  • Hello, thanks so much for posting this. I remember when this happened New Years Day Murders. It was and Uncle and Nephew that was responsable for the horrible murder. They also murdered one of the killers girlfriends, Ashley Basketville and her parents, i do believe. I read that the only reason they picked the Harvey Home, was because their front door was open. Thats right!!! The Harveys were expecting company for their annual New Years Day party. I pray that they are at peace now,God Bless them

  • so sad watched it on Id last night not only them another family too so so sad

  • i just read on wikipedia today that one of the men responsible for the killing of the Harvey family is scheduled to be executed this Thursday.

  • I'm the guy who took the photo at 0:22 (which is also on Bryan's page at Wikipedia). I'm glad to see the image put to such good use.

  • @hbobrien It's a great picture and thank you for being okay with me using it. Bryan was a great influence on me and I had to make a tribute. I was just starting out with video and I plan to remake a better one. Cheers! x

  • i didn't know the family but i've been a Richmonder for about 16 years now. I just read the T.D. article about the bridge thats just been dedicated to them near Forest Hill.

Its hard to hear this song without feeling gutted. I hope the family knows how much they are missed by so many.

  • I was so saddened to hear about this. I saw HoF three times in Toronto, the second time after the show I was lucky enough to chat with Brian, he even showed me some of the chords to "Crack in the Sidewalk". We talked about guitars and recording. A classy guy. I can't even begin to imagine the horror that his family went through.

  • the 2 mosters who took this family should die a long suffering painful death,I would love to watch with a big smile on my face. RIP,Bryan,Kathryn,Stella and Ruby.

  • @VeldinJoe

Won't bring them back though Joe.

Let 'em rot in prison, much better.

  • i understand its just a shame that we live in a world that has these kinds of things happen

  • @VeldinJoe

Oh I totally understand Joe and I remembered Kathryn form my days @ Tex-Wisc. border cafe as a prep cook. I saw H.O.F. many times and they were a beautiful family. The perps of that heinous act will have to remember it all their lives and death for them would be an easy way out for those brutes.

  • yea i dont know how u can cause so much pain to such a peaceful beautiful family. I no it will not bring them back. I always thought whiping people like the killers of the face of the earth would make the world a safer place. Wasnt 1 of them on the death penilty?

  • @VeldinJoe

Oh yeah Joe in Virginia it's automatic that they face a death sentence. Im not sure which ones exactly but cold blooded 3rd degree murder is an instant death sentence in that state.

So you may have that wish fulfilled. I suppose them sucking tax dollars is not too pleasing to me either.

  • Breaks my heart everytime I see this.

My friends and I would go see House of Freaks everytime they were in Baltimore or DC. One time we got a chance to hang out with them after one of their shows. Brian Harvey was one of the coolest, nicest, most down-to-Earth guys you could ever meet!

RIP Harvey Family. You will be missed but never forgotten.

  • Why has no one posted some of their Music!!!!

    TANTILLA

  • I love the music, and couldn't believe it when I heard the awful news of what had happened. Amazing songs, with real talent and heart. We should all do what we can to get the word out about the music.

  • Why is none of their music posted?

TANTILLA was an album of hits!

I can't believe their music is silent!

    'The World Of Tomorrow's' loss!

  • I had the pure joy of seeing this band many times in Los Angeles, and writing about them. They did the no bass thing way before the White Stripes and Hott was insanely good.

  • "Is there vengeance up in heaven? Are those things left behind?"DBT

  • against all i should or want to believe, the only feelings i can bring up, are there is never enough rope for those who wander the earth taking lives my heart is broken there is nothing perplexing about this crime, or the fact that it happend, what is perplexing, is that these two "people" still rob our oxygen

  • Whenever I go to lock my door I imagine them whispering in my ear. I'm so jaded because of this that I don't think I believe in ghosts and angels, but I really want to.

  • I never knew them, only through the terrible news of the media, but this act was so brutal and random that it has never left me. I now lock my doors throughout the day...because these evil monsters found a door open and ended the lives of 4 beautiful people and changed the lives of hundreds. This is a beautiful dedication and memorial.

  • So sad. It hurts.

  • Three years later we still remember you well. Thank you for this and for so many other amazing songs.

  • I'm sixteen years old and I think I'm the only person in my high school who has even heard of House of Freaks. Oh well, I love them... I highly recomend getting the album "Tantilla", if you don't already have it.

  • This is decidedly un-Harvey of me, but I cannot wait for the day when I hear that the two creatures who did this have taken their last breath. It's so painful and awful to know that where this family filled their space with love it can be so quickly displaced by evil. Having said that- support "Not With These Hands". We all need to make an effort to be kind, give coffee and food to strangers, play beautiful music, keep strong the beautiful memory of Kathryn, Bryan, Stella and Ruby.

