wow these American tap dancers are absolutely stunning! great job!!!! especially those whirl around toe steps at 3:26 WOOOOOOW brilliant and unbelievable :-)
I must've seen this act (recored on videotape) hundreds of time when I was a kid, just to see the guy jump off the wall. Now I just watched it for the first time in maybe 10 years, and there's so much more to this piece than a guy flipping off a wall... lol.
One thing I don't know is what kin of saxophone is the saxophonist playing, because soprano saxes are usually completely straight, without a bend before the bell? Is this just a specially made soprano sax? And also, does anybody know what piece he is playing? Is it just another composition by Bill Whelan, who composed the rest of the Riverdance music?
its just a curved soprano mate. Dunno bout the song but i came looking for it coz when i heard it on tv when it was on years ago i havent forgetten it since then. and finally found it on here!! lucky aye. anyway, hope that was helpful in some small way
ok, just to clear a few things up, the opening black dancers are dancing American jazz tap style, as you can see from their toe stands, loose upper body and jazz acompaniment. The other three dancers are dancing Irish step, led by Colin Dunne, who replaced Michael Flatley as principal dancer after Flatley became too arrogant. 'Riverdance - Live From New York City' (where this comes from) is phenominal, as are the dancers live, although they have unfortunately recently stopped performing live.
The dance is called Irish Step Dance or just Irish dance for short. Yes, it is from the riverdance show. It's called 'Riverdance: Live From New York City'
THe name of this particular piece was Trading Taps. The dancers, Irish and American were EXTRAORDINARY.....
