  • J'adore The Grid too!!!! Dave Ball is the brains behind the tunes, though of course I love Marc Almond too! He was a very yummy dude... especially here...

  • Some people only seem worried about his sex orientation. Depressing.

He's got a fantastic, unique voice and wrote great songs for Soft Cell and later for Marc and the Mambas. I agree he's a real star So underrated, unfortunately

  • What a beautiful song...

Marc is such an incredible, eclectic talent... a real star indeed.

  • Marc Almond is a true Star.

  • Great video - such a simple concept. Compare it with the terribly overblown clip they made for Tainted Love.

  • uwielbiam to

  • I am just thinking i used to listen to this as a teenager and now I am sitting here in my mid forties wondering where the last 30+ plus years have gone scary! Awesome song and voice.

  • this is a song that tears the heart apart. just so beautiful!

  • So gorgeous.....looking at old photos and listening to this brings tears to my eyes.

  • Really, Marc Almond is golden, it's a shame he hasn't become more of a star than he is...his voice and style are timeless...

  • great song from a long and distant past!! yes and now my youth has gone!!! haha

  • I havent heard this for 16 years n its still great!!

  • Probablement l'un de leur meilleur titre avec "Fustration" !!!!! que de souvenirs en tout les cas !!

  • For a beautiful live version of the song, watch MARC ALMOND PIANO MEDLEY 1992 PART 2 here at youtube. Starts at 2:57.

  • welcom to Israel...

  • LOVE EVERYTHING BY HIM ..HE HAS THE MIDAS TOUCH ,, AND VOICE

  • Non stop erotic cabaret was a brilliant album just loved it!

  • It's so cute when he rolls his eyes @ 2:18 !

  • little known marc almond fact:

sometimes puts on a wig and stands in for eastenders shirley

  • just brilliant...

  • Lástima que el sonido de este video esté defectuoso, pero aún así, es una bella sorpresa haberlo encontrado; ya me lo bajé en el music frost y disfruto ahora del timbre vocal del talentoso e inefable, Marc Almond.

  • haunting electronic undertones, the album is seminal work

  • Haunting...truly haunting...

  • miss this kind of music too.

  • i've just watched about 15 soft cell videos on videos and cannot believe the amount of bullshit about marc's sexuality. who the hell cares for god's sake?! he is a great vocalist, the songs sound great and the lyrics are great, they're a unique band packed with talent that has held for 30 years strong.

  • I miss Soft Cell...

  • @TQ95 I agree with you; but I think that only who doesn't understand a f**k would underestimate Marc & soft cell.....their songs go straight into your heart!!!!!

  • @currypot1965 why "gay"? I'm as straight as you are,but who cares? I've got a wife and a daughter, but I love Soft Cell,The smiths, and probably many other bands with a gay front man....but I don't mind,I love their music, their sexual life is their own business....so....don't mind about that!

  • @MrGothic78 I know,i'm a fan to,guess i shouldn't comment when under the influence!! So,apologies to all Soft Cell fans.

  • @currypot1965 That's ok!!!! if you're a fan too.....who cares about his sexuality? I must confess I've always listened to S.C. and when I knew that marc wasn't "straight"..well...I could not believe that!!! that's 'cos I like his style, his way of moving...and I asked myself:" am I gay too???!!!" but I'm not,and I still love them!! SO...NO PROBLEM,FRIEND!!!! THAT'S GOOD MUSIC.....and it's all that matters!

  • @MrGothic78 I couldn't give a monkeys fig what a person is,i just must stop doing inane comments when a bit tipsy!!!!!

  • @currypot1965 don't mind about that!!!! we all often do inane comments....we're only human beings so...no problem, friend!!! if you read other comments about other songs/ bands you will find SO MANY FOOLISH people writing lots of bullshit...and their problem is serious!!!!! they' re really BRAINLESS!!!!!! greetings from italy -vincent-

  • @MrGothic78 Liking a gay artist's work would never be a sign you are gay, anymore than liking a straight artist's work means you're straight.

