  • Snapshot of a soul...again.

  • I pray for faith Lord, I pray for Love, I pray for the Lost, I pray for forgiveness, I pray for courage, I pray fir strength.

I pray for you and the Angels to watch over and protect Bruce and his wonderful heart

  • BRUCE...YOU ARE THE BEST!!! NIKOS FROM GREECE!!

  • 2 fingers flopped into his drink. How do these people know how to make Videos that mess with your head like that like its de ja vue?

  • I Simply Love Bruce. I Grew Up With His Music in the 80s. Best Time of my Life. Now in 2012 He and I are still around. So Grateful for that. Love You Loads Bruce !

  • Wow this holds true to me and I'm sure many.

    Awesome song Bruce

  • this is 1 of bruce's best tunes for sure!! with me it used to be 1 step up and 10 steps back, my life was way out of control, until i met a very special person that changed my entire view of life and gave it more meaning! he has been with me since i was born and he will see me again in the great hereafter, i want to say my pappy but he is 2nd the man i am talking about is JESUS CHRIST, thank you lord for saving my soul and giving me music to enjoy, PEACE

  • @1860george ....heres the deal on why todays music just dont cut it.....MY generation, 60s and 70s, wrote almost all of the great rock n roll songs, and just didnt leave the 80s and beyond anything to write......it had done been done....

  • Thank you dad, for introducing me to Bruce

  • great song kenny chesney dose a good cover.

  • this song makes you realize life is great and hope everybody in this world has a good day everyday life as we know it is pure. work hard and be blessed for everything you have gone through......

  • simply romantic

  • im 13 i love Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, The beatles,Paul Simon, David Bowie, Pink floyd and other great rock bands, how come today we have auto tuned retro music everywhere...where is the rock and blues?

  • "One step up and two steps back" that's me.

  • @1860george I couldn't agree with you more. I was born in '68, and the music of the 80's was far superior than anything in the last 20 years. Time were simple, music was interesting and thoughtful (see this song), TV was created in a way to take your mind off your problems and whish you away somewhere else. This reality shit they have on TV now makes me want to vomit.

  • @1860george well said!

  • eu amo bruce

  • Bruce is insanely cute in this video :)

  • @1860george I'm 23 and I agree with you to an extent, but for those that search for it, we find some quality. Admittedly, mostly coming from the 80s and 90s! I've got tickets to see the Boss for the first time in Sunderland, UK this June. YES!

  • I was never a big Bruce Springsteen fan, until I heard this song what could be called way back when nowadays (don't worry a lot has changed since then). It's always been my favorite from him, it's just so.......so......, I don't know how to say it, painfully beautiful? I love it.

  • I"m just mere woman, which drives the desire to get what ever shall have not......BRUCE shollhave a man.I like you Bruce

  • I wrote a Czech text...Bruce-Czech with my words I you must have been satisfied

  • JUst under the leaves of your actions, tell me where your shadows disappeared.....my lyrics czeck

  • O meu rokeiro preferido

  • Ok. I officially love this guy. Beautiful song Bruce. Honest and heartfelt.

  • Did this song place high on the charts. Very underrated track.

  • @jayberwanger This song only got as high as number 9 on billboard pop hits, but did hit number 1 on the adult contemporary charts. This song truly serves as a gauge to judge ones' existence. "when I look at myself I don't see, the man I wanted to be. Somewhere along the line I slipped off track." If that doesnt describe the feelings many guys get at one point in their life, I don't know what does.

  • I just wanna slow dance to this song....even though it's a breakup song lol.

  • ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!! THE MUSIC IS MOVING....."THE BOSS"

  • Perfect <3 He's The Boss :)

  • Thanks for these thoughts. The irony of life is amazing - today I received your comments and it was the day I said a heartbreaking last goodbye to the love of my life. Even harder to take was the letter of acceptance for permanent residency waiting in my mailbox. We had moved to Canada to start a life and this letter is now nothing more than a reminder that all those dreams have died.

  • suo teu fã cara que Deus te abençoe grandemente valeu fique na paz

  • help my shoes R wearing out

  • Just a great song man ! I think that Gomer Pyle would even cry !! Jersey Shore, Asbury Park, Freehold ! From there !

  • The Boss.....

