himself well otherwise

  • maybe...

  • Back when it was about the music and not the show.

  • and even then the show was better than it is now

  • The greatest rock band ever!!!

  • @nikolagiga, with Zeppelin!!!

  • Holy Crap! Last time i watched this it was horribly blurry and fuzzy, which i attributed to the video's age. this is awesome!
