People who keep hating on this version need to remember that it isn't replacing the original.
Both are good, just in different ways. I like this version, but it's too melancholy to suite Chrono Trigger. Chrono Trigger had a really good ending, not a depressing one.
I don't have anything against Kee, this is a great job. BUT, having played Chrono Trigger, and listened to this song IN the game, I can say it isn't meant to be this sad! Although this arrangement is good, I think Kee totally changed the purpose of this track.
@DBCOOPER888 Agree completely. The rubato slurs the enjoyment. There was another piano version that I heard that was superior in terms of pace and it's in the original key. They changed the key to a major key and it messes up the beauty of the original
What can i say... Every time i listen to this, i feel my whole body getting a little warmer... Thank you for this. It's a beautiful song, and the lyrics just fits perfectly.
I'm afraid that the switching between English and Japanese always bothered me. I would also echo the requests for the vocal free version of this. I hate to sound like a hater, but it's just my opinion.
Does anyone want to know why Chrono Trigger is such an amazing game? Because some of the people that worked at Square were retiring, and they knew this would be the last game they made. They tried to make it as beautiful and epic as possible, and they succeeded. There are probably other reasons too, but I thought I'd just share a little.
Hey Everybody! I have just released my new electronic album “Sub-Zero” which is heavily inspired by game soundtracks and OC Remixes. If you're interested you can listen to the full album on my youtube channel, as well as download the album for free!
The first time I heard this song, I loved it... until the singing started. But I still gave it a chance. But given how much I dislike both the singer and the decision to switch back and forth between singing in English and Japanese, I quickly felt like they had butchered one of my favorite pieces of music of all time. Love the piano in it, but I really dislike that singer.

@Chris8282 I agree I love this song just the way it is. The instrumental would have been fine, but the lyrics!? At first the lyrics sounded alright with the song I was kinda of warming up to it, but then the Japanses singing came out. Come on if your going to add lyrics, do it one language or they wanted to they could have went one English and the other Japanese. Well thats my opinion about it.

Wow. Until now I would have assumed turning the melody into lyrics would have been a disaster. I'm proven wrong. The lyrics are surprisingly well done and not at all corny.
There is only ONE thing missing from this song, and that's the presence of the ticking of the clock near the end. I always found that I would have to stop whatever I was doing and close my eyes, envisioning the passing of the game in my memories whenever this happened.
mm those lyrics are really sad...i saw in an interview in enix website for chrono trigger.

I really like this song on the SNES, and this is all the better. It still has that sad feel to the song that the SNES version did. It's a sort of bittersweet melody, because in the end you save the world, but you also must let go of your friends throughout time. Love this song.
Chrono Trigger... i hate remembering but at the same time love remembering this great game and based on my own thoughts the greatest ive played and i have played many games over the years, brings tears
When i listen to this, i remember about the last days chrono's party spent together, when they defeated lavos together, working together. But they had to say goodbye, everyone went back to their lives like nothing has happened, but deep inside they knew they had saved the whole world from destruction and when they look back... they'll remember those good times having adventures through space and time. Their lives had changed for good, thank you square for making such a beautiful game.
I agree with this being one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard and that Trigger was absolutely one of the best games ever. This game defeats reality with it's unprecedented level of perfection. Cross was a great game.. an EXCELLENT game in fact, but they were right when they said they could not top Trigger. The only thing that could come as close to Trigger is a good chunk of Cross musical tracks. Trigger is the only game ever made that EVERY SINGLE SOUND BYTE is enjoyable. EVERY song in the game even the fun songs that don't convey the heavy emotion that the events of the game carry...
This game and everything about it makes me feel the exact same way devout religious people feel about their god. Even if you tried to show me a perfectly good reason why this game is not the best game ever made and backed it up with solid logic... I would still deny you the justice of being right.
@dyzziedyazn I totally understand how you feel. I played hundreds of games and I enjoyed a lot of them but I dont know why I like this game so much.
