Of course, the second 50 years of MGM's history has involved a shutdown of the studio for several years, a buyout of United Artists, a takeover by Ted Turner that not only failed but robbed MGM of their history, two failed takeovers and constant teetering with bankruptcy. And Kirk Kirkorian.
The worst part is they run the risk of being dismantled, piece by piece (with the Bond, Pink Panther and Hobbit franschaises all being valuable commodities).
Sadly, the best thing that could happen to them now is an outright buyout by either TimeWarner or News Corp. I prefer the former.
@myronfalwell what makes it so depressing is that TimeWarner pasting that godawful WB shield with every movie library it devours. like it was never a MGM or possible UA release. So you had two great studios gone in the dust. MGM the Cadillac of movie making and UA the great "Independent'
MGM is just as guilty with UA's library by plastering their logo over UA's. Worse still, it's not even done consistently, as some intros will even include the "current" 2002 UA logo as well.
which is true and I agree w/ you. you have to remember, historically UA used different logos. Or some times not at all in their intros of a particular film. You know I even caught Rocky III with the original UA intro on TV a few times, at least they were genuine, but it sucks either way.

@myronfalwell
It's pretty sad what MGM has been through since their golden age. Now they're BATTLING with bankruptcy.

Always loved this logo...so subtle- like, "we'll be starting our next hundred years right now."
Looks like the beginning of "That's Entertainment!"
