  • Shaun Of The Dead.

  • I don't mean to be mean, but don't just go on video and play averagely and with out real commitment and then not bother to try and teach anything. As an exercise in showing off your skills, you failed and you 'can't be bothered' teaching anything. You seem like a nice lad, but I'd say get over your self a bit, get passionate about drumming and don't be afraid to say,' I don't know how to play it slow'.

  • ??????????????

  • your ghostnotes are to loud!!!!! You shoud not explain what you can t play

  • I'm quite proud of myself I was going to ask for nottion but seemed to get it quite quick don't know if this is a good sign aha, I heard that fills using linear style look and sound quite advanced too, no idea if this is right, cause I tried and they sound shiz aha, nice work anyways man, keep it up

  • @ExEurasian Most fills are linear to be honest. probably around 95%

To get started with linear fills, think of groups of 4, 6 and 8.

2 on hands and 2 on your foot, then 4 on hands and 2 on foot, then 6 on hands and 2 on foot.

Get those 3 linear fills up to speed and played cleanly and they should sound great.

    Cheers mate.

  • his bass-drum sounds orgasmic!

  • @JoeBologna1520 Thank you!

  • metronome

  • hi they are some nice beats do u actually have any tabs for any of them?

  • @willkebell Hi. I don't do drum tab, but i could write them out in proper drum notation for you if you like?

PM me your email addy, and i will email you the notation when i get the chance :D

  • i like all three of these there linear drum beats!!!!

  • @GregoryGraveyard That's really cool! Well i hope you enjoy playing them too...

    Thanks for watching :D

  • now larn to play that shit at like 200 bpm. that wouold make a sick DnB break.

  • one last tip.. make sure all your ghost notes ARE ghost notes. your beat will start to sound like a jumbled mess when you let the ghost notes become regular hits. these things will help your beats to actually have "feeling" if ya know what i mean. goodluck and PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!

  • tune your snare drum higher, it will sound much better. unless the audio isnt great on this vid lol. also use rim shots on the accents. I see a ton of drummers that never use rim shots, that shit pisses me off haha. your beats will sound much more dynamic when using rims shots on the accents.

  • @italiangookie119 Hi! Thanks for the comments, i have taken the info on board.

That was an old cheap Pearl snare which i got rid of about 3 years ago. I have a Black panther deep forest walnut snare now.

  • cool man!

me and my friend have done some drummin

    awesome huh?

  • you wearin swim trunks mate? If so thats pretty damn classy. cheers

  • @thesharkface22 Yep, well spotted! I'm all class lmao. Thanks for watching :D

  • @Menzoine

lmao. yeah i'm a fake and my drums are gay.

  • good job man

if u want to read up on the master of liner beats check out benny breb man

he will blow ur mind lol

    later dude

    drums are life!!!!!

  • Thanks for the nice comment.

I take it you mean Benny Greb? Yeah i have long been a fan of Benny, and have got his DVD that he has brought out, which i recommend to anyone.

    Thanks again.

  • sorry dude my keyboard mistake lol

yea man ive got it too

do u like gavin harisson hes one of my influences

    later

  • Yeah, i saw porcupine tree at Download festival a couple of years ago and Gavin was playing, and i was like WOAH!

So yeah, i like watching him on YouTube etc and i think his style is very original and entertaining.

    Cheers.

  • so how long u playin neways?

il post up one of my linear grooves shortly

wat rudiments do u use for fills?

  • I have been playing properly for about 4 years.

By that i mean about half an hour's practice about 5 days a week.

I don't use rudiments for fills usually, just groupings of 3, 4 ,5,6 etc and mix them up.

I'm thinking of putting a short video up actually of just doing fills.

Yeah cool, i look forward to seeing your video!

  • yea man

at the min im a bit obsessed with 5 stroke rolls lol

any way heres a linear groove its quite good ^

FRL FLR F L RL F LR FF

    high hat snare and kick

    but experiment with it like

il let u knw bout any others ive been workin on

    later dude

  • btw accent the 3rd snare or L

    sweet man

  • OK thanks for that!

It will be a tough one because of the two kicks at the end and the one at the beginning making a triplet.

Let me know when you post a video dude!

  • Lol, I'm gonna get ripped on so much for my sunny day "old man rags"

Yeah that was our allocated one day of sunshine a year : )

  • ....*trying not to laugh* you look like your ready to go to the beach here in florida. no no im just kidding. we know about hot days here old man!

  • Why are you wearing your swimsuit?

  • it was a hot day

  • The key to playing linear notes is Dynamics.

  • dude, u r off the chain!!!! awesome!!

u must be in a band or summin like that!!! if ur not then world war 3 is about to start, but the guns are chocolate!!SWEET!!

  • WOW! Thanks for the really nice compliment!

Nope i am not in a band, i have tried for ages but generally only get offers from men in their late 60's wanting me to play swing. Nothing wrong with that, but it's just not my bag.

    Thanks dude!

  • great job ! Thanks man greetings from Tennessee USA . Frank Beard is great at this stuff too. SOOOOOOOO "simple" but yet sooo good

  • Cheers man! I haven't heard of Frank Beard before, so i will check him out!

    Thanks for the recommendation :D

  • nice!! =]

your good , keep it up.. cool drum kit

  • Thank you very much! and i will do :)

  • Ok..I was and am playing linear beats and did not know it...I am self taught and can't read music to save my soul. I like the sound of your kick as well. Nice job.

  • HA HA! Thanks pal.

I used to be self taught too, and didn't know what linear beats used to be, but i used them still.