  • @MrGothic78 thumbs up

  • @gabsylv thanxxx friend!!!

  • @currypot1965 - TWAT

  • @muggles63 Oh.

  • Great song...great lyrics...I love Soft Cell

  • makes me shiver...

  • The singers of Soft Cell, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, just to name the ones I like enough to remember, all could not hit the right note on purpose if their lives depended on it.

I can see them now, in my mind's eye, protesting: "But I hit the note one time, in 2007, it's even on tape, listen!" But that would be mostly accidental

It is part of the sound, go along with it & you will like the music better. & don't feel bad if you never noticed, either; you already appreciate the music

  • Good album, mates in work always take the piss but I always defend it, work of art.

  • Great song! Back in the day I used to play it when hung over and regretting the night before... How old was Marc when he recorded this? Certainly perceptive beyond his years. I think this song is more about the premature ageing and jaded attitude to life that comes with living too fast. We have all known people like this or felt like it ourselves. This song and Bedsitter really helped me question what life is all about and eventually I found something better to do with my time. Thanks Marc!

  • The years have been kind to Marc

  • Saw the last ever Soft Cell gig, 10th Jan 1984 Hammersmith Palais. Best night of my life. Seen Soft Cell (reunion)/ Marc Almond 30 - 40 times since. Love this song. Soft Cell without a doubt the biggest influence on my life.

  • I adore Marc Almond. Every time I watch his videos, it just makes me wanna wear my eye-liner like his raccoon eyes. i love it!!

  • esta cancion tiene un sonido hipnotico

    me encanta!

  • @Daomrojo hipnotico eso es una trance algo como ir parando el tiempo

  • Marc Almond is so amazing...

  • OH MY GOD *dies* my all time fave song. and there's a vid! thank you!!!!

  • @charmedjoh - This will be my new favorite song for the next couple weeks or so. I can't find anything else anywhere that could possibly relate to how I'm feeling now as well as this video.

  • Haunting

  • this means everything to me,met someone special this easter sat and listen to

  • youth.... you left me all too soon!!!!

but i will allwayes have you in my memmories.

  • Deep and serious relics and simple synthe sound can go so beautiful when its by Soft Cell. This is their true value!

  • Youth has gone...

  • Thanks for posting all these Marc/Soft Cell vids!!!

  • sometimes things go absofuckingly wrong.

  • it's not a depressive song. it's sentimental and beautiful

  • I think were sure, you just don't how to party!!

    steve g

  • Who cares about the drums ? This is one of the most beautiful songs ever ! At least for me it is :-))

  • @Mascardinho Damn good album too.

  • A true heart-breaker of a tune.

  • Are you sure Mr??

    Drunk by chance???

  • How can one person be so, so wrong?

  • Are you talking about someone from yout family?

  • Nah, I'm talking to the geezer with all the thumbs down.

  • Oh dear...

  • The early 80s SEX AND DRUGS AND SOFT CELL great time to be alive

  • Marc and his sister in the cakground super 8 film

  • still amazing

  • MUKIN FAGIC NEVER CHANGE

  • A guy I grew up with in Congleton, " a local builders son" bummed him at art school.

  • The intro is fucking powerful

  • AMAZING music!

  • Comment removed

  • this is good i remember mark living in bedsit land in leeds , i was only young n i asked him if he,d made his first million yet n he told me to fuck off honest thats true . but i dont hold it against him ....

  • That's pretty fucked up.

  • Yeah he was quite rude, i saw him in a cafe in london and he had a go at the staff in there!!

  • always cuts me deep...

  • this is my favorite soft cell song.

  • anyone else rember the leicester cathedral gigs? my spanish friend gala started skinning up - i said no - she said in spain we smoke everywhere! Torch is still my fave. love to all the willing sinners xxx

  • thats funny..... here in ireland to skin up means to put on a comdom.........

  • he's got beautiful eyes xxx

  • amazing song!!! very 80's:-)

  • I've yet to even view the video - its the song and lyrics which has prompted me to action here.