  • When I look at myself I don't see the man I wanted to be

Somewhere along the line I slipped off track

  • yes just like life......comes with many ups and downs !! i think i have most of us beat !! just got divorced after 30 yrs .....married 24 and 2gether since the 10 th grade.......but if we stayed 2gether we would of killed each other...no matter how we tried..doesn't make it any easy on anyone !!

  • This is the story of me and my ex husband....15 years later, I still think of him every once and again and wonder where we would be today if we both really tried instead of just giving in. Divorce is sometimes a knee-jerk reaction to a rough patch...it's not the answer!!

  • Very powerful video. Really tells a story that's I'm sure thousands can relate to!

  • STORY OF MY LIFE

  • sexyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!

  • Sometimes life seems to have no reason... I have been through a tough time in the last year and a half.. Divorce is so ugly, however I would never take back the times we had... I hope you at least had love for me at one point. Miss You!

  • Bruce puts his life into his music and makes a song like this out of it, i feel he wrote it for me, but i wasnt born till a year after this song was released. This, to me, is a mark of a songwriting genius. Can write songs that transcend years, counties, religions, and still relate to an individual. A true, wonderful talent.

  • Yes this brings back memories. x

  • This Album came out when I was going through a divorce...Springsteen was also...it really consoled me.

  • @simonhead100 After all these years I still think Tunnel of Love has got to be one of the best albums ever written about relationships.

  • I know it's arguable. But I always thought this was his best song.

  • somewhere along the line I sniffed dog's crap.

  • Dylan, Lennon, McCartney Simon, Wilson.....please step aside. As far as I am concerned The Mozart of rock Mr Bruce Springsteen is the greatest songwriter there has ever been..

  • @johnnyM809 I totally agree, I have listened to him since the 70's and he's changed and grown as we all do.:-)

  • @johnnyM809 .....glad I didnt say that....

  • @johnnyM809 Bruce is great bu the greatest man to grace rock and roll and write the best songs of his generation isnt dylan McCartney Wilson Simon or Perry its the greatest showman who ever lived he wrote the corner stone of rock music hs name was FREDDIE MERCURY!!!

  • @maz14U2NV man i cant say if bruce is better than dylan or lennon like the fact that we have a list where people say whose better and whose worse is a load of shit man whats great for me can be shit for others but thats just me

  • @johnnyM809 ....dylan?....MAN CANT BE OLDER THAN HIS FATHER.....

  • This is awesome...makes me cry... He was so handsome here...beautiful!!!!

  • @zmmred I AGREE....

  • @pittnor

Yep! He definitely has that Andy Garcia vibe here. Used to date a guy in the 80s who looked just like a cross between Springsteen and Andy Garcia and wondered what he looks like now.

  • one of those songs you dont get till your older.

  • amo o bruce......especialmente esta musica.....maravilhosoooooo

  • woke up this morning the house was cold, checked the furnace she wasnt burnin...went out and hopped in my old ford, hit the engine buddy she aint turnin.......nobody speaks of life like this man.......his songs hit close to home....VERY CLOSE.....Rest in Peace Clarence....Long Live THE BOSS...

  • Another fantastic song from a classic american rocker!!

  • Funny how Jay Gyles wrote this. Perfection man...

  • How true

  • PERFECT!!!!!!!!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!! I LIKE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN!!!!

  • paul ya lil thick

  • this sounds like me and Nancy, I stiil cry for her

  • so.... perfect

  • This song tells the story of my life, and how I felt about Laura. You can see the one who broke my heart. She left me for another, and in the end he left her for another and pregnant.

That's Karma, and you can see us in the videos I have posted it's a 4pt series Love of my Life Laura which is 3 of 4, and I just added a new one today.

It's called, Someone like You (I Love you Laura.

  • Happy 62nd! Sept. 23rd

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY JERSEY BOY <3

  • ..............Last night I dreamed I held you in my arms

    The music was never-ending

We danced as the evening sky faded to black

One step up and two steps back..........

  • this song,... is amazing!

    Strongly powerful :)

  • greatness

  • THIS WORLD WILL NEVER BE THE SAME WITHOUT YOU BRUCE & BAND , BUT YOUR GLORY WILL ALWAYS SHINE .

  • wow

  • Great singer, Bruce is one in a million...

  • Brilliant song, love it now just as much now as the first time i heard it many years ago.Timeless.

  • Linda Musica! O Back vocal no final da canção é simplesmente maravilhoso e espiritual!

