Ah, brings back memories of rebuilding the amp and preamp and Tormat receiver and autospeed in my Seeburg... upwards of 100 caps and resistors! It seemed to take forever and I was so glad when it was done - AND WORKED RIGHT. Glen did a bang-up job here! He is the man! Everything including the cartridge sounds great Rich... I bet you're just floating on a cloud!!
Oh this is so great!!!! I have to get ready for work. Bummer. I will watch the rest of this later this evening!!! How cool the two of you getting together AND sharing your vast knowledge and skills with us!!! I want to learn how to do this after the prices I've paid to get my players going. Thanks Desoto!!!!
Excellent video Glen, It's very important that we teach as many people as possible to rebuild these historical little phonographs & keep them in existance as long as we can!
Thanks for the acknowledgement of my DVD restoration kits & keep up the good work!
DeSoto, You and Glen did an excellant job on this video. You on the camara and Glen doing the resto was a winning combo! I'm no longer afraid to tackle a job like this and I have the perfect candidate for my first attempt. Thanks for doing this video, You've unwrapped the mystery!
@chompo7 I'll be straight up honest with you - I've NEVER had any formal training or one on one to do my restorations. I did, however, do lots of reading & bought Kieronspal's DVD set to be sure I was doing things correctly & could maybe pick up some tips. There's no one "right" way to do anything but there ARE some things you DO need to know and you can gain that knowlege by reading or grabbing hold of those DVD videos sold on e-Bay. As in life, you'll make mistakes-it's how you learn!
For those that would like a VERY Nice & complete course restoring their RCA 45EY2, I would HIGHLY recommend buying the 4 DVD set available from "kieronspal" on e-Bay. It's about $50 & takes you through breakdown, amp restoration, tonearm restoration & rebuild. Along with the DVD's comes a sheet telling you about ALL the supplies you need AND where to get them. Worth every penny if you have a sincere interest in the RCA 45 RPM RP-190 players!!
@umajunkcollector Selinium rectifiers seldom go bad & I suggest leaving well enough alone for the novice. While tubes can definitely go bad, most often the shelf life of a tube is very good. If after replacing the caps & cartridge the sound is still not good, distorted or low, the next logical step would be to replace the tubes one by one to see if things improve. REMEMBER, THIS VIDEO WAS FOR THE FIRST TIME NOVICE REBUILDER-ONE MUST START WITH SIMPLE WORDS A LAYMAN UNDERSTANDS!
Fabulous!I love this stuff!Nice video and informative!