  • "Youth" is a song that gives hope and also is a confession from the songwriters that there is a spark of hope for the future of humanity. At the same time, the songwriters [Marc Almond, David Ball] immediately counter their witness with the subconciously seamless follow up song "Sex Dwarf".

Its only after both of these songs have played out fully does the above average listener [no offense] realize that something universally profound has just occurred in the annals of an audio recording.

  • All the tunes from the CD: "Soft Cell; Non-stop Erotic Cabaret" are just awesome. As many have said, Waaaaayy under-rated.

If you think Marc Almond is a fantastic singer-songwriter, then you have to get his solo CD- "The Stars We Are" from 1998. It absolutely cranks!!! It took me forever to find it, but I did. Go listen!!!

  • i love this song

  • Good song, but I think the video gets it fundamentally wrong (despite the beautiful cinematography and Marc's expressive face). The lyrics are about the loss of youth and physical beauty, not childhood and innocence. The song is being addressed to a lover fretting about the loss of his/her sexual attractiveness. The singer is mature and confident enough to say that there are worse things to lose and that youth (shallow but beautiful) will always sleep inside the self, impervious to change.

  • This song and 'insecure me' were both vastly underrated in their day.

    Classics in my mind

  • great song!!!!!!!!!

  • It's hard I know to believe

    That I was somebody's son

    The memories

    Of what you once were

    The memories of what

    We both were...........

  • what a wonderful sad song

  • Youth :(

  • good stuff :)

  • No shit Sherlock. Like we haven't that since the 80s.

  • These were my feelings on my birthday but this song gets better everytime

  • Touching..

  • great song...proper music...very haunting...

  • A beautifully sad song.

  • Youth is fleeting.

Take it from me, I know!! 18 to 30 - over in a blink of an eye.

And this song recognises the fact.

    Love this track!

  • if hes gay im gona be mad. cuse hes f*** HOTT! DATS HOT WITH 2 T'S HOTT!

  • Man, what a powerful tune. When I get round to playing this album I always skip staight to this and then let it run into the next. Perfect example of how less is more.

  • This song haunted me when I was a youth....I would imagin I was old and my youth had gone. Now youth has gone, but the song still has the same effect on me.............For me the best song of all time.

  • You are damn right...

  • what a great comment markg, I completely relate to what you are saying...

  • @markg119 agree ;)

  • @markg119 I felt the exactly same way... nostalgic at twenty... can remember dancing to it and wondering what it would be like for it to be reality... well... now I know... haunting is the word...

  • @markg119 Aren`t you just right.

  • Love this song and it's my favorite vid of all time.

For it's time--quite amazing effects and style.

  • What a pretty man...waht an amazing voice!

  • o i'm sorry

  • omg marc is so sexy

  • yes he is. (showin support)

  • Needs more cowbell!

  • He's actually very pretty - in a hung-over, elfin sort of way.

:) I love the Marc Almond of old.

  • he does look like an elf XD

  • Para Natu, con cariño

"Sleep in a deep deep sleep

    Beauty is skin deep"

  • Great song, Thanks Marc, and thanks por posting.

  • If an older man had written this it would be one thing, but he wrote this when he was actually quite young. Genius. They don't make 'em like Marc Almond anymore.

  • this guy is guy but what a great voice he has

  • You know, I'm kind of glad pop isn't like this anymore. It just makes me appreciate songs like this all the more - they seem like a rarity, a find, a treasure, and a fading mark upon the world. So I cling to stuff like this. I love out-of-date pop. I love Soft Cell.

  • youth has gone, where did the years go? will we ever know?

  • You sleep in a deep deep sleep...I think I'm the only Latina that listens to Marc Almond. I was raised listening to these songs thanks to my older brothers....Thank God...

  • this sounds like a leftover from bowie's low

    or heroes.one of my favourits back in the 80's,soft cell,n.hagen,the clash,the specials,good old times...hahaha

  • it's not in the same class as low or heroes, but's it's still good, coiotte72...i remember the album coming out when i was still at school...a very great achievement, hugely influencial on virtually all alternative music since...
