I think we each have things about which we are ignorant, at different times of our lives. Ignorance itself is nothing about which to be ashamed. It simply means without knowledge or information. If we are in the dark (so to speak) we can light a candle. However, if we are ignorant, and choose to remain so, that is different. Reminds me of the dwarves in C.S. Lewis' The Last Battle. Be at peace with where you are now, knowing you can choose to not remain there.
It looked like the fan he held was a glass coca-cola bottle through peripheral vision. You're not alone if you were like "Oh yeah, this is brilliant...hey is that...Coke? Confucius DID rock MAN!"

A very scheduled society means order too. And with sincere , honesty , and true integrity, we shall never have any fear too, therefore, you always can smile . :) While only fake empty belief without deeds will not avoid any problems. :)
The more smarter the people and society, the more accurate is this fate, it also likes the scheduled bus, plane, and train, people just have to follow its time based on their own deeds. :) Nobody to blame or find any excuse too and God is very fair. :)
Death to my understanding is a sweet sleep only and everyday, we die once at each night. :) And all our fates are pre-scheduled as a perfect planned dream, if we have kids or not, how many, when to get married , or etc etc, all out of our control, just follows it and very happy with each step as long as we all have clean and all consciousness heart and souls. :)
I'm looking for wise people. And I sure think he was. But when I read "Ignorance is the night of the mind, but a night without moon and star", I wonder how would feel the "ignorant" to hear that. Wouldn't that hurt him?
Is it wise to feel proud about "not being an ignorant" ?
@fl260 I do see your point, however, I do not think it is "proud", as you say, to despise ignorance and encourage others to pursue virtue and knowledge! He was not trying to "hurt" anybody with his teachings, just confront people at the time with the fact of their own ignorance, and say "here, look, ignorance can be cured, but you have to work hard at it". :)
@Chemgirl99 I think you're right, but only because you're talking about Confucius. Because the same words used without wisdom could become hurtful.
But I was talking on a personal level also : I never said to anyone he was an ignorant only because I don't know in what proportion I am myself ignorant.
Like I use to say : When you are wrong, you can't be more wrong. So when you are not wrong, you can be more wrong.
Thanks for your respectful reply; I appreciate! :)
@fl260 :) I think you're totally right. Confucius definitely had a lot of wisdom to impart, but people who are themselves not wise should not go around calling others ignorant, of course. ;) Best of luck to you in your search for wisdom
@Chemgirl99 Would you mind if I ask one or two question? It's rare that I get to talk with people who share this interest. And this is my first question : do you have a lot of friends thinking like you? (Am I alone in this situation?!). Also, do you know any website or forum where we can discuss those kind of things?
So frustrating sometimes : I write quotes, think things deeply, but can't communicate it with anybody! Well, other than in Youtube comments.. ;)
@fl260 Online forums can get very crazy and I do not like them very much. You have to be careful on online forums because a lot of people who post don't know a thing about philosophy and they turn philosophical discussion into an argument and an "ego thing". Find books. I could also send you some excellent Youtube videos :)
@fl260 Oh and no I do not have a lot of friends who think deeply about things, about existence, about truth, about death, etc. I think deeply on my own. In these times we live in, we are encouraged NOT to think or, at least, not to think about what is important. Only trivial things, like the size of our thighs or butt, lol! :) Be glad that you're one of the few who still has a mind of your own, lol. :)
@Chemgirl99 Apparently, we come to the same conclusions about forums : not the best place to honestly discuss. We always end up talking about the talk rather than the subject.
I read a lot, from Shunryu Suzuki to Dino Buzatti (which I highly recommend), but like Hugo was saying "A book is a cold and sure friend"; but at the end, it stays cold. Nah, I guess just to have a chat once in a while with people like you reminds me I'm not alone, so whatever the difficulties, I should stay focus...
@Chemgirl99 So yeah, I would definitely appreciate if you share a couple videos, or even if you have books suggestion, i'd take it. But I think it would be better if you send it in a personal message : we're starting to pollute this page a little! ;)
Oh and, thanks for your kindness and generosity! Maybe it's nothing for you, but again, it's quite rare on youtube.