  • Dang near sexiest marriage/relationship song ever. I am guilty as charged. I am also redeemed. Hurts. Cryin feels real good. Move on, and try and do better next time around.......Love u Bruce, always and forever.

  • I haven't heard this in years, i forgot how amazing this song was.

  • ............FUCK YOU VEVO... YOU GOD DAMN FUCKING BASTARDS!!

  • Always loved The Boss but only just discovered this track. I broke up with my fiance, unexpectedly, six weeks ago, and these lyrics burn my heart out. It's our tale, towards the end, however much we tried, we were always taking one step up and two steps back.

  • @horseinformer - Ohhhhhh so sorry....Hates when that happens, but time heals :)

  • @horseinformer The entire album is about stuff like this (Tunnel of Love, 1987).

Try "Brilliant Disguise" and "Two Faces."

The song that got to my late, lonely mother-in-law was, "When You're Alone."

I find those songs soothing. However bad you feel you know you're *not* alone in having those feelings.

That's Bruce's genius. The ability to speak to, and for, all of us. Universal themes.

  • @CPSJSMSUUMUGA First, great userid. Second, "universal themes" -- how true. Last -- it's fascinating, in many, perhaps in most people these universal themes stay internal and local. In him, they externalize into songs like this. The closest we can come on this planet to true magic (I think). What a treat, to be his contemporary, to have this voice that speaks for you, and that is both not yours and is.

  • @horseinformer Never underestimate love, some of us can't run from it, and some of us who try to get rid of the damn thing, it keeps coming BACK.Much love and Happy holidays

  • @horseinformer sorry to hear about it..some of the best songs really aren't the tearjerkers, but the contemplative ones like this..hope you'll have a better2012!!

  • The Boss hit #13 in Billboard, 4-23-88. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great week!

  • Great song....

  • light and cool ...

  • wow- i will always love this song....he is an amazing songwriter...

  • This is one of the most amazing songs ever written, GO BRUCE!

  • one of his most underrated songs, great

  • Simple. Honest. Authentic. Haunting.

  • young people in love, dont just listen to this, feel it. its important. you dont want to look back in 20 yrs and feel it. then its too late. its too easy to lose.

  • The drummer is Max Wienberg and he was the drummer for Conan's band for years. The guitar player is Stevie Van Zandt and he played Silvio on the Sopranos.

  • .....I wonder why in the video, Bruce wears his wedding ring all throughout? Does the video convey any hope?........nevertheless Heartland Rock at its best. Unsurpassed, Mr Springsteen and the E Street Band.

  • @sildenafiltartrate if a man is wearing a wedding ring given to him and he izz in a strip club.. there izz no hope..

perhaps low self esteem.. but no love 4 the one that gave him the ring.. just the way it izz. he has the option having a drink ALONE...

  • hands up whos listen to this song because of there girl / boy

  • This is a great self evaluation song ... yet inspiring all the same! For those needing to take stock of themselves, behaviors, and the manner in which you're living allow this song to assist/serve as a helpful guide! I personally adore the melodic harmony - Superb!! Good luck : )

  • Never cared for Bruce much - but this song NAILS it...

  • Man I hear this song and I begin to cry, thinking about how I missed the "red flags" that my wife was going to walk out on me after 20 years.

  • @plc481 I'm sorry. I, myself, missed the "red flags" during 20+ years of loving commitment. This is a hard, heartfelt song and Bruce sums things up with so well. Take care, brother.

  • Man I hear this song and I begin to cry, thinking about how I missed the "red flags" that my wife was going to walk out on me after 20 years.

  • Man I hear this song and I begin to cry, thinking about how I missed the "red flags" that my wife was going to walk out on me after 20 years.

  • Best verse in the whole song "last night I dreamed I held you in my arms... the music was never ending. We danced as the evenin sky faded to black

  • This reminds me very much of a someone I think about often... the man I always seem to be getting hard lessons from. One step up & two steps back , seems to be our song.

  • i love this band vevo

  • hopefully there will be another greatest hits cd. his first was great but there are so many other greats that aren't on it

  • just broke up with my gf. should have just played her this song and walked away.

  • @hazbutler...I used to listen to this song last year when my girl dumped me. She used to love this song like I did and it got me through tough times. You should have played that song. It explains a lot. Bruce is fucking bad ass.

