the differecne is action scripting. flash 8 uses action script 2 while cs3 uses asctionscript 3! so its a big difference

Well Flash is a program that you actually have to pay for unlike pivot which is free... sooo thats a bit of a downer. I actually got mine from a contest I won so I was lucky to get such a neat program as a gift. Buuut if you wanna get flash the easiest way would be to buy it online at their website I guess.
