27 people couldn't play the first 4 measures of this song if they had to. I'll bet a lot of the people who clicked like (including myself) couldn't either.
WOW! I am in shock to read any negative comments about Steve Morse, or His playing ability. I have been listening to Steve from the beginning, even with the Dixie Dreggs. I have heard many say that His playing style was not for them, but I have never heard that His playing sucked, or lacked feel. Steve, and Dave LaRue are the music worlds best kept secret. They can play any style, and they shred. Props to Rod Morganstein on drums.
@niptodstan yeah i agree, his playings just so sterile and perfect, its like a computer, i mean if he made some mistakes it'd add that nice human element that we all seek. also his bends sound so perfect he should just slide up 2 frets instead lol, dontyathink? steve morse, more like all-speed-and-no-feel-orse. right guys?
@niptodstan seriously?...I mean, seriously? Steve Morse no style? If you've drawn your conclusion from this one song, get a clue, if you know Steve Morse and still don't like him, then you have no taste
You are here to rip off technique. Are you not? I suggest a visit to Marc Bonilla. Afterwards... Imagine the two of them in one band. Morse is at the top plateau along with Bonilla.
Who the hell said this needs lyrics? Requiring Dregs-stye fusion to have words is like asking great classical composers to add lyrics to their symphonies. The notes ARE the words. Oye Vay!
Holy Bat -Shitman!!! Morse is like the John Coltrane of guitarists. Does he ever mention Steve Hackett as an influence? I love how they both "sing" through tone and technique yet still play "millions of notes". His fingering technique looks painful as all hell.
@1wizardofx I think he always speaks of Beethoven as his biggest influence...in a same breath, he says that he can never match his genius. That's how humble he is.
@ZeppelinRules Considering how good he is and how so many others who should be licking his feet think they are exceptional artists, it's quite refreshing to know that there is a man who knows his limits. I really don't know what you were trying to say... But that's OK.
he fucked it up a little bit but hey....lol look at he's doing...he like saying hello to the members of the band...laughing...hes not even looking at guitar..lol look at what his doing on the smoke on the water live video...
@langestock how dare you suggest such a thing. I was just pointing out how the lack of lyrics is inspiring; leaves room for you to make your own up! STEVE MORSE IS FTW DUDE!
@tekslilbrat And you sir, are an oblivious dumbass. I clearly stated that the song IS awesome. I never once said it NEEDED lyrics to be awesome, nor did I suggest Steve Morse LACKS talent. You're statement is invalid and irrelevant, have a nice day.
Wow. Steve Morse is one of the top few guitar players. He is just amazing! I got some of his sheet music and its so incredibly hard and awkward stuff to play. I just don't know how he does it! Amazing!
@jmurphy914 The explanation is simple, actually: one part genius, one part ability, one part amazing work ethic, one part love, and the rest is practice, practice, practice...
@Dihnekis Noodly? Well, he's playing it live - and he usually plays it as an encore, so he's saving one of his most difficult songs (and that's saying something for Steve Morse) for last, which explains the noodly nature. I would suggest you first find the sheet music for this (go to his website) and work it out for yourself. Once you know it, you then need to try playing it at 192 beats per minute. Then do a whole concert of Steve Morse tunes and then try it at 192. Steve. Fucking. Rules.
Of course he fucks up some times. He's a human. Nobody is perfect. That doesn't change the fact that he is one of the greatest guitarists who has ever lived.
How many guitarists could take on an audience with just a bass player for backup and still be spell-binding? Truly one of the great guitarists of our generation, and my personal favorite.
@TheErtzuinianer Original signed guitar of Steve Morse? He's only had two main axes in his career: his original "Frankenstein" telecaster (a Telecaster with a Stratocaster neck and 4 pickups/associated switches), and his current Music Man Steve Morse signature model, which he's had for over 20 years. The Frankenstein is put away, and he uses the MM daily. Steve signs zillions of his signature guitars (I have one with his signature), so I'm guessing there's little extra value to a collector.
@TheErtzuinianer Steve signs so many things; after every show he makes himself available for his fans to sign anything they can carry. Hell, I had him sign my Ampeg V-4 at a guitar clinic...
omg. larue looks the same here as he looked in g3, as he looked with satriani, with petrucci, rudess, how come he has that skill to remain the same looking guy lmao
I heard that he actually flew planes for money while he was off. If talent equalled money, this guy would be a billionaire. American idol makes a truckload of money while real musicians struggle. BULLSHIT!!!
i like how his fast playing is also clever. Especially comparing to most "shredders" out there. The guy know how to play AND compose. And on top of that he's a really humble person and is that respect reminds of another trully great and professional musician, George Benson.

@itsYiovan, Wow, it is amazing that you noticed that. For any musician looking to point out mistakes, understand your comment is your opinion. If you have the knowhow download this and listen to it at slower temp. You will find that there are many times (especially on the B part muted on the chords with thumbs) where this is not up to par with the album. That is not what being a musician is about. Morse is beyond any critique you can give, I wish I had time to go into this.
@panhead1219 on the large part you're right. but once when he was 7 he was making breakfast and he tried to pour milk into the bowl and missed. milk went everywhere! but yeah since then he's never fucked up
The best I ever heard Steve play was at a show in NYC where everyone was really reaching. Steve was going into true improvisational territory, and while he made plenty of "mistakes", he truly was inspired. The audience vibe was more tense and excited than any Dregs show I have ever seen before or since. Just an all out fantastic show! What's so amazing about woodshedding a tune till you make no error?
