This however speaks volumes musically, it's not flashy at all, its one guy playing bass and melody, just like a pianist...which then means Pianists must also be flashy and wankerish. :-/

it's about swing.. feel.. space... the changes... truly original statements... trust me, tapping triads and hitting random notes in a scale is different from exerting tasteful tensions yet still hitting every chord on the spot...

the guy here's great.. just not a fan anymore of 2-handed tapped standard arpeggios (doesnt rlly put any tension on the chord), and simple funk octave slaps. it sounds fine; im just not a fan of it so i stated my opinion.. just to be harassed.. lol

it's still the same principle behind the hate for metal guitarists; one too many notes that do not make a statement. i can't feel the musical correlation here for myself, but that shouldn't undermine the enjoyment it gives to others. however, to dismiss a statement as one of a "jazz snob"s is to make one's performance impervious to criticism =P

the flashiness translates to redundancy to me, but if this is truly amazing to other people, then that gives this cover value and meaning

I play guitar too and I don't think that the bass sucks at all, actually I think it's an awesome instrument just as much as the guitar is. The point is that most of the BASS PLAYERS sucks, if there'd more good bassists or virtuous bassists (like this guy) the bass would be much more respected instrument.

Open minded? I think you've misunderstood me. What I was implying was that a lot of peoplego by the -ironic- "3000 BPM, Exaggerated Tapping, Overuse of technique, excess of anything" narrow-minded way of thinking.

Maybe in this video, the player does not overdo it as much as others, but I believe he still does. I'm not against having a wealth of technique in a song, but some people just cram things just because it's complex, and although It doesn't sound very good, people will praise him/her.