  • I loved their music... Thank you Bryan. I remember you well.

  • Amazing and sad story, fitting tribute unfortunately. I know he is missed, and I have only begun to explore his legacy. He will live on.

  • I read about it on wikipedia when I looked up the house of freaks. It's extremely shocking. One lacks the words for such crimes.

  • I knew both him and his wife, they were very awesome people, so perplexing and such a loss on every side..

  • The Harveys were just like one of any of us. Thanks, t, for the tribute.

  • Sad news.

Please post "The World of Tomorrow" by The House of Freaks" from Tantilla.

    Thanks for the memorial tribute.

  • thanks for posting this. I was driving in to work this morning - driving and rocking to Invisible Jewel - decided I should check on youtube and see if I could find any live HOF jems and came across your tribute. It's so amazingly sad to think that one human being could do something so horrid to other human beings just trying to live life. how do people become so evil?

  • Wait. I meant 1/1/06.

  • I was born and raised in Virginia. My brother still lives in Richmond. I was home from LA for the holidays when my brother woke me on 1/1/07 with the horrifying news. Glad to see that someone on YouTube still remembers.

  • I met Bryan Harvey in 1989, when House of Freaks opened for the Smithereens in Raleigh, N.C. My brother and I walked around behind the venue and ran into Bryan and Johnny Hott. They were both real down-to-earth guys, especially Bryan. My brother didn't have a ticket so Bryan put him on the guest list. It was a great show, and later I picked up the Tantilla CD. Why do things like this have to happen to people like him?

  • I know exactly what you mean mate. It simply broke my heart. Such a brilliant person. I imagined him down to earth. How wonderful it must of been to of met him and Johnny Hott To see them live no less. They were a pregnantly large influence on me and music. Not only were they good musicians but they the lyrics were just so very honest. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.

  • @raunchboy - I was at that show too! So amazing that they had such incredible sound from just a duo. Became an instant fan that night and followed them from then on... RIP Bryan.

  • So tragic.

I was a fan and followed the story.

  • I'm just learning this news about Brian and his family now. Devastating. Tantilla is one of my favorite cd's fom the late 80's early 90's.

  • House of Freaks were one of the best live bands that I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. I first saw them open for Midnight Oil at The Fillmore in SF April of 1998 then had a chance to talk to Bryan about a year later at the Cactus Club in San Jose when the band was touring for the release of Tantilla (opening for Concrete Blonde). He was one of friendliest musicians that I have ever had the opportunity to talk to.

  • I saw House of Freaks in DC at the old 9:30 Club on F street in '94. It remains to this day the best show I've ever been to. Brian and his family are truly missed.

  • I miss him. What great songs!

  • WHY WAS THIS CRIME NOT A NATIONAL NEWS STORY? Tell me that why don't you. The monsters killed not only Bryan and Kathy but the two little girls Stella and Ruby. They all were bludgeoned and had their throats slit. Only of the worst crimes I ever heard of, and that includes the Manson murders, the O.J. Simpson murders, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, etc. One of the absolute worst.

  • @cynthiacher Why?... because the perpetrators were Black and the Harvey family was White. In the USA Blacks are slaughtering Whites and Asians constantly and the media hides the truth because of Orwellian political correctness. Google: Wichita massacre, Channon Christian and Chris Newsom... the list goes on and on but most people will never hear of these horrific crimes.

  • I met Bryan and John when they played in Toronto at a small club in '88. There was almost no audience for them that night but they played their hearts out. We knew ever tune and sang along, as they played every one we asked for They sat with us for a couple of beers between sets and also after the show. One of the best nights I have ever had. Bryan was one of the coolest guys I've ever met.

    Thanks for crossing my path...

  • Brian was one of the few musicians in Richmond that could laugh at himself and didn't take himself too seriously. Although he had every reason to be conceited he was humble to the end. These young musicians in town are clowns full of self importance and no talent. An era died with Brian.

  • Here here. Such a colourful way to put it sir. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.

  • I remember seeing them at Paramounts Great America in Santa Clara Ca. They opened for Midnight Oil

    R.I.P. Harvey family

  • Thank you for your comment. It must of been a rather grand experience to see Brian play.

  • Ohhhhhh yes!!!

  • My heart was crushed to learn of their brutal murders right after "discovering" his music. Listening to "Monkey on a Chain Gang" and Harvey's almost prescient lyrics broke my heart. Now this song... What an artist.

    Rest in Peace, Harvey family.

  • Brilliant. Thanks for that.

  • I had been searcing for an old house of freaks album I had in the late 80's when somebody broke the news about Bryan - fuckin awful!!!!

  • Nice tribute...

  • One of my favorite bands... R.I.P. Bryan. You will be missed.