@fl260 ignorant is the person who stops learning...how ever well accomplished or prosperous he may get..................even a beggar can turn out to be wise and many beggars have.! ...all the worlds greatest philosophers were beggars in worldly sense
@fl260 Hmm, I think what he meant with "ignorant" was those who choose to not know, to remain without enlightenment and improvement. I don't think he was being proud, I think he was giving some sort of advice. Idk, that's what I got from it :)
@fl260 Perhaps this saying seems unwise or arrogant because we are in such a different time than Confucius. Today our watchword is democracy, and some people think that a corollary of our respect for it is the idea that every person's opinion is just as good as another's -- ON ANY SUBJECT. But in practice knowledge is precious, and we value it so. We do not ask just anyone advise us on our health or investments. We ask experts. So in practice ignorance is known to be a bad thing.
@fl260 children are hurt by being spanked hard by a parent and this is merely to beat the stupidity out of them a lecture wises them up. fools and children can learn by no other way. at least children can learn
@atfatw Hmmm. You do an affirmation. I raise a question. Better to stay on the safe side : after all, I don't know you, and any affirmation would be hazardous.
@fl260 please expand your intellect be like lotus that is on the surface of the water rather than on the bottom read all of Confucious, Buddha, and Aristotle.
@atfatw Look, I don't know you, and that is why I won't say something like "don't be at the bottom".
I can think for myself, don't worry. I have traveled across Canada on my bike and had all the time in the world to think and write it down in quotes. Not only have I read Buddha and Aristotle, but also Kant, Kunh, Xuan Thuan, Monod...
Again, I don't know who you are. But anyway : when you are wrong, you can't be more wrong, so when you are not wrong, you can be more wrong. So I don't care.
I don't need "good advises" such as "are you a silly dillentante".
I don't try to fix other people, because I don't know them. It is their job. You must be very wise to bash on people like this. You should be very filled inside.
Try to spot only one insult I have shoot you. It's simply not there.
If you knew me in life, you would probably understand that it's not necessary to attack my kind of people. It is not "relevant", as I am a good person making good things.
@fl260 Thank you. you say you are a good person? ok well you sure fooled me
I have always loved wisdom and wanted to be a sage. which requires the humble ability to look and see totally without the mind being clouded over with pre conceived notions or a lot of nonsense interferring. CIAO
@fl260 Indeed an ignorant man is unaware of his ignorance. Seek truth and accept your own ignorance. I often fear the fine line between pride and arrogance
@mattmerrick nice comment. even a smart guy is unware of his ignorance with common sense. a blind is ignorance of what cannot see but wisely sense of the unseen.
Reconciliation at its purest, is in my opinion, very much like the confusius quote about vengeance. With two major differences, the length of the road traveled, and the number of graves you'll find along the way. J.L.E
It's sad to see such a wonderful video, full of wisdom and spirituality getting 4000 views, while Justin Bieber get 400 million views. This just confirms that the world is heading the wrong way.
Confucius's quotes "I see" and "feed a man a fish" are probably the most powerful quotes of human history. I used to see them on posters at school, but what I hate is that Confucius is never credited on those posters.
Confucius has regained much of his former strength. He cannot yet take physical form but his spirit has lost none of its potency. Concealed within his fortress China, the Lord of vain Bibble Babble sees all. His gaze pierces cloud, shadow, earth, and flesh. You know of what I speak, a great Eye, lidless, wreathed in flame. He is gathering all evil to him. Very soon he will have summoned an army great enough to launch an assault upon Middle Earth.
I showed this clip to my Year 8 students today and they were mesmerised. It was funny to see a rowdy group of Year 8's go quiet as the watched and read and listened to the peaceful music. Loved it.
@dragonowner23 If you were in the dark, and closed your eyes because you thought there was nothing to see, and by listening to me discovered that there were stars and a moon to be seen, and so you looked for them, and by opening your eyes found them... by what authority would you be insulted by my initial comment?

@fl260 I don't think he's passing judgement on the 'ignorant', he is just equating a suitable metaphor
ie. there is nothing beautiful (moon and star) about being ignorant.
Thats the way I understand it. It has nothing to do with hurting or offending anyone. I could be wrong... it is Confucius we are talking about here.
