I'm 100% sure that this ram dont bring down a real fortified stonewall..even Romans use other technic such as siege ladder and digging through sap point to make the wall colapse
The rammers cheated by building a wall that is paper thin and has no backbone. Try a real fortress wall and then add some realism by throwing boiling oil on them.
@sok8888 Yup, the wall looks pretty flimsy. The grout's not dry, the inside filling is't thickened. But there were some walls of that design, their purpose was to fend off less determined attackers, than romans. When the walls were too thick - they just used siege towers instead :) Of relatively the same design. "If you cannot get through - get over it" Or undermine, whatever...
Doesnt help its a bunch of gay interior designers and nerdy science geeks acting as the man power to operate it. They should have had real military soldiers putting their back into it. It would have come down much faster
I don't believe this. Even Roman walls were built tens of feet thick, and such rams are too big for a mobile army. Guys manning the ram should be inside it so they are protected from enemy fire. which is why rams are roofed.
Good observations. There are a couple of other things that also kinda don't make sense. The opposition looked in horror as they brought the beams up? Why didn't they just attack before giving them a chance to complete it?
@baabaaer Siege warfare on this scale wasn't seen in France, Britain and the Iberia during Roman times as it was seen in the classical world. When the west Roman empire dissolved there continued to be no great seige warfare. The concept of using a big ram to smash your way through stone walls either wasn't applied or wasn't thought off. Remember, stone fortifications in these area's (and Germany) wasn't truly thought of up until the 12th and 13th century. By then extremely powerful

There was absolutely no hurry. The point was not to tear the wall down as fast as possible, but to prove ancient weapons could do it.
And a lot of soldiers are gay too thank you very much. Up until recently they weren't even allowed to say it as long as they were in service.

Because it's out of range? Just because they can see it, that doesn't mean they can attack it.

@baabaaer They were built on site. The show also shows the roof, but they didnt' build it because there is no enemy fire.

@CruelSculpture I already knew that. But why not Medieval Europeans use the same methods again? Maybe the walls are becoming thicker.

@baabaaer trebuchet's and mangonel's were in existence. Not soon after that gunpowder weapons were starting to emerge.