  • this is the only song from bruce i like

  • @alan69671

Try Racing in the street from Darkness on the edge of town.

  • My conclusion. Youtube sold their soul and the aholes that bought it were like let's sell every inch of space on the screen. So now I don't even know how to delete some ad on a video I'm trying to watch. Fuck this shit

  • Children, Lady Gaga, Kesha, and Eddie Veder do not belong in dialog under this song. When you get older you will learn that sometimes it's better just to observe than to speak. Good luck.

  • sweet song of a love perhaps lost, but a soul mate never leaves ur heart.

  • Classic Springsteen - the artist conveys his message of the morass of the soul-numbing routines of life. I'm thinking of some other lines from other artists like, "I can't cut the ties that bind me to horoscopes and fate" or "If I could break down these walls and shout my name at heaven's gate - I'd take these hands and I'd destroy the dark machineries of fate" that kind of make me feel the same way - like you're walking through two feet of sludge as you go through your days.

  • I just watched this 33 times in a row. Is something wrong with me?

  • @TDB592 Not at all :) You just have a really great taste in music! This song is pretty awesome!

  • @TDB592 Not at all :) You just have a really great taste in music! This song is pretty awesome!

  • @TDB592 there must be something wrong with both of us....I've hit replay a dozen times

  • This one's definitely in my top 10 from Bruce. It's the prettiest sad song I've ever heard

  • This song takes me back and then slowly turns the pages,of all the reflections. peace all.

  • Bleak and beautiful. One of Springsteen's most underrated songs.

  • Rip Clarence Clemmons' you always be a "friend of mine". One of the Boss's best in this song, Two Icons who brought us all some great music !

  • @thejohnny990 guy,Ii respect Bruce Springsteen a lot, I grew up, along with my older sister, on his music broadasted via the radio, or spinning in her boombox. I like Gaga today; I appreciate the work she does and her authentically fearless jams, but I'll always love and respect the boss and this music.

  • 2 people fell down the stairs.....

  • RIP to the great saxophonist and leader of the E-Street Band, Clarence Clemons. The "Heavenly Street Band" just acquired a world-class musician for their line-up! Rest in peace...

  • ONE OF HIS MOST PASSIONATE,DEEP ROOTED SONGS EVER. LOVE IT.......

  • i love this song.. & i hate VEVO..

  • When I look at myself I don't see.

the man I wanted to be......

when I am being an ass to my wife I heart that verse, not much else needs to be said.

  • One of the most prolific tunes he's ever recorded. Bless you, Brucey!

  • keep rockin boss from puerto montt chile

  • @player007007007 thanx 4 likin USA music!! greetings from upstate NY!!

  • 2 dislikes, well it takes all sorts!

  • bruce kertoo elämästä tuntuu samalta minä istun ja otan yhden askeleen ylös ja kaksi askelta taakse mutta olen kuullut bruce on amerikan iso pomo sillä n todella hyviä biittei mutta jaksaa vielä vanhanakin vetää keikkoi nykyäänkin joten jaksa vielä soittaa bruce

  • run away with me. X/

  • Im sitting in this bar tonight all im thinking im the same old story same old act,, One step up and two steps back....

  • Comment removed

  • okay, so in retrospect, maybe tunnel of love can be looked at as a historic disappointment. but in its own right, its one of his very finest works as a songwriter.

  • My husband and I have listened to Bruce since 1979, the year we got married and he has never failed us. We've had our troubles, and we've had our our good times and Bruce has kept us going. Thank you Bruce.

  • Who amongst us hasn't lived this song? Wow........

  • Closing on 25 years and Tunnel of Love is beautiful as ever.

  • @MrMcintosh62 great album

  • 13 years ago heard this for the first time.... still feels like new

  • They get no better than this

  • I don't think any other artist could ever take one of Bruce Springsteen's songs and even begin to do it justice. I am not against any artists, i believe in "to each their own." I simply believe that his songs are so unique along with his voice and the depth he puts in them that they would not sound right coming from the mouth of another artist.

  • This is when the Boss was at his introspective best...he is truly multi-faceted artist..

  • Beautiful damn song. Honest to the point of pain.

  • @touchandgod Absolutely right.

  • "Teaching both of us some hard lessons lately, but we ain't learning"

  • dare i say, this song feels spiritual to me.

  • Cool Man!!
