Tid Bit........two-valve and three-valve vertically mounted ... Kanstul bugles are used by the United States Naval Academy Drum & Bugle Corps, ... A set of custom two valve models were built for the US Marines Drum & Bugle Corps.
@rRainMain137......yo dude, they are not playing trumpets, they still use bugles, and this goes for everyone.......you young people are a trip....you guys need to study the history of Drum and Bugle Corps, go all the way back to 1970 for starters, you can do some of it on you tube, look up 27th Lancers 1976 and move up, you can find all the other great corps as well, Blue Devils, Madison, Santa Clara, Bridgemen, Kilties, Kingsmen, ect. Late 70's early 80's sat the stage for Drum Corp today.
I believe that the Corps plays on two valve G bugles (yes, I said TWO valve and G) so that may be one of the reasons that the sop solo didn't sit quite right.
As an alumni of the Commandant's Own ( Truman Crawford days), I'm naturally biased.
That said, I heard them play this song in the ball room at the Sheraton over the summer and they rocked the house. They were wearing civi's and relaxed for an appreciative house so they took care of business kind of the way Florida took care of Cinnci last night.
That said, Dallas / North Texas has a pretty darn good jazz scene so I could understand some dissapointment from some.
i actually must agree..ive seen many versions of malaguena performed...and ive actually heard better...sorry to say...but these guys are awesome and have total respect for them!!
Yep. I agree too. I marched in the '90's when Col. Crawford was the director. The new director is not a drum corps guy at heart. He is "band trained" and his arrangements reflect that, unfortunately. Fortunately, he is retiring soon. :)
