Because for melanie, her first audition was the best first impression she could ever give and it's really what won over so many people as well as her strong solos. Same with lauren froderman, her at last solo was killer and it won people over from the start. And of course Jeanine Mason had stellar solos as well. It really plays a huge role on who wins.
The best solo ever danced on this show and frankly any show. It was perfect, above and beyond. From that look that she gave to the split jump in mid air, she is just something else
I usually don't care for solos, but this has to be the BEST solo I have ever seen on this show, that I've ever seen period. She definitely deserved to win, I hope I see more from her soon.

The only other solo routine I've ever seen on the show that was as amazing was Brandon's solo to O Fortuna. (I missed a few of the first seasons, so pardon me to anyone who thinks there was something fantastic that I missed from back then!)
I think this is the one and only solo that i wished didn't end so fast. I know she mostly improvised all of it, since she just thought about it before she walked on the stage, but it was the best! Ah, so happy she won!
@LightOfTheSunrise Believe it or not a lot of dancers do that. They have a basic idea and just go with the music. Always listen to your music for as long as possible right before going on stage and your musicality will def. be more on point than if you hadn't :) She's stlll a great contemporary artist, but it's nothing extremely unheard of or special.
I can't believe she decided what she was going to do for this solo a few minutes before she went on stage! (That's what Cat Deely said when she was done!)
Wow! She really knows how to pull out all the stops at a crucial time. I have loved Melanie since her audition solo but I felt all her solos up till now never lived up to her audition one. This was amazing! It shows she's just as athletic and strong as Sasha while maintaining her soft, contemporary lines. Loved the combo starting at 0:50!
