my ten pence worth ! dave mcleod an chris sharma are two very different climbers - 1 has millions of pounds most probably in sponsor ship , media publicity , etc etc an really doesn't risk his neck or his skills on dangerous run out hard climbing - the other puts up new hard trad routes , climbs all of the climbing disciplines , as-well as having to coach just to survive , they are both legends in their own right but as im British as-well as a trad fan id have to say daves my favourite climber!
yeah dave is the best trad climber and best all round climber, including mixed and ice. Sharma considered one of the best sport climbers, but others are catching.
I'm curious--has Paxti actually put up any 5.15 sport routes, or has he just climbed on developed routes? Not that I'm saying Sharma is the best, but he has found several of his own lines, developed them, then sent them. It's much easier to be the second person to send a route than the first one. The first one has no beta at all.
trad wise, no question. trotter is at trad the sharma. a bunch of people are. i think for a while sharma was at the top of the sport game, sending some one the first 5.15s, but there are definitely be2tter people now. if ondra is the guy I'm thinking of, the one who just sent 2 5.15s in the last six months is definitely a better sport and trad climber than sharma. But with Mcleods alpine skills I think its safe to say that he is the best allround climber in the world. period
Good point. Paxti has passed Sharma, but Sharma is older, though he just send 5.15b. I would throw Tommy Caldwell in the ring for best all-around climber. 5.15a sport (Flex Luther), dozens of freed lines on El Cap, Mixed routes down in S. America, boulders v13, has climbed El Cap and Half Dome in 24 hours. He's most likely the best endurance climber around.
I just watched Caldwell climb sport at horseshoe hell for 24 hours and he destroyed everyone and everything in his path. Also he's a pretty small guy. And he's really nice. Get's my vote.
Maybe I'm uninformed but Sharma seems to be putting up quite a few 5.15a's nowadays + Jumbo Love(5.15b). I don't follow climbing news too closely but any vids I see are usually second ascents of routes Sharma has put up, or routes where Ondra can mostly do it but fails on some burly cruxes. Not that he won't get there and surpass Sharma(he's much younger). Theres always going to be the next trend setter, we should just recognize these guys as people that have great vision during their peaks.
Great climber, but Iker Pou is definatly the best rock climber in the world. Check out his video on Demecia Senil (9a+)
