ENGLISH TRANSLATION: Under aunt Cicca's bed there is a cat long and thin, who talks first goes to lick it. (It is used (but it is a bizzare and old way) to silence children).

  • @vinx91ct Thanks for the translation, I will tell mama and teach her the rest of the metaphor. She'll be thrilled.

  • ...grandparents in Sicilian. It brought back many memories for them and brought us very close.

  • ... Nanna's family came from Trabia so we also visited there. We ate at Il Pescatore restaurant right on the water. It was beautiful!

I've been back in '08 with my dad, sister and brother-in-law and in '10 with my dad and sister. We always visit Trabia, but we stay in Sambuca Di Sicilia, where I lived in '04. I too have some video of my grandparents speaking Sicilian, and some audio of my great grandfather telling Giufà stories. One of the greatest things for me was to be able to speak to my g

  • @trinakria1282 I've been there 4 times, once with 23 cousins and made a tour out of it. I'm glad you got to enjoy Dora, she lights up a room when she enters.

  • Awesome video. She reminds me of my Nanna so much. She just passed away this summer. I lived with them for about 5 years from about '03-'05. I was the first person in my family to back to Sicily since they emigrated. I stayed for two months in '04 and found relatives and learned Sicilian, though I also studied it for several years before going. Then I went back in '05 with my Nanna and Nannu, parents and two aunts to show them the island and where my grandparents' parents were born. In fact, my

  • Durazne, Discrimination, that was a response to beenohops comment.

You did a great job with the Sicilian spelling. I am impressed.

My relatives in Sicily rarely speak the dialect, but here in America that is what we grew up with. Glad to see it is still kept alive. Beddu

  • Why do u think that this is discrimination?? I'm Sicilian and I'm 24 and I usually speak in Sicilian with my family and my friends, it's not true that only old timers still speak it, we are all able to speak and understand it!

I can write all she said in the video:

Sutta o liettu ra zia cicca c'è na iatta sicca sicca

C'era un beddu putrisinu vinni a iatta e ci pisciò

U lupu perdi u pilu ma no u viziu

Cu sputa n'cielu n'facci ci torna

  • That's discrimination..

  • I'm 19 and I speak old Sicilian, yet I can't write it well. I got kicked out of a high school Italian class for speaking Sicilian.

  • @beenohopps

Sadly there is no ufficial gramman for sicilian or any other dialect. I am italian and I learned first dialect and then italian at school. No I speak english, spanish and I'm learning french right now...the more languages you know the easier to learn new...long story short get your ass back to the italian class and exploit the advantage u have

  • bella video guy.. ciao

  • Don't know of any kind of sicilian lessons, only the old timers still speak the dialect.

  • Are there any formal lessons that teach Sicilian? I know it is almost totally different from Italian.

  • very funny. iam sicilian too i understand wat she means. she reminds alot like mi nonna..