I would recommend a few lessons, which will sort you out on matters like these.

and yeah, my kick does sound good on here! i think i took all padding out of it... i may do it again.

  • Like the sound of the kick drum, what set up is your gear?

The last drum beat has good elements of the Songo. Cheers

  • Thanks for the comment :) and for the compliment on the kick drum.

If you go on my profile i did a drum kit tour, so you can get all the info from there.

And i suppose there is quite a similarity between the last beat and the songo, but the songo is also linear, so maybe that is why?

    Thanks again.

  • Wow, the last beat was cool. Keep up the good work

  • Thank you mate!

The last beat isn't my own though, it was from a book i had years ago :)

  • i've got that last beat you did transcribed from years ago.

  • i recorded that video hahahahahaha

  • that last 1 isnt even hard

  • Have i put that it is anywhere?

I'm glad that these are so easy for you.

Can you put some videos up so i can learn some new beats from you???

    Please?

  • Thanks a lot, man.

Haha, that first linear beat you showed.. I used it all the time without even realizing it was a linear beat. Thanks for the lesson.

  • Lol. most drummers don't know what linear beats are, and use them without even knowing!

I'm glad they helped you, and maybe soon you can do a video on some linear beats, and i can use them :-)

    Cheers dude!

  • WHITE COWBELL!!!!

  • wait, my teacher said linear had to be in a series?

    ie: b=bass h=hi-hat s=snare

    b-,hh,s-,h-,bb,h-,ss,hh:

  • As long as no two pieces of the kit hit hit the same time, it is linear.

Whatever the order, make sure nothing hits at the same time.

That is as simple as i can say.

  • this is great, thanks for the lesson! i was wondering if you can send me sheet music for this. :) it would be greatly appreciated

  • Yeah sure man.

As i said in the P.M. just send your email address.

Cheers for the kind words as well mate :)

  • hiya mate :) your video helped me alot, before i never even knew what a linear beat was, i'd just heard the term, but now i do and i'm trying to incorporate them into my own beats! I was wondering if i could be really cheeky and ask for the sheet music for these? the beats you played in this vid were brilliant imo, and i'd like to learn them if thats ok with you ;)

ps, im from england too :D

  • Lol. Of course man. i will send the notation to anyone.

It is proper notation though, not stupid drum tab.

Just PM me with your email and i will send it to you.

I'm really glad the video has helped you by the way, it is the reason why i do these videos : )

  • dude when i saw you for the first time,I thought you were Andols Herrick from Chimaira, xexe.anyaway, I've seen all your videos and they have really helped me improving.check the videos of my band and make commnents if you want.cheers!

  • LOL! well i have never been compared to Andols before lmao.

I wish i was as good as him!

I'm really glad my videos helped in some way.

    That's why i do them.

I will check your vids now. And thanks for the comment, it made my day ; p

  • something new for me to practice with. thx

  • no not the cow bell one the one before it u no lol

  • ok, cool! if u want to know the written music for it just PM me and i am more than happy to give it to you : )

  • its me again i now can put roles with it and it sounds awsome ans sorry it was the fourth one u did was kool its that complicated one

  • WOAH! lol. hold on...

the one with the cow bell or the one before?

If it is the cowbell one, it is actually from a book, so i can't take credit for it!

however i'm glad it helped you and i would love to see a video of you doing rolls on it man.

    Advancements are cool!

    -cheers!

  • dude that beat u did the second time that funk one was sooo sick i watche it over and over again now i can do it.. thanks alot ay

  • you are just an excuse to show off what you can do, you could have been bothered to slow it down so somebody can actually see what you do, i'm off to go bum uncle Tod and his linear beats,

  • If you look at my profile page, it says that if you PM me i will help.

People ask me how its done and i then send them a reply.

However it seems you are too stupid and arrogant to look.

Plus i do these videos in my spare time, and don't earn any money from them. so tell me buddy, why should i be bothered to take the time to write it down for Complete morons like you?

  • I think your 2nd and 3rd ones sounded the best. I think its that cowbell that messed the beat up.

  • they're a jazz trio, check em out.

  • hahaha yeaahh that last beat is awesome.... oh wait I'm pretty sure you stole that from drop trio, note for note.

This comment is not ment to discourage u from drumming, just careful what you call ur own.

  • i did put a note on here but it seems to of disappeared.

The last beat was from a book of latin styles and linear grooves.

I had learnt this beat when i was younger and simply forgot where from.

So just accidentally stolen from the book. i don't know who droptrio are? are they good?

  • I just started drumming and I must say

    That realy helpet:D

    tnx m8:D

  • No problem man. glad it was of use to you!

  • love it

  • glad you do. go and try a few! and have fun!

  • kool

  • your good

  • thanks ha ha.

  • o ye

    lol

it must have been deeply logded in my brain

    lol

i will see if i can get that beat now

  • message for all new viewers.

i found a printed sheet of music which had the last beat on it.

so i hadn't made it up, it was just from a piece i learnt years back :)

  • Wow, this video got me to subscribe!! :)

I'm very thankful, for I didn't know what a linear beat was before this video!

Again, great beats you showed ;)

  • dude u neeD a metronome :)

  • its just putting out ideas, i'm not doing a performance for a crowd or playing in a band. its just purely to give people ideas about linear beats.

  • I think he means that everything didn't lock in all the way. it was kinda shakey at times.

  • i know. god it was just to help people. if iwas doing a proper performance, i would have ear phones on with a click.

  • Ha Ha found ur videos (at last)

It took a lot of searching but i did it.

I shall have try some of those beats once ive done

    doing paradiddles with my feet.

Shall Give u a call about lessons.

    James
